Since I'm not in communist republic of Kalifornia, I can actually get some nice toys that make big 'boom'
That case with a sticker price of 330$, I got for 100$ and split price cost in half with a friend. Also we got two boxes of M150s.... tomorrow (today) is going to be fun evening.
Anyone else is going to make personal display of 'freedom' ?

Just be careful. <

I've got three sons. They're fully loaded. They like 4th of July even better than Christmas. :D

Have fun with those, R.:aok
But be careful.
Woman dies in fireworks accident as family watches
MELVINDALE, Michigan (AP) -- A powerful firework exploded in the face of a woman trying to set it off, killing her as her fiance and 8-year-old son watched, police said.
Danialle Barse, 27, was unfamiliar with the commercial-grade aerial firework she was using Monday night, said Mike Welch, a police detective in this Detroit suburb.
"She basically killed herself in front her children and her fiance," Welch said.
Barse and another woman were trying to set off a 3-inch mortar bomb in the parking lot of the car wash where Barse worked when it went off as she had her head over it, Welch said.
One round hit the Lincoln Park woman, while the other 25 mortars continued to explode in sequence, keeping rescuers at bay, Welch said.
"The bombs were still going off as I ran up to try and drag her out of the way," witness Jason Dobrovalski told WDIV-TV. "But after I'd seen what had happened, I just ran back to try to save myself because it was too late...."

I sold this stuff for 11 years; put myself and many friends through college. Here’s the biggest stand that my brother and I built (he still owns it):
I’ve also worked on many class B shows. The one show that really stands out had a bunch of screwed up shells 3” & 4” that were bursting at 10 ~ 20 feet. That basically puts the shooter right in the middle of one of those big chrysanthemums that you typically see way high. BTW, working a show isn’t nearly as fun as it sounds; you don’t get to see a thing and you spend a heck of a lot of time digging holes.

Cool photo and story, eskimo.:aok

pfff....for the 4th, my uncle brought home some 1/4 sticks of Dynamite from his base. And we have over $500 in fireworks :D
-
You guys go the expensive way, when me cousin was alive, we used our own home made hand grenades and smoke bombs, and we used M-80s and full dynamite sticks. We also had bottle rocket wars, and we threw black cats at each other, all while watching a bon fire the size of two cars. We had fun. Sometimes we buy fireworks, but only when we want show, usually we are fine with "BOOOM BOOM BOOOOOM" and watching craters form.
-
And remember, fireworks are not dangerous explosives, they are nice toys. They won't hurt you if you are not stupid.
-
Sorry eskimo..but that place needs some fuel and a match. I don't think it could be louder and more hideous. I'm happy it got you and others through school...but my goodness me.
-
After 6 years, I still think this is a little peculiar (and will always think it's unsafe), but it's growing on me a little.
Everyone in our town, and surrounding towns park along both sides of the highways and in the median each 4th of July to watch the fireworks show which the military base displays.
Then as you're leaving (driving through the crowd), there is a constant stream of fireworks from each side along the drive.
-
M80+Watermelon= fun:D :aok
If you have ever been to a WWE event the fireworks there are impressive

LOL And that looks tame compared to our ads. We had a super up-beat song and lots of clip transitions, text, fireworks in our TV ads; the radio ads we almost as obnoxious. I think every Alaskan found them inescapable since they were played on every TV station and a lot of radio stations, and often. People would walk up to our stand singing the song. We also would have 3 – 6 high school kids dancing in gorilla suits stationed at strategic places. We hired airplanes to tow banners, would have several bright 8’ tethered balloons, one big 20’ tall gorilla balloon and a bunch of other stuff that I’ve probably forgotten about. Our other stand would give away free elephant rides with every purchase; I think they do pony rides now and have one of those big inflatable slides. Carnival/zoo atmosphere is the way to go to sell this stuff.

Yep... here in kalifornia we can't have any fireworks....
"for our own good".
There are many on this board who would agree with the state... that playing with fireworks is "stupid risky behavior" words like darwin get throw around.. talk of how much brain dead fireworks shooters lying in hospitals with no insurance cost us..
It is as bad as not wearing seatbelts or not having airbags for the shower.
I guess we get what we deserve... we elect women and womenly men and then wonder why we are treated like 10 year olds again.

Well at least you can have some guns :D

In Alaska too? Mother Nature is going to be at heaven's gate waiting for you and your brother so that she can spank both of your bottoms for putting up that abortion in such a beautiful place.

Most folks in the lower 48 cannot conceive Alaska’s size, resources, population density. I’m sure that living in Bermuda makes it even harder to comprehend. Bermuda’s population density is nearly 3,000 times that of Alaska. Heck, Bermuda’s population density is about 20 times that of Anchorage alone! Last year as much area of Alaska burned down to equal 20 times the area of Bermuda; in 2004 the area that burned was 500 times the size of Burmuda. No matter what people do to Alaska, the vast, vast majority is absolutely untouched frontier. Alaska still is what the Western Frontier was to America in the 1800’s.

All that fire and yet that "thing" you call a stand got missed? Darn shame.

The cheesiest kitchy areas of Niagra Falls look like Beverly Hills compared to that.

ahh.. so then.. we can't have fireworks because of the fire risk?
how is blowing up M80's in the street a fire risk?

 I used evil fireworks and world didn't come to an end! No fires or casualties. :aok

I could care less about the safety issues or wild fire risk. I just hate the fokkers who set that crap off at 3 am in the morning.
Read on CNN where a couple of people got shot (Wash and Ohio?) for setting off fireworks late at night.
I totally sympathize with the shooters. I'd accept a defense of 'temporary insanity' after trying to sleep through that crap last night. I had dreams of sniper rifles...
-
When I was a kid we used to have Roman Candle fights and fire bottle rockets at one another bazooka-style using the tubes from the inside of wrapping paper. Add to that fun with the old "flaming tennis ball pipe gun" and all I can say is I'm blessed to have escaped childhood without needing skin grafts.
These days I live in NC where all we are allowed are sparklers and the lame "fountain" style fireworks. This was the first year I bought no fireworks at all as the legal ones are boring and expensive, and we don't have money to waste at present. The SC border is 1.5 hours away, so we had a lot of illegal rockets, M-80s, firecrackers going off all around us anyway.

M-80s are illegal in every state. Have been since 1966.

Wow, that's almost as much fun and good times as late-night gunfire exchanges from the trailer park two blocks away. Those of us with infants and small children who don't go back to sleep when woken up early in the morning by loud scary noises, and are a big barrel of cranky-whineyness when overtired as a result, want to thank you for your love and neighborliness and hope you had a good time at our expense. :aok

we are being protected from hurting ourselves?

I can relate to that. Usually starts a few days before the fourth, and goes on for a few days AFTER the fourth. What really gets me are the totally random "pops" at irregular intervals, or those from passing cars full of punk kids running around town lighting them off. Oh to have a claymore set up along the road!
Fireworks don't do anything for me anymore. 20 years as a Combat Engineer and tours in Iraq... played with shocktube and MDI, crater charges, C4, planar wave front demolitions for breeching charges, primacord, claymore, MICLICS, Bangalores (and field expedient bangalores from wire pickets), blocks of TNT.... I've blown up munitions bunkers, old artillery rounds, bridges, and water-towers (old mining towers all across PA as part of Guard mission),.... in country I've watched MRLS's light off, airstrikes, and a full arty battery conduct a fire mission (bloody impressive at night too when you can see both firing point and impact point -- "radio hill" the place to be on FOB Victory/Liberty for that one!) and heavy use of illumination flares (from both sides).
"Pop....whizzzzzz" just don't excite me.
Still have the recipe for RDX around here somewhere if I ever get the itch I suppose.
And they are just plain stupid out here in Colorado as hot and dry as it gets in the summer. All the fire departments been kept busy this year. As if we didn't have enough problems with lightning.

M80s were banned as part of the Child Protection Act.

There was one time when some friends of mine and I had one of those M80's so we used it to demolish an ant bed. We pushed it down into the center of the bed a lit it off, running for our lives. When we looked back the bed was about 40 feet away with this dark, swirling blue smoke coming out of it. "Oh damn, we bought a smoke bomb by mistake." So we all went back to the ant bed and watched as brilliant blue, then white, then red smoke waifted out from the hole we'd made.
BLAM!!!!!
The thing blew up with us looking down on the ant bed not 4 feet away from it. Ants went ****ing everywhere! We all yelled and instinctively ran away. When we stopped to see what had happened the ringing in our ears was so loud our conversation went something like,
"What the hell happened?!"
"Huh?"
"What the hell happened?!"
"WHAT????"
"Jeez, someone say something!"
"I can't hear you!"
"whoopee that was fun, let's do it again!"
"Huh!?!"
Ahh, the good ole days!
:D

in another 5 years californians will be setting plastic devices that flash and make sounds.
happy 4th!
oh look, another corparation owned holliday.
pass it up and just goto work.

A off duty firefighter up north in Cleveland got ticked at his neighbors for shooting off fireworks past midnight on the fourth. His solution? He shot 5 of them; 3 are dead.

Where did you get elephants?
There was one privately owned elephant in Alaska; he would hire it out to help cover costs. Legally it is pretty difficult to keep an exotic animal like an elephant; my brother is a lawyer and helped the owner out with some of his red tape. The Alaska zoo has two elephants I believe. I think that’s it for elephants in Alaska.
Here are pictures of the other two stands taken last summer:

You'll have to ask the people that made it law in 1966.

The outlawing of M-80s was stupid and unsuccessfull. It's very hard for kids to have fun these days.

you can still get them in some places

Well i live in ohio and were not aloud to have big boom fireworks so we just make out own....ill say
take ur average sparklers and put together about 100-200 all together use ducktape and wrap them extremely tightly like a cone and have one sparkler sticking out to use as a lighter then just wait.........If you do not want and explosion you can not wrap as tightly and just have a big flame that goes a good 5-10 feet in the air (depending on the ammount of sparklers)
well good luck with all the fun you can have with explosions
Jokester
(http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/5904/sparklerbombqc6.th.jpg) (http://img117.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sparklerbombqc6.jpg) this a big flame version coudlnt find a explosive picture
this is the flame you get........(http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/4170/bomb5sw5.th.jpg) (http://img157.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bomb5sw5.jpg)

Unsuccessful?

Yes, unsuccessful. We can still get them (I have plenty of them that me an me cousin have stored away), and we still use them. It's just harder to get them.
-
Are you sure they're over 50mg?
-
We're only allowed the "safe and sane" ones in Colorado as well, that is in some parts at least. In Aurora they are all banned but they can still sell them in city limits:rolleyes:
I e mailed the Fire Chief 2 years ago about why firecrackers were less safe then those pink spinning things that go everywhere. There was no response.
-

Considering they blow a crater in the ground and they don't leave mailboxes standing, yeah, I'm sure they're over 50mg. Not as fun as full sticks of dynamite (which are 2 ft. long), but good for small things.
-
I love shooting fireworks (with the camera) but these are less than impressive considering that they were Indian Reservation fireworks (nothing larger than 2" mortars)
