hey all,
as much as i don't like to talk about this kind of thing, i have lost a good friend. i got the phone call about 9:30EST monday, that he had passed away. this gentleman was a vietnam vet, and gave 20 years of his life as a volenteer fire fighter, and was very active in our squadron of the Civil Air Patrol. at the time of his illness, he was also employed by the NJ Office of Emergency Managment. cancer took this great man. it was a 7 or 8 month battle, and the doctors told him and his wife that it was beaten. after almost a year of not leaving his home except for trips to the hospital for the chemo and radiation treatments, he was able to come to meetings for a month or so. it seemed as if it snuck back up on him though.....woke up in uncontrollable pain, ambulance took him to the hospital where they did MRI, XRAYS, and whatever other tests they do. they found a tumor on his spine. that was only 2 weeks ago. right now, i don't know how we're supposed to believe in certian things when this man who spent his whole life doing nothing but serving his country, and the public, was taken in such a long drug out painful manner....he deserved better. at least he's in no pain now, and hopefully in a good place. he is survived by his wife, and his 14 year old son...both of whom we at hte squadron will try to help as best as we can.

very sorry to hear this john, it seems life is all a test of our faith, whatever that faith may be. Don't let this tragic event cause anymore trouble in the future than it has to, your own faith must not suffer to further the suffering of what is already greatly upsetting for those involved.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.
There is never a good answer to the question why. I don't know what, but if there is anything I can do to help out, i'm down here in south jersey also, so if there is anything I can help with let me know.

It always sad to hear good people like this have stuff like this happen to them.
Hopefully his family can deal with this well.

Sorry to hear of your loss John.About 2 years ago my Father got cancer.We found out he had it then 2 weeks later he was gone.Its a dreadful thing.I was 35 at the time.It must be very hard on his son at just 14.My condolences goes out to his family.

My condolences to you and his family. It is never easy nor is it fair. But he is in a good place and well taken care of. We all have to believe that. I am proud to be in the AH world and you all that posted here have shown your honor and caring. I am proud to fly with and against you all.

Lost my father to cancer last year "also a vietnam vet"
I suspect we will be loosing alot more of these good men to cancer.
Alot of bad agents used in that war.

pips.....i'm sorry for you bud.......thats about the same age i was when i lost my grandmom to it(she raised me and my brother), and it was still very hard for me.....and i still miss her.....
as for his son, i do agree with you that it's gotta be hard...but so far most of our squadron(civil air patrol) is pulling together for them....and a couple of the cadets have been going over there so he has support of friends his own age too......

i need to second this........ALL of you in this community are top notch!!!!!!! it's amazing how many of the players here care the way they do.....i too am proud to be able to fly with/against all of you in here!

Sorry for u bud :( but "deserved better" being with God is not a bad thing IMO .
Trust it worked out like it was suppose to in his life .

i understad that...by "deserved better" i kinda meant that i didn't think he really deserved all the suffering that he did before he was taken..........

why does it seem like the good deal with pain and agony, while the horribly bad evil people out there live seemingly free of any of this misery?
At any rate, I hope everyone remembers him and his contributions to this world. He is in his reward.
