Hello im new here and have yet to download the game because i do not wish to play untill i have a joystick. I have an older logitech Wingman Extreme but i have lost the usb adapter and my computer has no gameport so ive been looking at new joysticks and was wondering what eveyone here is using and what people think is the better choice for a new player not looking to pay to much. Currently im heading towards the Thrustmaster Top Gun Fox 2 Pro USB Joystick but i havent found any reviews on it good or bad. I have also looked at the Logitech Attack 3 Joystick but i wanted the hat button ((is it neccasary?)) and it has none. Its big brother the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick looks great but ive heard realy bad things about calibration problems in a very short ammount of time. Thanks to all who read this and or reply
:D
Edit: sry if this is the wrong thread, i am new and will gladly delete if neccasary

Stay away from logitech, they just don't stand up in here.
TM is ok, most times I think you'll find that Saitek is better.
Everything from the low end ST290 (20$) to the Aviator (40$ and dual throttles)
up through the Cyborg EVO to the X52 are all good.
General opinion is that CH gear is the best, but its certainly more expensive.

Yeah, the Logitech Extreme 3D pro is one to avoid. The calibration problems got fixed I think, but the real problem is a plastic pivot inside that wears in a matter of weeks making movement spikey. I've had three, all did it in a matter of weeks, and I dissasembled the third to see what the problem is. Steer clear of this one, even though it's a great stick for two weeks. ;)

Thanks guys i deffinately will not be getting any logitech stick. I think i may try to find the Topgun one but so far Iv'e only found them with online buying only so most likely i'll get a Saitech. I was also wondering if a headset is necessary for a beginer?

This is good also for a beginning stick , I use all CH now .

Yes having a mic and using Vox is good also . It's a must if your gonna have a trainer help you .

headsets are nice as they contain the noise from the rest of the house
the saitek aviator (http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/av8r.htm) looks like a good starter stick

Thanks guys, one of those two will be my new stick. Thanks to all who replied and I hope to be flying and providing easy kills for you guys very soon.:D

I'm looking for a child size joystick. The ones that we have aren't small enough to use for any amount of time with comfort. They've got the ones with the adjustable handrest, but those just don't move far enough up. So my thumb still doesn't reach the hatswitch. I haven't found any child size ones though. I guess I could check out toysrus. Maybe they will. Have y'all ever seen any child size joysticks?

Reminds me of the time I walked into the locker room of a Chinese men's gym...

TexasMom, I have small hands and am still using my microsoft sidewinder from the old AW days. I understand you can get 'em off ebay. The one thing MS did right and they stopped making them. rassafrackinrassafrin . . .

I used to love my MS Sidewinder. It's still in the closet; although, toward the end of its days, it really lost its accuracy. Something about POTS dying.
Is there a chance that you get a broken stick if you buy an older model off of e-bay? I'd hate to see that happen.

i used some 1" wide strips of corrugated cardboard, some duct tape, and a long zip tie to raise the handrest on my CH fighterstick. works like a champ. if i can ever find my camera ill take some pics and post em.
