A webmaster I know took some pictures at the Ft. Lauderdale air show. I figured I'd post one or two of them.

Really NICE! I bet he was one of the guys on the roof with a 6 ft lens attached to his camera.
-
Man the F-22 is fluff'n sick lookin isnt it? Amazing to see 60 some odd years of technology side by side like that..
-
that p51 guy is gonna get SOOOooooo many perks when he shoots down the Raptor:lol Didja notice? He hit his brakes and they flew right by!
-
The funny thing is.. if I could have any of the three in the first picture.. I'd take the Pony

You watch too much Top Gun.
PS: Isn't that a 352nd Skin?

look at the nose high trim on the jets so they can stay in formation with the pony.

Hey guys wat kind of damage ya think would happen to the F-22 if the P-51 had working .50cals and got behind em and fired away?
Considering new advancements in Jet Fabricating Materials, wat kind of damage would a snapshot do on a F-22?
(Its a "wat if" question that just came into mind after seeing both aicraft side by side)
Also Would the heat signature from the P-51's Merlin be enough for a Lock On?

To your first question. With all these new advancements in technology it makes them more vulnerable. In my job field small amounts of corrosion on a wire can put a jet out of commission. Let alone a .50cal creating a open in a few.

These photos were taken from a local airshow back in 2006. It was at the Willow Grove airbase, which is sadly closing :(

The raptor would be a multi-mullion dollar wreck, fluttering to the ground.
In a real 1v1 though, the pony pilot would be dead before he even knew he was in danger.

It depends on where the 50's hit. There have been a couple F15's that have had most of a wing taken off and still returned to land, the computer and body shape compensating for the lack of wing ( video on subject here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=LveSc8Lp0ZE ). I don't know of any instanaces of an F-22 having this much damage.
For the heat signature, yes, a P-51 puts out enough heat to lock on.
-
Strange how almost every picture of a F22 looks photoshopped.
-
BTW, for any 80s uberdorks who may not have noticed, Starscream in the new Transformers movie has been reincarnated as an F-22.
When you see the pilot hologram in the cockpit of a fighter jet and the scene of the F-22 transforming and landing in the city street, thats old whiny-voice himself in his new duds.

Screw that im taking the F-22.
Go cruising around 100ft at Mach 1, then go inverted and do loops and Immemens Split S's and probally get shot down by the Usa airforce Lol
-
that guy has a really expensive camera.
:O
-
The 51's heat signature is in the front and is nowhere near as big as the nozzles of a jet. That would be interesting to see if a AIM-9 would lock on. A sparrow would (radar guided).
-
the heat exchange unit (radiator) is directly under the pilot. it has an exhaust flap (cooling cowl) that when open produced measurable thrust according to edgar schmued who designed the system. there is considerable heat signature to the midpoint of the fuselage on that airframe.
