Title: Proposed AVA Setup
Post by: Shifty on June 26, 2007, 07:10:59 AM
I'd like to propose the following setup. It's based LOOSELY on the operations in Burma in the winter/spring of 1944 using aircraft we have available in AHII.

Clash of Empires 1944 Burma.

Japan's last major offensive in mainland Asia. Imperial Japanese Army units thrust towards Assam in the Northwest. While Imperial Japanese Army Air Force pilots attacked airfields being used to fly missions across the hump. One attack against a British airbase code named "Broadway", the base was destroyed along with most of the RAF fighters based there.

By June 1944 with the town of Imphal close to surrender, elements of the 14th Army managed to break through the Japanese perimeter forcing a withdrawl of the Japanese units. Within days of the begining of the withdrawl, RAF Mosquito, Hurricane, Spitfire, and Thunderbolt units began a year long operation to destroy Japanese army units in Burma.

Map- China or CM's Choice.

Royal Air Force Aircraft

HurriIIc
SpitV
P-47D-25
Mossie

Imperial Japanese Army Air Force Aircraft

A6M5= Ki-43III sub
Ki-61
Ki-84
Ki-67

Ground units M-3 and M-8s for both sides.

Arena Settings CM's call.

Your timing is good..

We are currently planning out the next four months....

But I think the ki84 would be a little too much, considering what is in the allied plane line up..

ki84 vs spit5 vs p47d40 vs ki61 (http://www.gonzoville.com/ahcharts/index.php?p1=ki84&p2=p47d40&p3=spit5&p4=ki61)

Spit-9 may well be a better and more historical aircraft for the setup, than the SpitV. The Ki-84 may well look uber on paper, but will have to contend with woobiecanes .

Being this is a proposal, I leave it to the players, and staff if interested in flying it to propose additions or subtractions. I do seriously take in to account Larrys vote of no. If the majority of guys don't want to fly it, don't use it.

Thanks.

:)

Unfortunately I'm going to be AFK for at least another week.  We have stuff that I need to do around the household that are marginally more important than pushing a cartoon airplane around the skies.  Hopefully by next Monday I can log on and knock two weeks of rust off.

I'll check in to watch any purse fights though all

I believe this thread (http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=180318&perpage=25&highlight=backwater&pagenumber=4) says that the Spit VIII should be available in your proposed set up.  That would probably compare more favorably to the KI-84.

I don't think spitfires had manual transmissions the silly limeys couldn't handle so much of a workload such as clutches and shifties.  I think all spitfires were automatic.  I could be wrong, ask platano he knows all about spitfires.

The spit 5 and the KI84 are a good match. They have alot of the same characteristics.

This was a RAF/IJAAF battle. No RN, or IJN. The only reason I had the Zeke was for a Ki-43 replacement. The Spit VIII would be a more correct choice than the Spit V, or Spit IX.

Gotta use the Spitfire VIII for that one Shifty.  Vs woulda been gone by that point from the front lines I believe.

Plus the VIIIs have the skins to go with em for the PTO

Spit VIII and Ki 84 are a proper match up

Spit VIII royally owns the Ki 84 @ climb.

But there's a catch...

- Spit8 has max wep limit of 5 minutes, after that you wait for 10 mins to cool down so it can be used again
- Spit VIII is a short range fighter

- Ki-84 has max wep (or overboost) for 70 seconds (is that right?), after that you wait for 30 secs to cool down so it can be used again.
- Ki 84 was designed as a long range fighter.  Range is similar to that of P-51 (is that right?)

Shifty, I already had Rain of Fire in the can, and I've been out of town, so I ran that this week.  If someone doesn't do it before then, I'll run your setup the next time I'm up.

Yeah, one of the main points of putting the Spit VIII in the Spit lineup was for far east ops.  No Spit IX or XVI ever served in the far east.  Spits V, VIII and XIV did though.  XIVs in 1945 only.

dedalos,

No Spit Vs.  They were withdrawn from frontline service by that time.  Spit VIIIs instead.

They're getting soft, it's this whole Iraq thing I think.  He's home now, beat me in pool already, has lots of stories, life is good for at least the next couple of days.  Will pass your greetings along, may even get him online this weekend.
