This one was filmed probably right at the time when I was born, or even earlier:

Incredible. This guys are absolutely fantastic. 4 minutes and 9 seconds of 3-chord drive.
Thanks to Youtube for an opportunity to see such rare pearls of insanity.

This is the best rock n roll band ever. They had enough power to kill the Stones, Who, and Zepp together. Maybe Rob was a little bit non sexy for Pop standards, although his great voice and showmanship. Plus, they had brilliant songs but no hits. They should have carried on after been dropped by Atlantic. It was a matter of time for them to get the success they deserved. Instead, they became cult heroes par excellence, ahead of their time.
-
yuck, they could just throw the instruments and the singer in a cement mixer and get the same sound.
-
What amazed me is that they are probably the only great band who's first LP was a live recording.
And noone else could play songs called like "Rama lama fa fa fa" :D
The only band that beats them was Leaf Hound: they sold their instruments to buy booze.
-
My pocket MP3 player: Schoolboys and Soap Opera by the Kinks, Bloodbrothers and DFFD by the Dictators, several albums by Omega (all in native language, including what was called "200 years after the last War"), and a few songs from the Living End and a "Theme from imaginary Westen" by the Mountain. Good setup for an hour ride in Moscow subway with a WWII history book and a can of strong pepper beer.
I wonder why our "beloved Party and Government" (may them rot in peace) didn't make MC5 and other "three-chord revolutionaries" teenage icons in USSR. Printing Sonic Youth's "Daydream Nation" in 500,000 copies in 1988 didn't help :D
-
Minor Threat was the best punk band.
Ever.

Dont be cheap

The MC5 were great and did not have a "cement mixer" sound. Of course Ilive near the Motor City and appreciate them as musicians of extreme talent.
They are EASILY one of the Top 5 Most Underrated Bands in Rock and Roll History.
-
OK I am heading towards the subway station mumblin' "Rama lama fa fa fa".
Watch the news from Moscow, Russian mother****ing Federation! Kick out the jams! (whatever it means i don't know)
Mmmm I told myself to quit drinking at least for a couple of weeks... I need it badly.
I also need a vynil LP player, the last one I got (Grundig-Unitra) burnt down 10 years ago.
-
Kick out the jams = play the music LOUD.
-
Never even heard of them. I've decoded that I need to grow a fro though.

Translated:
"Our news is corrupt compared to the West. We need to abolish our antique communistic government by playing our music loud enough for revolution and a change towards capitalism so that we can have plenty of black market drugs freely available".

Ive never even heard of them and I have been listening to/involved in music since I was a toddler.
And to think, a Russian pointed them out to me! Wtg Boroda :)

Wow, you guys have never heard of MC5? They were very influential to a lot of late-70's/early-80's punk and metal bands. They weren't exactly radio-friendly nor did they write any hits except the underground classic "Kick Out The Jams". You can still see their influnence on a lot of newer bands, too, such as Wolfmother.
-
i saw the MC FIVE at an Ann Arbor Hash Bash in a natural bowl shaped piece of farmer's land off Geddes Road in the 60's... lot of people there. wow, what a great group, those guys were perfect for the times... i think Ted Nugent was there too.
-
The original link wouldnt play for me nor would several others.
I finally came across "Rambling rose"
You folks gotta be a much of masochists to lke that
I certainly hope their other stuff and their talent leverwas ALOT better then the one I just looked at. Cause that song absolutely sucked
And the only thing that sucked worse then the song itself
Was the way they sounded performing it
-
MC5 was a major trend setter. Can't believe some of you had never heard of them. I'm only 40 and remember them well.

Thanks, that's exactly what I usually do :)
Language problem: I can speak Russian so that anyone who emigrated before 1970 will understand all the words but never get a sense of what I am speaking. One word: ku! It's 1986. I mean the word "ku".
Such a shame that I can't provide any real Russian rock sample... Probably except this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjdgI3PBIwU
Nol' (Zero, Null) band was Fedor Chistyakov, accordion player, who went off the rocker in 1992 and spent several years in prison for attempting to kill his girlfriend. I was happy to see him playing at a "private" party for TV two weeks before he was locked up. He was beautufuly insane. Accordion solos 10min long, better then Keith Emerson or Jon Lord on Hammond.
I have to admit that ninety nine out of a hundred Russian rock bands are dull ****. Absolutely dull and absolutely ****ty. :(

Thank you. You are always welcome ;) Seriously, I am glad to understand that I did something good here.

You listen to trance like "Infected Mushroom"? Sorry, then we are from different social groups and my post was adressed to someone else, not You.
120bpm instead of a real live drive. I never could understand it. Beat as a drug - not my way. I prefer good old alcohol.

I listened to the one song I just mentioned. and that was it.
now that I have the time I will try the tune you just mentioned. But
If they dont sound any better then they did doing "Rambling Rose"
Then they sound horrid
Like nails down a blackboard horrid
Check out this one
Rambling Rose (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cg0qJ-ieRk&mode=related&search=)
And if you think this actually sounds good.
then I stand by my original statement
In playing it again to provide this link my 10 year old daughter came into the room and said "what the heck???" Is he singing like that intentionally or did someone just kick him in the privates?"
Instumentals were mediocre at best
LOL
Ok now Im off to see if I can find a link of the song you mentioned that will play for me. For some reason the one you provide wont play
-
Ok I just listened to two more
"Thunder Express" and "Kick out the Jams"
Not bad
Light years better then Rambling Rose
I can see how they could grow on you
Kinda like I am with Hot Tuna
