Well in aces high when you do that seems the other person just runs away not really fun if you ask me.........
-
ahh kermie is a great stick(who has owned me a few times before but the favor has been returned this is more an homage then a flame thread ;)
frog boy:lol
-
yeah he's dangerous in that plane.
Ki61 used to be my favorite, it's so horribly underpowered tho :cry
-
ki61 can't climb for dog doo doo.. exploit that aspect when fighting it.
I still like the plane though, one of my favorites. It's nice on the deck too if your careful and keep your speed up.
-
lets just say the thing it is the ki pilot more than the plane ;)
-
The long wings give it alright lift even at lower airspeeds.
The nose mounted cannons give it a good bite if set correctly.
IMHO the big downfall is the amount of 20mm ammo, the the climb rate.
Keep the nose down, use the machine guns to hone in on your target, then hammer down with the 20mm.
Oh yeah, and try to RTB in a crisscross pattern to avoid someone geting on your low six while you return home.
In that situation you wont see much of anything. :)
"Ehy, what happend to my wing? thanks for the check six people.."

Ki-61 is also unusual for a Japanese plane in that she's not a remarkable turner, really only average at best. In a number of ways she's actually a lot more like the later American Iron than the other Japanese fighters.

Think of it as a Japanese model of the 109F, They even modeled the engine after a DB 601 that they licensed and built a lighter version as the HA-40. The Japanese acquired 800 Mauser mg151 cannons that were later replaced. It's lighter and has excellent range compared to the 109. All in all, a great plane at it's introduction but was replaced by the KI-100, which was far superior.
All the Best...

Yea it doesn't turn as well as the ki84 or the a6m's but it seems to roll pretty damn good so you just have to fly it a bit different. IMO if you keep the speed up it's a great little plane and has great cannons compared to the ki84.
If I could get the ki61 cannons in the ki84 I'd be in heaven. If fact, one of the few planes I hate getting stuck fighting in a ki61 is the ki84.
One other nice aspect of the 61 is it's a bit easy on the fuel tank, so it tends to be a nice litlle BnZer as long as you keep that air speed up so you can climb out.

Both planes have the same cannon: Ho-5.

Well something is diffrent on them, because the ki61's seem much more powerful.

Not so. The Ki-100 was identical to the Ki-61 except they ran out of inline engines, so they mated a radial to the same airframe. It was almost identical, and in some cases worse, performance-wise. It was not a better aircraft, it just had a higher number on the name.
EDIT: I agree that there seems to be a difference in feel between the 2 planes' cannons. Ki61 seems more like MG/FF and Ki84s seem more like Hispanos (almost).

a Ki61 will own a KI84 in a low speed turn contest, the Ki84 is not a great turner, comparable to the spit8 IMO

According to Mosq's tests (Revised Sustained Turn list v2.07) The Ki-84 has a turning radius of 445 ft at a turn rate of 22.5 DPS. the Ki-61 520ft at 18.0 DPS (both with full flaps). Spit 8 has the same radius as Ki-84, but at only 20.9 DPS.

In the Ki-61 the Ho-5 20mm cannons are in the cowl and the Ho-103 12.7mm machine guns are in the wings.
In the Ki-84 the Ho-5 20mm cannons are in the wings and the Ho-103 12.7mm machine guns are in the cowl.
If we could get the Ki-84-I-Otsu it would have Ho-5 20mm cannons in both the wing and the cowl. The Japanese built about 500 of that model, more than the Russians built of the three cannon armed La-7 and more than the C.205 or N1K2-J in total.

lmao what have i done, this was more of a hey kermit thread ki61s are usually easy kills for me go figure:rolleyes:
lol karaya your cool in my book
well anyone have at it

No it won't... The drag model update left the Ki-61 as a wallowing donkey at low speed, flaps out maneuvering. Drag is extremely severe and there's too little HP to redeem it.

I'd have to disagree with that. No way IMO can a Ki-61 out turn a Ki84 at low speeds. Not assuming both pilots are equal.
I will agree that the ki-84 does get a little quirky at low speeds and is very easy to lose control of, but it still turns better and climbs better at low speed.
At high speed I'm not sure which one is better in the turns.

I dunno man, I've put a lot of time in the ki-84 (not so much lately) but when I first started flying the ki-61 I was amazed with the cannons compared to the 84's.
Maybe it's something with the arrangement or the convergence but I still say the guns on a ki-61 out preform those on a ki-84. I know they say the same thing in the game, but they sure feel different to me.
btw I think my convergence is set to 450 in both planes, maybe 450 isn't as good for the 84? I honestly haven't played with that very much.
-
450 is much farther out than I'd advise. 250-300 would be better.
-
fly a p40 for a while then jump in a Ki. It has wep and will really roll over the top.

How much would you be willing to bet?

:cry ... that's a shame ... do you think that the model is wrong ?
I remember you saying this before in another thread, so I climbed back into the 61 (I use to fly it alot) and found it to be everything you said ... a wallowing donkey. There was a time that I could spank Spits at low speeds once I got the flaps out.
-
Quit hijacking the thread....sheesh, Let's all get back to the point....I own Freezman!
Skyrock, I own your CHog too......or have you forgetting already?
Odege, , when I think of a KI61 pilot, I think of him. I used to always think what a POS plane that guy flew years ago while crusing by in my typhy. Odege is a good pilot who is known for flying the KI61....you'll find him flying late/early morning U.S. time.
I'll find joo freezman, the horde is no place for a pony to hide.:t
-
heheh i pwn u!
uh oh:noid :cry
-
I worry more when he is in the Tiffy, not so much when I see Miss Piggy's pigtails bouncing in his lap though :aok
-
I have exactly the opposite response.
When I see a 61 or 84, i figure it's gonna be a real brawl cause the guys flying em are probably better then the average MA stick in a Spit 16 or an LA7.
That's why I want to fight em even if I lose. I know it's gonna be fun :)
That and the 38G loves to turn with em
