Title: Who are the most memorable squads?
Post by: Killjoy2 on June 26, 2007, 11:31:17 AM
I've been playing since WB 1.xx (who remembers anymore).

I really miss some of the old squads.  It seems they just fade away like old soldiers.

The Flying Pigs of WB's
Some of the best pilots and programmers in the business.

The FDB's of AH
Some of the vilest, most pathetic people you'd want to meet.  Good fun also.

Who are some of your favorites?

Being new to AH I dont have one for this game. However I flew AW waaaaaay back in the early 90's to it's demise. there were two squads I recall.

RTC  Rosarios Traveling Circus

Mostly because of a few of the pilots that flew with them were really cool players and I winged with them many many times over the years. They were always respectful but very skilled flyers.

FI   Fighters Incorporated

Mostly because I flew with VF63 Hellcats and FI would join us on strike mission and bailed us out of many close calls over the  years. I see a squad in AHII now called Fighters Incorporated but I dont know if they are the same one. I see ROBO cpid but he has not answered any of my PM's so I figure it is a different player using his cpid.

Great players to fly with all

I remember a couple from the AW days just because they had such fitting names; The Nomads changed countries almost every camp and The Landscapers were a buff squad.

Of course the one I remember most was my own, The Red Barons.  All our names started with ^.

I don't know..... lets see, there were some great ones....  was Pak, JBKID, Mule, some other guy who brought the squad to AH, then a few other great ones like Tzr, and Mugz...... can't remember that other jackarse in the middle, most unrememberable dude of the bunch....... hhhmmmmmmmm

Kraits had that great program to change "skins" almost on the fly in AW, and AK's made one of the best maps ever in AH .

Slapshot has named a few squads that have been familiar for a long time. I myself used to be XO in  Grims's   USMC (which has been renamed to Grim's Reapers).  I have just returned to AH and am back in the squad now. A fair amount of the folks in the squad who flew back in the old AW days, are still in the squad, though, a few do not fly as much now. AH is not what it used to be.
I remember the professionalism of the pilots back in AW days and early AH days. We used to have more mature and professional pilots back then.
From what I have been hearing, it seems AH2 is starting to be geared to a more younger crowd (15 to 18 years old).
I really hope this community can change back to what it used to be.

Nomads changed countries just about every other day and more often then not were mixed in to all three killing each other.

Lots of folks didn't like that attitude then or now :)

AKs, back in the early AH1 days I flew with Nimitz (great guy), but I don't know how many of the current AKs were around back then. I still think of them as a "senior" squad (i.e. not old farts, but a squad with roots)

Pigstompers, I remember flying against them in the early 90's in Red Baron 1
The Airheads, my old squadron from the RB1 days... some still fly now, WHELS for one.  Anyone from RB1 remembers us.

Nomads from Airwarrior... I hated/loved flying against those +Guys+

The Ol' ones from AW

USMC from AW, WB, AH1&2 - I was a member of this squad and continue flying with Grim now in the Grims Reapers squad.

367th, fine group of enemy pilots... They have a lot in common with us.

AKs, always a good fight

JBs good friends or foes depending on which side theyre on this week.

The damned, a damned good group.

There are other good squads out there, some are just too new for me to say they are memorable YET... we'll see how it goes.

I know for a fact that the above were premier base taking squads. They could disect a field in seconds and effect a capture within minutes without trashing the every object in sight.

Ok then I must put the attention towards my own squad :) Thougt we would get categorized as "toolshedders", and indeed we use every tool that is at our disposition, from the PT boat to the lancaster. We prefer working into the shadows of Euro shift.

Get asked from time to time on the where abouts of nimitz, curly and others from some old vets.  A few years ago, some of the guys were a little burnt out on many years of flying sims (Red baron, IL2, and AH) and decided to move into a different venue of World of Warcraft.

Many still active over in that area still.  We still keep in touch seeing how each AK squad is still under an over all brigade type system.

Just updating for those "old" guys that still ask, and have heard that when and if Combat Tour ever comes out that alot will be coming back to the airborne crew.

Only problem is that most of us are "old farts" and starting to wonder if some of us will last long enough ;)  (j/k)

I can send the main brigade site with the WOW roster containing their email addy's if anyone wants it.

Thanks Slapshot... I flew for the CAF for many years and then got stationed overseas and lost touch with flying for about 2 years.  Finally got up and going again in late '03 and ended up with the AK's.  SOme CAF are still around but alot are in that transistion phase.

DFA was active in AW (thanks for the mention Sundownr) and we just noted our 9 year anniversary this month.
It has been a while since AW (and quite a few tumblers of scotch) but I do remember:
Sealed Fate - WolfX was CO I think and they were a heck of a bomber squad,
DE’OL’ONZ of Air Warrior - had some fellas that flew the hell outta that 190A8,
=Minutemen= who were lead by =EZR= who was one heck of a nice guy,
=416 Lynx= Tactical Fighter who had Manx as the CO - they kicked our butts on occasion ;) ,
and of course the BoPs!
I'll never forget Doody - I believe he started Most Wanted and also Mr. Personality... Ruaml!

I used to get a kick out of "The Knights Who Say NI!" in WB.

Get a bunch of them loggging in at about the same time and the buffer would be an endless string of "NI! NI!" for 5 minutes.

The old 352nd and 475th (Now 432nd/475th in here) from WB were scary for a looftwaffle like myself too.

This is going back a decade or so, but the Dweebs of Death from Warbirds is one squad that is unforgettable.  With a motto of "Death before dishonor, often just moment before" and their signature beanies, they rued the skies over the lands of the purple, green, red and gold.

No, that wasn't a typo.

And their web site is still up.

Played golf with some of the "Knights Who Say Ni"and "the Night Stalkers" in Dayton last year at the WB Con, great bunch of guys.
The old 303 Polish from WB was another great squad, disbanded now but I was still getting greetings from ex-members when I upped. Didn't matter if they were JG 51, 416 RCAF or any of the other squads they ended up joining. What about the 31st FG and the 352nd.
I've flown with Eagle Sqdn WW2OL and IL2,  and Dead Sticks in DOA, the 417 RCAF in the S3s in WB since '98.

Doesn't  matter where you go you'll find the same people, no matter what squad they belong to, with the same passion to work as a team.

Greetings,

Once a long time ago, I was in a squad called SOPS in AWII both beta and pay (gamestorm) - my cpid at the time was pnzr.  The squad had a pilot called Oman who liked the C47.  Can't remember the rest of the clan- okay, it was like 98ish!  When I came back from Korea there were a few still flying, but with the death of AW, they seem to go poof and were gone.

No, it's always been the 479th Riddle's Raiders since it was created.  However, I can see why some maybe confused as REEMO at one time was our CO and some did incorrectly assume that we were called REEMO's Raiders when in reality, the 479th stuck to the correct historical name of our real life counter parts.

Wow, jogging some old memories in this thread! Doody and PK1 started up Most Wanted and we still play here in AH. Doody has played some since AW died but mainly under a few shades names in here.
So many memorable squads from from back then it's hard to do them all justice.

One of my favorite people to fly with from back then (besides you PK ;) ) was Airhead when I was in Airwolves with him.

The smack talk game was about more than ho, tard, noob, picker.....ect. back then.

Not sure on the cops bunch, but when I started in AW in 96 the "name" squads then were the Muskies, Shills, Damned, Brewster Buffs, Skulls, JG54, JG27, Blacksheep, Dover Dawgs etc.

I helped form the Nomads in October 96 and the 479th was about then too.  The Specialists were flying then as were the Knights who say Ni!

Because on AOL you could have multiple screen names, the Nomads originally was a Shades squad with guys from all countries and different squads.  It was hush hush for a long time before many of us finally made it our primary squad.

When the arenas multiplied in AW there were lots of other squads that set up shop in those places that I didn't get to know.

I don't know that I paid as much attention to what squads were what when I started flying AH.

Hey Guppy,  I started in AW in '96 too.  Specifically June of '96 through AOL.  I was an AZ (^Crsh).  Where you at in MN?... Minnetonka here.

Ah, yes, the good old AOL days.

The Knights Who Say Ni! are still around in one form or another after coming over to AH for awhile.  They're now a reasonably successful guild in World of Warcraft on the Uldum server (including old hands like Honch, Yams, Wulfi, and me).

Geez, buncha kids responding...:)

The Fubars (AW & AH)

The laughs I had with the Fubars kept me in the game long after it became boring. Probably not more than 5 or 6 people that read these boards remember them from AW. I still get a whistful smile thinking about the fun (ever wonder where the sheep stuff came from?). :)

Gee...

So many known names...Great fights in WB, those were the days...We were so many at 249 RAF that we had to create 601 RAF. We formed a Wing, Tangmere Wing, with the 312, 612 and 56...I think we reached 100 in total at one point...

I remember vividly the Scanian Griffins, our WB nemesis, and JG27. And, of course, all the others before mentioned.

I can't remember exactly when I started in WB, I believe it was in 1997, and 249 already existed for a couple of years.

Never left the squadron, not even for one day. I even kept my callsign from WB...Some of our founders still fly, even that only ocasionally.

Spent 3 joysticks in 10 years.

That's all folks!   all,

Sparow

Birs of Prey were started in AW classic (circa 1994) on AOL by Tiger and Dragon...they started as Knights of Justice (KoJ) and then became BoPs...back then we flew in wings and used the BOP (wing#)(flight position) designation so my CPID then was Bop2d....

We flew only in AWC RRE4 as BZ and the squads i remember fighting were the EFW, Nazgul and most importantly the =ironeagles=...man what great fights we had back then....also there was an annoying 190 pilot named HAJO (named after hans joachim) who eventually joined BoPs but i cant remember the name of the squad he flew with then...i want to say Vati was the leader and Bazi flew back then too...but memories fade..

i remember going to other arenas back then to find fights with the nomads because i liked the 38 the most and wanted to test myself...there was a good 38 pilot named vampire....

I started AW when it was free on AOL (December 94) on my first day of internet in the household.  We had a shiny new Dell computer and one of the first versions of AOL that it came with.  It took me all of 5 minutes to click on "Games" and see a P-51 Mustang and big red letters spelling out Air Warrior

I joined the 444th Air Mafia shortly after bagging my first kill, LPN, taking off from an AZ base.  I of course was an AZ player and was quickly educated on why it was a bad idea to shoot the blue players if I was one.  *PAK* was the CO then and I flew with them including MugZ, PYRO, LPN, MDJOE and others until joining the ~U.S.M.C.~

Our rivalry with the MAWs was legendary and hands down the most fun I've ever had playing flight sims.

I was the exception rather than the rule back then as one of the youngest players.  I signed up in December of '94 at the tender age of 11 and have been hooked ever since.  I received $10/month allowance back then so I was able to afford my Gamestorm account when it shifted there.  When it went to $15 I negotiated a raise in allowance and continued.

Played on through EA and into AH since the demise of AW in 2001.  I signed up springtime of '02 for AH after not being happy with Warbirds and WWIIOL.

Since then the game has evolved, the community has developed and I have to say I long for the good old days when Bingo Fuel and Winchester calls were honored.  z12345 flew the goons out of the mainlands, you could blow up Spitfire factories and one map was good enough for each arena.

I'm proud to have been in the ~U.S.M.C.~ squadron who lives on today as "Grim's Reapers" still flying for, you guessed it...Grim.

I will miss fighting the MAWs.  I enjoyed fighting against xbrit in his F6F.  40MAW could make a P-51 dance and my voice was more squeaky than it is now.  I grew up with this game and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

December 7th.  Remember Pearl Harbor and remember Air Warrior.

Means a lot that people still remember Shillelagh. I was blown away when I came across AW3 in Electronics Boutique around 10 years ago. Was further blown away when Hornet said that little squad I started and promptly left was still kicking, and kicking quite mightily at the time.

The ones I remember most are the Musketeers (who didn't want that --)--HANDLE---- ?), 13th TAS (Mostly thanks to Doom that I remember them), ARM, PigStompers, EFW-SOG, and Turkey Hams (just for the name!). The Damned are a given (Snowman taught me 60% of what I know).

And I'll never forget the Rat Patrol, my first AW squad when we had numbers as our main IDs in AW DOS... I was 2702 at the time. Pops and his kids and a few chums made my entry to the game so much fun. Got me up early on weekends, too with like 7am squad times on Saturdays. To this day I still get up that early on weekends and people think I'm crazy.

I joined the CAF in AW back before the http://WWW.  It was a DOS game.  You started the game, then connected by (telnet) dialup through Delphi, GEne, Chris(?), or Compuserve to the server. I think it only cost like 3-4 dollars an hour with the game costs, plus connection costs :)

AW Classic was the DOS game converted over to windows.  This was done to get AW on AOL.  Most of the kids refer to AW on AOL as AW1 :)  Several of the CAF started a squad on AOL.  We decided not to have two CAF squads on the old server and on AOL.  Sturmer, Soup, Crash..  started the JG27.

After that, Kesmai joined News Corp and started GameStorm.

Get a bunch of them loggging in at about the same time and the buffer would be an endless string of "NI! NI!" for 5 minutes.

AOL did not start advertising Air Warrior until the 3rd Quarter of 95'  and then shortly there after it was opened  up for "The Land of the 1,000 dweebs" ( <---- did I get that right? )

Crisis / Genie  was the big cahuna and winter of 95 had the AW  Winter of 95 Lecture Series......

er um, got to mention our modem speeds here, I had 900/1200/2400  I  remember thinking the 4800 baud rate modem I got was kickarse.......

when AW went live on AOL early part of 96, you paid $2.00 an hour of play for the game, and it was called  AW4W  ( Air Warrior for Windows ) originally then became AW1 then after AW3 came out they reloaded it calling it AW Classic.....

AW2 was short lived, I do not even think it went open, I remember flying AW4W and testing AW II  on Gamestorm when Gamestorm came online...

you only saw people like Brooke, Boozr, Subby, Mute, Dragon ( Dragn   of the muskies ), Tiff+, DD, Chick and most old time players from DOS days playing on AW II.....then BIG WEEK came along and AW III was opened up to the masses......then  both people from AOL and from Gamestorm came together right near end of AW III and Gamestorm when it went to AW Millinium version and EA came on the seen....

most knows the rest......

most other grizzled vets can fill in the details I left out......

sorry for the repost of some of this stuff: have added some things......( I was in middle of editing other post, and my time ran out dang it all )

before AOL, some bills were 700/800/900 to 1200 a month combined for gameplay and internet connect fee...........

some bills for AOL  AW gameplay still easily hit 700/800/900 dollars until it went to one price  for as much as you wanted in a month......

when AW went live on AOL early part of 96, you paid $2.00 an hour of play for the game, and it was called  AW4W  ( Air Warrior for Windows ) originally then became AW1 then after AW3 came out they reloaded it calling it AW Classic.....

AW2 was short lived, I do not even think it went open, I remember flying AW4W and testing AW II  on Gamestorm when Gamestorm came online...

you only saw people like Brooke, Boozr, Subby, Mute, Rapier, Snowman, Dragn of the muskies, Tiff+, DD, Chick, Mayhem, Mage, Dose, Glint, culero, Merch, Moss, Mir+, WrW and most old time players from DOS days playing on AW II.....then BIG WEEK came along and AW III was opened up to the masses......then  both people from AOL and from Gamestorm came together right near end of AW III and Gamestorm when it went to AW Millinium version and EA came on the seen....

most knows the rest......

most other grizzled vets can fill in the details I left out......

edit: btw when I made my 1st post here, I thought the thread starter was asking about Aces High Squads ( I only listed some squads that had been around along time before AH but are still in AH and was here in AH's beginning...I know I did not get them all, and most of the squads I listed mainly flew FR, I do not know that many RR squads, even though they # of RR squads I am sure grossly out weighs the # of FR squads from back then )

before AWIII  , you would be doing good to get 20 people in the FR Arena at the same time......RR arenas had 2 ( ETO/PTO), then they had 2 of each , then they had 3 of each while FR arena had either ETO or PTO, and it switched monthly, until  they finally gave FR 1 of each......then for BIGWEEK the BIG PAC map came and both FR and RR had the BIGPAC, but RR still had more arenas, and then and then and then.............. .....

anyways. Thank God for  hitech & Pyro and Aces High......... their would be alot of lost souls out there if it wasn't for HTC......

my 1st flight in Aces High beta, 1999 Nomde and hitech and Brooke was telling me how to take off.I remember you walked from the tower to the hangar to pick your P51D, then you had to taxi to the runway....I got up in the air and tryed to fly in formation like with hitech and some other character whos name fades me at the moment,...I got lost on some terrain that had these DEEP DEEP valleys and it was wide open spaces....... I remember Nomde trying to direct me toward the AH BBS boards  while I was ingame, the text scrolled so fast I never got it all wrote down LOL....it was fun to walk around back then from the tower to the OClub to the Map room to the Hangar and stuff........sometimes wish they still had that in the game..........

handle was TequilaC , until The Damned moved to Aces High in mass then I switched back to my usual TC ( from AW & WB & wwiionline) * the Damned still play other games to this day, Everquest/Everquest II, Diablo, WOW, Ashrons Call?, America's Army,  Tagretware's TK & TR, WarBirds, wwiionline, IL2 forgotten battles,Fighter Ace and a lot of us are always checking out and testing new games that come online.......

Augey, JD, Ptero,  GMan, Lugs, Wind and others are still around but not really active in Aces High..our members they show on the Roster for Aces high is just about 1.3rd of all Damned total at my last recollection we were near 300....

in past years of  the 21st century we did gracefully lose 2 of our very respected teammates  Buzzard and KGann...........

it still hits hard and even upsets me to see some other person flying Buzzards call sign in the game..........sometimes I wish HTC would lock and reserve certian game ID's  to never be used again...........this is probably to much to ask for though..........

dang what a long rant, my apologies for wastin internet bandwidth........just got on a roll........

I played in AWII but it was pretty short lived.  They really lost a lot of people among all the switching from AOL (AW) to Gamestorm (AWII) to whomever hosted AWIII.

My squad was over 60 on AOL (RR Europe) and got smaller and smaller with every transition as more and more dropped out.

But anyway TC, AWII was open.

Especially that redneck hick Hblair.   :t

But nobody could suck quite as much as the FDBs did.  I remember all those nights of getting the vulch on.  Those were the days.

I flew with The Black Roses on Gamestorm until the day AW died. Rippe was our CO and Dart the XO. Had a lot of good wingmen HyFly, Cougar, Eagle (who's supposed to be here somewhere), BullDog, Benjammin and a bunch of others who's names escape me. My CPID was =JAG=.

They're ugly (Milenko), they smell funny (Pongo - though being a Canuck, he couldn't really help it), and they all cheat (especially Hblair).  Hblair was definitely the worst, as he would never fight the FDBs with even odds.  I don't think he'd ever let more than four of us dogfight with him at once before killing us all.  I'm certain that had we ever been able to take him on 10 to 1 we'd have kicked is arse.

Hehe, got to digging through some old floppys and found 1 labeled "AW3 Last Days".

One of the films on the disk is the final fly-by and festivities including a massive group kill macro that scrolled and scrolled. :rofl

I may see if I can get the old AW front end up, view and capture the video and port it to YouTube for grins.

That was Big-T's bunch...

JG26 was originally an RR#2 squad started by Raid. biggest "Adversary" was Lynx's bunch (416??). Also had the 82nd eliminators (VET). ZZ3 and others. When JG26 broke up many of us (STICK, YES, PILES, LAGHEAD to name a few) joined with a squad coming from "bigpac" to form 327th steel talons. I left the RR world to go FR and eventually most of the top RR sticks/squads did as well. I left AW in 99 (after the con, moss clued me in to AH there) and eventually of course most of AW followed....

Of course that will forever remain an untestable hypothesis, because anytime there are more than 2-6 FDBs in the same sector (the exact number depends on K, the effective beer multiplication factor) you reach critical bastard mass, resulting in an uncontrollable squad fragging chain reaction.

***at edit***

Looking on the net AW on genie was $3 in late 93, AW was on AOL before Win95 came out. I started briefly in the $3 timeframe and was there almost from day one on AOL. I vaguely remember some type of premium but it wasnt anywhere near the $3/hr.

Yes, there was a premium. I have a better 'mark' too look back on (was getting divorced during the move to AOL/Compuserve). I was Kesmai's head trainer from '93 until just before closing. I got the word to move to AOL/Compuserve at the '95 convention. The expansion of the product (free play and Gamestorm) were announced to employees at the '96 convention. Btw, '93 was when AW was accessable via Cris.com It was the 2nd coming of the "10,000 Dweebs" (the 1st coming was the release of Svga AW :D).

You are 100% correct.

In early 1995 AW was in closed beta on AOL.
In mid 1995 AW was in open Beta and the Brewster Buffalos were formed.
In 1996 AW went public at an hourly premium. (edit: $2.00/hr)
I think in 1997 it went to Gamestorm.

I was involved with the closed Beta as "Eagle" when it went open I lost that name and NHawk (Night Hawk) was born.

(Edit: A side note... As the forum leader of Gamestorm's Furball discussion group, Ken "Yoj" Williams was probably the most visible of the Brewster Buffalos.)

Don't forget Homer :)  He was with the Skulls.  That was my first squad in 96 prior to forming the Nomads.  Mav was the CO then.  Homer, Cakes, Trap, Shiva etc.  They kind of splintered when some went to FR and many of us newbie types weren't ready for it.

Can't forget Subbie either.

As for the AOL days, the boards were part of the fun.  Great fun for the Nomads to keep Fidel and Homer busy as moderators :)

There was another moderator I remember too.  DaLemming :)

I melted more that one credit card in those days. The highest bill I had was somewhere in the $400 range, but I had to pay $13/hr because GEnie was $6/hr and I had to call LD which was $7/hr. I dont have much (any) sympathy for folks who whine about "I pay my $16 I want this or that". I used to pay each hour what we pay for a whole month for AH.

This is the Good Old Days!  The fun is still there, just different.

Back in the days of pay by the hour, I limited my flying to an hour for squad night, and an hour on the weekend.  This ended up being around $30 a month.  But back then, I filmed every flight, reviewed each flight and kept a log of every flight.  Since I couldn't afford flying all the time, I spent the time reviewing what I did, and discussing it on the message boards.

Today you can just keep playing untill your eyes bug out :)  I think my old habbits are one of the reasons I still fly.  I limit my time on-line, and review films.  But I do it so I will not get burnt out and I can enjoy the game for a long time to come.

I found my old log files, man it was fun reading these again :)

Gunner...

I know what you mean. I was limited to $75 per month. So, I did plane art and a hardcopy newsletter (Inspired by the Fubar newsletter). Heck, for me, the downfall of AW started when they dropped the fee from $6 per to $3. Flat rate made it even worse. There in lies the real problem with the 'community'. Back in the day, it was expense (there in exclusive) and because of the expense...people found other game related things to do. Many of those things enhanced the game for everyone.

Today, its pay your $15 per and spend your spare time pissing 'n' moaning about things like maps. Oh well, I guess that is progress. :D

I've thought that for a long time NB but I was always afraid to say it out loud. Back then I think the only "squeaker" we had was Shadow Demon, and he was well behaved other than asking for the Me163 all the time.

TC you mention  sassy and Bama.

Its a longshot but they are both in FA.  If they are the same people Bama has been part of the Banzai squadron since FA2.5 or earlier.  I shot him down in MKOTS only last tuesday.

Sassy is still about the old mare I was in the same squad as her called TEA (The Empire Aces) circa 2001-02  now she has traitored and in some JG luft squad.

You obviously weren't at the '92 con. That kid was a parent's worst nightmare. He spent the weekend ordering his father around like a servant and whining.

Yep, it was great being an 249th member, i must say we were an bunch of very skilled players :) , i remember the Tamgmere wing too hehe. As for Scanian Griffins, i remember -rudu- (rubber duck?) and 2b2b i think from that squad.

I have to make an shoutout to the 900th Bloody Jaguars from Warbirds also, was my first squad i joined. And there were some really cool dudes there.

DE'OL'ONZ
Snakes
479th
SOGz/Pigstompers
The original Widow Makers (the -> guys)
Gravediggers
4 Wing
-=GhostRiders=-
56th
BoPs
NEV's squad (don't remember what RCAF it was)
Navy Seals
81st
38 Special Eds :)
MAWs

Eliminators
Steel Talons
Flying Tigers
-=Most Wanted=- which was originally started by DOODY, VRM, and myself in summer '98.
Sealed Fate
DFA
Honestly there's too many to remember from AW lol

Out of all of those, I'm sure anyone who has played AW, has been in one of those squads at one point in time or another. And out of those squads from AW, with the exception of a few, are still together in one way shape or form.
And they all for the most part, were extremely good in their day. A lot of squads, like a lot of members in -=MW=- that are still together from AW, isn't actually here for the game anymore. They're here because of the people who has been a small part of their life for X amount of years, whether they're in the same squad or even on the same country, it's nice to see people and continue to play this game with those who you've known for so many years.

So it was talking about squads folks remember.

There are a lot of old AW types here.

We talked about those squads.

Don't recall anyone saying it was AW best of.

Feeling a tad bit of an inferiority complex?

Lighten up a bit. We're just talking and lots of us share that part of the online flight sim history.

Well , I was perhaps a bit harsh.

I tried to point something I noted since the AW influx ,when I can't disagree with old geezer sharing souvenir (*) it always end the same for me AW vets take precedence over AH vets.

Look at golfer comment about Bingo and Winchester and my answer, before the massive arrival of AW veteran a tradition existed (or was starting) in AH ,all was stopped when the AW vet came, substituting your traditions to our (in game and in forum) something changed but "c'est la vie".

It's this appropriation I'm criticizing ,not that I'm against you or any AW veteran.

Btw you will be allways AH newbies ;) ,as  I** recognize the vet. status to AH beta1 player only (the ones who took the time to lean me how to die gracefully:D)

* don't take it bad I'm a kind of old geezer too :D

I found SKT. He's playing EVE Online now. I'll try and point him to this thread Doc and let him know you're looking for him if you like.

Good to see 4 Wing and 416 Lynx making the old AW cuts. We still exist, however not here anymore (well...not right now). Good memories of Airwarrior, however I must say...Aces High kicks it's arse.

Nomads were the original +Guys.

There was a bunch that later used +Guy+ and eventually some that used the single + in front.

Caused a bit of confusion when names started showing up that we didn't recognize :)

Krusty,
I flew with Nim, he's our old squad's CO's son (Curly) and he was going to law school. He has since graduated, gotten married I believe and now lives in Washington DC. He and most of the old squad went over to play WOW a couple of years ago. I miss a lot of the old guys, AKCurly, AKIron, AKNimitz, AKOwl, the list goes on, all of them are playing WOW now I think.  But the new batch of AK's are just as fair and honest and have resumed  the old tradition of changing countries each month, which gives us an opportunity to get aquainted with and make friends with almost everyone. By the way, a squad I haven't seen mentioned is the 327th, I flew with them in AW1,2 & 3 and now they are here in AH. They are a great bunch of guys and many including Piles have been flying on line longer than I can remember.

Quite true. This genre began with Kelton and crew and all roads lead back to those roots. That's not a bad thing though. One history doesn't supplant another, rather they're all part of the same history. From AW onwards these folks have made some pretty important contributions to online gaming, as have the squads and players that supported them along the way.
