I thought that bird was supposed to be relegated to static display somewhere. I'm glad to hear she's still flying. I hope the trip goes better this time!

I remember seeing the documentary on this plane on the discovery channel I think it was. They basically showed from start to finish of how it was extracted from the ice and how they restored it, up to it's first flight after being restored.
Was a cool story to watch, glad it's still flying and not in some museum.

She's coming near to my place on Thursday. Might fly over me on friday :aok

So did I.
The doc was pretty well done and interesting. A lot of money , hard work and dedication went into that plane.
Beautiful bird.

Mr. Roy and Bob Cardin built that one to fly. Mr. Roy died nearly 2 years ago, so he'll never see her complete Bolero. The plan is to fly Bolero and then fly the air show circuit on a limited basis for a while. She's been flying air shows since she returned to the air a few years back, including OshKosh on a regular basis. She has her own air show on Labor Day, at least until last year. Mr Roy died right after the last Labor Day show. The Planes of Fame F6F-5 was lost right afterwards as well, it had been kept with Glacier Girl and over at Sevierville at the museum there. Steve Hinton really thrashes Glacier Girl at the shows, I've seen him cross the field at 350MPH wide open and go vertical till she nearly stalls. When he lands her after a show it takes forever for her to cool down.

Would anyone here happen to know their schedule, - flightplan?
Would love to be in the right spot and catch her on camera. And hear a P38 for the first time. :aok

You're nothing if not tenacious, Angus, thanks for the links!

I was golfing once when I heard an unusual sounding airplane, looked up and saw a P38 flying by. An amazing moment for me.
-
There was a B-17 circling over my house about 2 hours ago. Flew directly above my house on the final turn.

Very cool.
Anyone hear any news on the 109 recently found on the bottom of a lake? It was found in fair condition. Was supposed to be restored to flying condition again. I think it was JB73 that found the article.
-
Any news on the girl?

Y'all need to come to my place in October. The CAF practices from a small airport near bye. Great view of a good variety of war birds for hours at a time. One of a handful of places where you can still sit at the end of the runway and watch them come in.

Dang Revenuers.

Since Mr. Schoffner died, Glacier Girl has been sold twice. It is now owned by a man from Texas.
-
And where is she now?

This one was at the Muskegon Air Fair last year. Unfortunately I don't know the name. I didn't get into a very good position for this picture.

And it flew

(edit: full size pics of those two, plus some other planes that flew that day, are at http://webpages.charter.net/leighma/)

Latest news is that the flight is cancelled because of a mechanical problem.
(The escort is meant to carry on)
