Commercial Aviation may make a come back, but it will never return to it's glory days, mostly because the new generation of pilots.

my mother and step father are mechanics for AA, so i could care less about the glory days i just hope for some stability.
-
Well unfortunately when you have an entire work force willing to do jobs for far less than what they deserve, its going to be hard to find stability in this industry again.

Within 20 years, all first tier airlines will be piloted by automation with a single union-mandated observer in the cockpit, and he will be unable to override the flight automation without ground input for security reasons.
-
Almost moot to even think about, because im certain I wont see a pilotless airliner in my lifetime, and I highly doubt i'll see a single pilot airliner while my heart is still pumping.
1- if we won't let trains, which run on a defined path, be automated without a guy driving it, then we're not going to have something as complex as an aircraft be automated with nobody at the helm.
2- 787, A380, New 747 etc....These aircraft are designed around the 2 flight officer concept, and these aircraft have at least 50 years in them.

Lets see... 600 orders for 787 and it hasn't been flown yet.
100+ orders for A-380 and it has been flying for a year, was at the stage the 787 is now two years ago. Most of these orders have had to be renegotiated, and the delays have allowed Boeing to announce the 747-8 and sell it to Lufthansa.
Looks like the 787 was a decent business decision.

Load bearing paint.

I can't wait to get a ride on either aircraft in first or business, since I am flying more now than ever and get upgraded all the time. Both are supposed to be able to be tricked out to make those classes more than what they are now on most aircraft and that is just oversized coach.

One feature I'm really looking forward to is the cabin altitude. It's supposed to be significantly lower than what current airliners offer. That, and something a little better than 0% humidity should help with comfort.
