in the "settings" folder of the game, find the video8.cfg file and delete it. Restart the game. This will bring up the video setting windows first thing. You will have to turn everything down to the very bare minimums. Even if you do get it to run the game after this, any time you get near anyone else the frames per minutes is going to drop to a slide show.

Figured out the problem. That old ATI card memory was dead. was only running 8mb of it. Threw a spare 256 nvidia card in and it started right up.
Now she is talking crap to her screen trying to learn to fly !! :aok

Was gonna say... ATI Rage.. *shudder*

Yeah its an old comp that was givin to me for some work I did. If she likes the game and starts playing I will have to build her a gaming comp next :aok :t

Just make sure you disable all skins, run at 128 texture size, have the resolution down (800x600 is as low as you can go realistically, but see if the rig will push 1024x768 because it allows things like the hangar and other screens to show up better). Turn off all "weapon effects" "vehicle effects" and all that. Leave sliders default and adjust lower if needed.
I had a rig way worse than that for a while. AH kept getting more and more demanding and it choked when AH2 came out. Glad I'm not on it anymore.
Unfortunately, without all the "goodies" she might not want to play the game! :rofl
