Who is excited about the Transformers Movie coming out.
I am 30 and grew up with watching them on tv after school and having some of the toys.
I think Micheal Bay and Steven Spielberg will make it a good movie. Something entertaining.
What about you guys?
I heard MegaTron is a B2 bomber instead of a hand gun. (sorry just read he is an alien ship)
Starscream will be a F22 instead of a F15
Bubblebee will be the yellow camero instead of a VW bug (VW would not let them us it in the movie)
-
hollywood has run out of ideas. and it makes me sad to have my childhood dug up and kicked in the junk.
-
Looks like Hollywood's new idea is to adopt anime based shows then make a movie out of it:noid
Don't be surprised when you see a Speed Racer movie trailer soon.

like the idea..looks like a interesting movie...just wish they kept them lookin little more like the older transformers instead of the newer less popular versions....i can understanding updating them abit..but to completely change what the changed into kinda sucks a bit...they turned bumble bee into a camaro..lmao!! does the name bumble bee even fit a camaro ss at all?..lol..atleast they could of made him after a newer vw..hehe and is starsceem even a jet anymore?<~~i still have him and his original box..lol
im going to go watch it and see what they did...im sure ill like it anyways:) im just stuck on my childhood versions.. the ones i grew up with was such a huge craze...i remmeber it was like cabbage patch kids..parents were fighting over them in the stores during christmas...lol.you sure dont see that happening with the new ones.lol

VW did not give permission to use the bug in the movie so they had to come up with a new vehicle. GM wanted them to use the new Camaro (being released next year as a promo for it), but instead they used a 1979.
Starscream is a F/a-22 not the F-15
-
I'm... cautiously optimistic. I just read the "prequel" by Alan Dean Foster, master of the mediocre when it comes to novelizations. (For a good novelization, check out Orson Scott Card's version of The Abyss)
The back story is pretty much intact, there are a couple of characters that have been switched around a bit (I believe Megatron is in Starscream's predicament, etc) and there are some parts that I think will be reminiscent of Area 51 in Independence Day (were they able to get Brent Spiner?), but there's a chance it could be a good flick.
My least favorite part of the trailer, other than the ubiquitous "Fade to black at the end of each cut for drama", is the one guy yelling "BRING IT!". Really? That's the best line for the situation? I have a difficult time believing that.
I'll be there, though. I'm not quite to the point of buying the voice-changing helmet yet (http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/transformers-toys/optimus-prime-voice+changing-helmet-and-battle-blaster-review-271177.php) but I'll be buying some of the movie tie-in toys for the kids.
My 5 year old solemnly requested last month that as one of our projects we build a Power Wheels vehicle that can transform into a robot, so the seed is planted. Kids are great, those minds are always working. They are definitely more than meets the eye.

actually he eventually is a 5th gen camaro by the end. Jazz is a Solstice instead of a 911 and Ironhide is a huge arse gmc truck instead of a minivan, i think that is one of the changes i see no problem with.
it's his movie and i have no problem with the changes and his own plot.
and megatron and starscream have the same roles in the movie they did in the cartoon chairboy.
think i've read to much about this movie.

Skyfire:huh
I dont remember him

Well, its got Spielberg's money in it, so Im hopeful that they try to remain true to the comic book.
I wonder if they'll ever port GI Joe over into a live-action movie?

I am eagerly awaiting it too...
I'd like to know the truth of the internet rumors that it was rated "R" at first, then Speilberg went in a talked them down to a PG13
It DOES sound like it is not the kids show we remember, and alot of kick arse in it.

Can`t wait like most of you guys I grew up watching the carton:aok I don`t go to the movies much but this one I will see:D

not excited at all actually. maybe ill see it when it comes on tv some day
-
My sons grew up with Transformers. Watched it some with them.
The movie trailers indicate that Spielberg and crew did their work well.
On the other hand, the thought of other Japanese anime characters coming to the big screen makes my gorge rise.
Dragonball Z????
-
I used to play transformers in kindergarten.. They quickly got old, but I have to admit that seeing these designs after all this time.. They look damn cool.
It'll be cool if their psychologies aren't too Deus Ex-ized.
And DBZ was as cool as watching good old samurai movies back in the 80s, before today's marketing made it a braindead anime fad.
-
Anybody notice that the most profitable movies nowadays are those with child oriented subject matter? I mean comic book characters, pirates, saturday morning cartoons. All the special ed kids grew up to be film producers?
When I was a child I thought as a child and spoke as a child, and when I became a man I took that child out back and had him shot.
-
I think you're missing the point.
1. Generation X is huge. It's the second baby-boomer generation.
2. These films appeal to this group of people because they invoke nostalgia.
3. Nostalgia is one of the most powerful emotions.
Before this, it was wave after wave of 1960s movies because baby boomers were the biggest generation. And peppered throughout all of this was a constant shower of WWII movies because IT invoked nostalgia for a bunch of people too.
Nostalgia is the real story here, not the fact that it's a movie based on a toy or cartoon.
-
I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I'v always been a fan of Transformers
-
What I've heard from previews so far:
1. The special effects are fantastic.
2. The story is less so.
This is pretty much what we expect, probably, but the difference will be in determining if it's "bad story" like Armageddon (which was awwwwwful) or bad story like Independence Day (while no Citizen Kane, was at least consistent and entertaining).
-
So I went to see it yesterday, and all I have to say is I was really surprised by the movie. I actually enjoyed it a lot.
There is room left open for a sequel and I believe they already have a green light to start on it.
-
Me and wifey have tickets for this afternoon, we've got our fingers crossed.
-
Saw it, was great! Haven't figured out how the Hoover Dam is 20 minutes from Los Angeles, but other than that, great stuff!

Too bade Clyde from Every Which Way But Loose isnt around, he could of played the monkey from Speed Racer. Come to think of it, Clint should be Speed.
"Turn Left, Clyde"
Imagine him opening the trunk up and giving another racer the bird. SO shocked, the other guy drived off the mountain.
BOOM!!!

There were Transformers in this movie?!
Seriously, though, GO SEE IT. I think they did a superb job of capturing the original cartoon, and I understood most of the changes they needed to make (Like Megatron's alternate mode).
-
I was impressed. I was expecting this movie to ruin my childhood cartoon. But it was really good. Some good humor in it to. I recommend going to see it.
-
I thought the different Transformers could have used a bit more character development, (aside from Prime and Bumblebee we don't really get much, especially the Decepticons) however with plans for two more movies I suppose there's time do to it over the course of the series.
-
the movie was great.:aok :aok

Wow two more movies, I just read they are making another one.
I wonder if they are going to bringing in the dinobots, or the constructicons?
Anyways Saxman your right a little back ground on the decepticons would have been nice.
-
Why do you hippies want to understand their backgrounds? It's simple:
They hate our FREEDOM!
What are you, some sort of Decepticon-lover? Go back to Cybertron!
-
I watched it yesterday. This is the best mecha live-action film i've seen.
(oh wait, there's never been a live-action mecha movie until now)
:D
-
If Wiki is to believed (BIG "if") they already have an idea of how to introduce the Dinobots, and they're looking to bring in the Constructicons.

A mechwarrior movie based on Battletech might become reality after this movie.. at least I hope so!

The opening scene of the attack on the military base made me think about a Battletech movie.

Taking my boys to see it. They'd not even heard of transformers before, I think.

I must admit I liked it also. Wasn't expecting much after bays Pearl Harbor(don't get me started). I was pleasantly surprised.

I hope Transformers is not the last of live-action Mecha movies.
I know some of you guys have seen this :) This should be next!

Megonton was some kind of alien space ship. He never had time to morph into something from earth being frozen for so long. I have the Xbox360 game and that is what they say he is.
Ps. The video game sucks!!!!:cry

So far it's getting worse reviews than the new die hard movie. A movie in which the antagonists are hackers who kill people by making their pc's explode lmao.

YEA i say it, the movie was amazing and the animation on the robots was breath taking. There was also many funny parts.

Movie critics are out of touch with the average movie goer. I remember when they were ripping on Star Wars [the first one] when it first came out and it was the biggest hit ever when it came out.
The new Die Hard was great.

Well their job isn't to predict the popularity or profitability of a movie.

In other words, say if a movie is good or not.
-
Yes, don't confuse good with popular.
By that line of logic mcdonalds, micheal jackson and budweiser are fine fare.
The critics, namely rottentomatos, have never steered me wrong. But that's me, if a movie makes one happy that's all that matters.
-
For me there is no middle ground when it comes to movies, or any medium of literature. It either hits what it was aiming at, or fails.
You can usually discern in the first parts of the movie what the creators of a movie were aiming for. Sometimes you can't untill the conclusion, and that's fine.
If a movie has a highly implausible premise it can still work if it doesn't take it's self too seriously. For example Back to the Future, a fanciful and implausible plot, but it was a very amusing movie, because that's what it was trying to be. Had the creators of Back to the Future tried to go a different direction, say scary, or serious, or suspensefull, it would have failed.
In the suave system, there 3 ways that a movie can fail, but only one way it can succeed.
1. The movie is trying to create something that is lame, and it fails. These movies suck.
2. The movie is trying to create something that is lame, and it succeeds. These movies suck. For example, Power Rangers, Bride of Chucky, Air Bud, even if these movies succesfully conveyed what they were going for, they would still suck.
3. The movie that is trying to create something cool and fails. These movies suck.
4. The movie that is trying to create something cool and is successful. These are good movies, they are rare.

And that is why this movie is going to make some BIG bucks, because people are going to see it over and over. There's just so much going on it's almost impossible to see it all.

I took the boys again with their cousin. It was indeed excellent ~ although I wasn't cued in on Megan Fox like Saxman was.

Just took my 2 boys and a neighbor boy to see it. They were pretty excited and enjoyed it.
I didn't grow up with "transdeformers" so the names "Optimus" and "Megatron" were certainly new to me. I enjoyed it for the first 90 minutes, then it became a very looooooooooooong movie.
There were some very funny scenes in that movie, thumbs up for that! :aok

When Blackout attacked the US base in Qatar I was smiling from ear to ear! And when Barricade and Bumblebee had their first car chase the movie had already made it for me. I’ll definitively see it again and buy the DVD!

My girlfriend and I took the kids to see it Saturday night.
The kids (5 and 9) loved it.
I think the whole 'Mom and Dad' scene in the kids bedroom could've done without the whole sex-talk bit. Thankfully the humor of 4 enormous robots trying to hide out of sight of the parents distracted them.
The effects were outstanding. The highway battle between Optimus and that huge battle-tank thing was amazing.
I wonder if Marvel is doing comics based on these new robots?
-
There were two prequel comics, and a comic adaptation of the film. I don't know if they were by Marvel, tho.
I SO want to see Prowl added to the Autobots lineup in Transformers 2 (he was originally planned for this one, but was replaced with Barricade because the producers liked the idea of an EVIL cop car) so we can have a Good Cop/Bad Cop Black-and-White Battle Royale! Anybody know Michael Bay's e-mail address? This is TOO GOOD an idea not to pass along!
-
Heard it was good.
-
I think Robotech: Macross Saga (another 80's anime that was popular in the US) would make a good live action... that's if Hollywood exerts 110% and if Michael Bay directs the movie:)
-
The first 45 minutes, I thought "Hey, just maybe Michael Bay won't **** everything up this time", and then... 20 minutes of giant robots hiding from two suburban parents. The plot took a nosedive after that.
Damn shame. It was still a fun summer movie.
-
u heard it was good husky...wow only good ....
.............IT WAS AWESOOOOOME
-
hopfully the next one they do is starblazers;) hehehe
-
I saw it tonight.
It was ok up till the point where the kid was looking for the glasses in his room and all the trannies were outside. Yuck.
I almost had a seizure during the end fights.
Overall..I didnt like it.
Saw Live free or die hard the night before last. It was better but they too seem to think you have to go over the top with computer special effects to make a good movie. The bit with Bruce riding the jet. I sank in my seat.

looking for the glasses in his room and all the trannies were outside.
:rofl :rofl I agree that part of the movie was a bit akward but I think they relieved it well with the Parental comedy. I felt like the Jon Tutorro spiel was too forced and out of place...the Transformers could have easily prevented them from being taken without hurting the humans.
-
Hey, it's a kids movie adaption of a kids animated series. Its supposed to be a bit childish and akward, but of course it could have been done better. My only gripe was that the movements were too fast and thus it was a bit difficult to follow the action at times.

I thought they did a great job of making the helicopter seem very menacing/mysterious in the first part of the film. The soldiers were hailing it, then it cuts to a high angle shot of the chopper droning on through the desert with no answer. Not sure why they didnt use the force from the F22s that they said they would.

I got curious and checked "Starblazers" (from meatwad's). I must say you guys that grew up in 70s and 80s had good anime showed on off-the-air antenna TV compared to today.
Today, most new animes that are in the same calibre as "starblazers" or "robotech" are only showed on premium cable in the U.S., I guess they must be "too good" to be showed on national tv:D
-

starblazers was quite violent..lol and cool story lines.. how they found the yamato and turned it into a space ship to fight the bad guy aliens that bombed earth ..but i had to wake up at 5 in the morning to catch it.
when the argo{yamato} let loose with its main guns and fly threw the ememy spaceships. then a nice delayed explosion..that was pure cool for a 7 year old kid..lol. i have downloaded a few old episodes just cause its been ages sence i seen it..it was still entertaining...and great to see how they pulled off the old school 3d action...but like i said..its dated compared to the advanced anime now days. but have to remmeber that was 25 years ago or more..lol
