Title: Aces High on wide screen?

I am looking at an Acer, Samsung, or Viewsonic 22 inch screen. Anyone have any comments on how it looks on a wide screen? I had a squadie tell me he lost some of the lower dials in the cockpit when he went to the wide screen.

Other thoughts?

You won't achieve any wider viewing angle because the game is created at 5:4 and does not have a widescreen (giving to more view on the sides).  You lose vertical screen space because the game tries to maintain the 5:4 ratio w/o strechting the game out of proportion.

I use a widescreen and absolutely love it.  When playing other games etc or multitasking stuff for work etc it makes things a lot easier.  Krusty will tell you otherwise though ;)

Bought a 22" Acer month ago, using 1680 X 1050 resolution, lower cockpit can be viewed by pressing key pad 8, page down, down arrow to get the  view you want and f10 to save it. So any time you want to view the lower gauges just press key pad 8.

Yeah, this is what I've had to do as well.  BTW, hows the weather down in Delafield?

I also bought an Acer 22", and Love it. It hardly took any time at all to get used to having to 'look down' to see some of the lower instruments. I haven't had any complaints about in the three months I've been using it. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive on it too. I've had a 17" Acer for three years now and haven't had a complaint about it either.

There are two different Acer 22" lcd monitors. One is 6ms, and the other is 5ms. Make sure you get the 5ms monitor, or you might get movement problems, such as blurring. The links I provided are for the 5ms monitor.

Mwave has it for $244.84, not counting shipping. Should come to around $254.00 with shipping.

As amazing as 1ms difference sounds, LCD companies have been known to fudge their numbers a little bit.  If you read reviews some response times that are advertised at say 5ms or 6ms are actually double or triple this response time in reality.

I have a widescreen and use the 1680 x 1050 resolution and absolutely love it.   A portion of the lower cockpit is lost but you can page down and then save it, as stated by Goat1.  I have this saved view on my stick for easy access.

If you want a slight tactical advantage, turn that same widescreen monitor to portrait mode...

I think that would be tuff to do with my 58" screen.:D

Some (many?) VESA standard plasma/LCD wallmount kits can be rotated...  After that, it's just a software tweak.  It would look strange, but you'd be able to see your own nuts and backside without switching views :)
