It would indeed be a "HAPPY FATHERS DAY" if my little ones could come up with a Chicago Typewriter for me!

The Thompson is nice but it's pretty heavy and complicated. I'd rather have the old M3A1 Greasegun. Much lighter, easier to maintain and fun to shoot.

Gotta love the Tommy gun. It's a real classic piece of Americana.

I've never seen any indication the govt. issue M3's were 9mm. All the ones and literature I saw through the Army were in .45 only.

Correct.  The 9mm myth was a rumor started by europeans, mostly eastern block countries to slander the .45 ACP, and to claim that their european round was better.

Indoor gun range I shoot at rents out a full auto Thompson on "Machine Gun Night".   They rent out a bunch of submachine guns then, and it is a blast.  I went once and shot the Tommy gun, really cool.

Ive been wanting either a Mossin Nagant

Or a Kar-98K

For quite some time. I have a local collector willing to sell me either one for a pretty good price as long as I can get my parent's O.K. (which will NEVER happen :( )

Any idea as to the prices?

The thompson was only issued in 45acp... The 'Greaser" was issued in 45acp as well... But some conversions to (9mm Para) for the M2/3 were made... They consisted of barrel, bolt, main spring, and magazine... I think the idea was to drop them to resistance fighters in europe... the same way the brits did with the STEN... Don't know if any were ever used....

Serenity, go with the KAR. Ammo is easier to find and it's a better built rifle IMO.

Wrong, wrong and debatable.  The market has been flooded with 7.62x54r, while 8mm hasn't ever really flowed heavily.  While it is a fine rifle, it's tough to debate the ruggedness and pure simplicity of the Moisin Nagants.

Exactly. Ive got about 100+ 7.62x54r sitting in a desk right next to me. The ammo is there, and the price difference is obvious. $100 for the 'Nagant, $300+ for the Kar.

8mm ammo can be had for about the same price as the russian stuff if you look... it can be all had for about $70 for 800 rounds or so but at that price it is all corrosive and worthless your-0-peean primer (non reloadable)   nothing wrong with that... burn it up while supplies last.

I have shot both the thompson and the grease gun and liked em both.   they are night and day.

The russian ppsh is ok.

I'd rather have a Streetsweeper.   :D  Ammo is easy to make and can be found just about anywhere.

I pick up my 91/30 at lunch today :) I was really surprised how nice and balanced it felt for such an ugly rifle :)

Must be strong... must refrain on buying that xd-45.

As for the Thompson...

A real class 3 full auto would be neat if I could afford it (and didn't live in Ill.), the same for any subgun. However, I personally never had any desire for a semi-auto only version. I think I would be just as happy with a demilled wall hanger.

LMAO who hasnt heard of a street sweeper? Its a 12gauge shotgun/revolver. If I remember right it has a loadout of a dozen rounds.

12 12gauge rounds fired in rapid succession = streetsweeper.

Be careful about which Kar you are purchasing.  A real german WW2 K98 in nice condition can run you over 300 dollars.  But there are a lot of fakes out there, especially Mitchell's Mausers.  They take a turkish or eastern european K98 model and doll it up with german stuff and try to pass it off as a german weapon.

A nice K98 non german model is worth roughly 200 with all the accoutrements.

wonder if there is a mod to bolt one of those to a Honda Civic, would look awesome with spinners, purple leather seats, and an LCD aiming mechanism on the steering wheel

One of the posters of that video said that..:rofl i seriously dont think a Honda Civic could handle that, maybe a Chevy 3500 Silverado,or a Ford F350

That doesn't mean anything.  I can write up an authentication sheet stating that my balls have been to the moon.  That doesn't mean I have moon rocks.
