Post by: kilz on June 27, 2007, 04:54:40 PM
ok i have posted this in the past. first time i posted i was told it was my computer but i know that was not true cause my computer was new at that time and was custom built to play this game. 1800.00 dollar tower to play AH2.

second time i posted this i got no responce from anyone.

this is my third time cause this is starting to piss me off. i up a 110, 190A8, Typhoon, and some others i cant remember them all at this moment and shoot down towns out cvs or hangers i get discoed. can someone please tell me why this problem happens. i also get discoed when i dive bomb cvs.

if you need computer info please post and tell me how to get that info thanks

Do you have any custom game sounds loaded?  Unload them.
Set the Maximum Texture Size to 256.
Set the sound card acceleration to 3/4 from Full.
Run a Ping Plot to 206.16.60.37 to see if there is packet loss.
Check to see the sound card is sharing an IRQ with another device in the computer.

Those are best guesses on the limited information you supplied.

A full DXDIAG output would be helpful.
A description of your Internet connection would be helpful (router?, wireless? number of active nodes?  type?).
What in-game settings are you running?

didnt know my sound card had an acceleration thing

how do i do a ping plot???? never done one

didnt know i could share my sound card :huh  i want to know whos stealing my sound card.

and i would love to do a DXDIAG for you but i dont know how.

internet i have DSL it goes cable then phone cord about all i can tell you.

ingame setttings like what i can screen shot those and show you but lots of setting in the game narrow it down for me.

After loading the game, instead of clicking the "online" button on the clipboard, look for a "video" button. Click that, in there you can adjust the video settings of the game. The "textures" has a drop down box to make a different selection.

It does! see the DXdiag below

how do i do a ping plot???? never done one
Go get Ping Plotter (http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_2.exe) <---- clicky Install it and type in the address 206.16.60.37 then run it for a few minutes. Save to a text file, and send to Skuzzy, or post a screen shot here.

didnt know i could share my sound card :huh  i want to know whos stealing my sound card.
not sharing the card, but sharing the same address in your computer where it "talks" to the rest of your computer, we'll skip this one for now.

and i would love to do a DXDIAG for you but i dont know how.
click Start, run, and type in dxdiag, and click ok. It may ask you is you want it to check signatures on files or windows logo or some such thing, just ok it. watch the green bar on left to see when its done.... could take a few mins.

At the top, click the sound tab, in the middle of this page it says "hardware sound acceleration level", move it back one notch to 3/4 of full.

Click button at bottom "save info" save it to your desk top. then open the text file, and "cut and paste" the top third here on the message board.

internet i have DSL it goes cable then phone cord about all i can tell you.

ingame setttings like what i can screen shot those and show you but lots of setting in the game narrow it down for me.
when you are setting the "video" textures as noted above, write down what all the settings are here.... whats pre loaded, whats greyed out every thing, and post it here, a screen shot would work too :)

and i not trying to be an arse here Skuzzy i just know squat about computers.

Ok, you said you have a DSL connection, but I see a wireless network card in your computer.  Are you using that wireless card?

If so, dropped connections to the server should happen on occasion.  You cannot stop them with a wireless connection, but if you set the speed of the connection to be slower (do not ask me how as it is different for every wireless deivce on the planet), then that could reduce the bit error rate which will help.

A wireless connection will never be as stable as a wired connection.

I'm no guru, but the 100% packet lost in the ping plot is not good. It looks like your computer is getting no updates from HTC. If your not getting update, your going to get discoed.

To fix it, your going to have to mess with with your modem and/or router. First thing to try would be to unplug both your modem and router.... if you have a router. In your case, everything between your phonr line and your computer, if it has a power cord, un plug it. Give it a few minutes, then plug everything back in. WHat this does is reboot the modem and router.

Run the ping plot again and see if the red bars disappear and that packet loss is gone. If the reboot doesn't fix it, you may have to have the DSL company come out and check your stuff, your modem may be dieing. Show them the ping plots.

Good luck!

I have posted film of this to SUDZ before, he was  supposed to look into it and find out why it was happening.  It was a repeatable bug.
Havent heard back from him.

This looks to me like an ISP issue.  I would contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and have them run a check on your incoming lines and monitor your connection to the CO (Central office).  If you are like me and live out in the boonies then you may experience packet loss due to distance from the CO if thier repeaters are not functioning as they are supposed to.

Hope this helps in some way.

ok Skuzzy here is what i have done so far. i deleted all my HTC folders. from my computer, i did this once about a year ago and it worked for only about a month, and right now i can shoot town buildings have not tested hangers yet, so we will see how far this gets me. the only other thing i can think of is make a back up disk and redownload my XP. what ya think?

other then that i took my system in today to get checked out and everything is fine so its not a hardwear problem. but i still plan on upgrading my motherboard sound card video card and maxing out my memory so any suggestions would be great on what products are good would be great.

Do you have the connect lost message box or is it a crash to desktop ?

Also does it happen off line too ?

A corrupted sound file can generate crash to desktop.

If the crash happen also off line you would better re download AH (keep a copy of the settings folder) and overwrite your current installation and remove any optional sound file you have.

Download and burn this: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html

Boot it, and run the mem386 tests overnight. There are some AV utilities on there as well, I'd give you hard drive the once over to be sure.

Marginally corrupted files can cause wierdness like you're experiencing, marginally corrupted files usually come from bad memory (where the RAM only has a few bad 'blocks').

I didn;t reply because Gaidin's repponse was appropriate.  With that kind of packet loss, you are not going to have a very stable connection to the servers.

I see your ISP is using Level3 as its gateway to the Inernet.  Level3 is just flaky.  Cheap, but flaky.  Not much anyone can do about that.

The only thing you can do is report the problem to your ISP and hope they will do something.  My experience with Level3 is not good.  They do not seem to care about problems like this.

Their attitude is one of, "You get what you pay for", as they are cheap.

Run a pingplot from both computers. Most likely they won't be running the same path all the time. If you ping it a lot some times you can see the path change, adds hops, or subtracts them. "Level3" is just a cheap set of servers your ISP is routing through. Their connections arn't as strong or clean as good servers, so sometime you'll drop a bunch of packets at one as it gets choaked up, and BOOM ! disco ! HTC allows a certain "time" for a signal to drop packets. Thats so some of those with crappy connections can still play, its also why you see warping. But what is too long (warpy players), or not long enough (people getting discoed), is a fine line to walk.

Comcast has multiple gateways to the Internet.  It all depends on their routing and how they handle the routing of the various IP addresses they allocate to users.

I get booted every now & then as I make a final approach to land on a runway. I also run a sound pack. Could that be the cause? It has happened more in the past month & it does not do it all the time. In fact, on one map in MA, it only happened at one particular airfield.
