Title: Rain in North Texas
Post by: rogwar on July 04, 2007, 11:35:54 AM
Would like to take the family out in the boat today but most all the lakes around DFW are closed because of super high water covering the ramps. Lake Grapevine last year was about 12 feet low and now is 18 feet over full pool. It will be hitting the spillway shortly. Glad I don't live in the flood plain.

One cannot believe how much rain we've had...

I'd go down to Lake Cedar Creek but looks to be storming again this afternoon.

Indeed, I was in Kansas City last week and it rained/drizzled nearly the whole time we were there.  Best wishes to anyone caught in the flooding.

This is from a site that is great if you like fishing in Texas as I do.

http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/1428093/page/1#Post1428093

I don't fish Lake Benbrook but the photos show the difference between this year and the last.

Down here in south texas we've had NOTHING BUT RAIN the past month.  It's july and I have yet to water my yard this year and it is green as can be.  We've litterally had rain every day for the past 4 weeks it seems.  The last few days we've had it hard too.  I'm not just talking showers I'm talking monsoon torential down poor were the streets instantly flood and you can't see 6 feet in front of you.

I just got done draining about 6 inches of water from my pool because It was about to flood.

Seems to me that less than 5 months ago there was considerable complains about the drought in Texas, including the hill country. Is the drought over?

JK, I hope all those in the area are doing OK.

If you want to see rain, check out what happened to Sheffield, UK last week. That's where I live by the way. June saw 270mm of rain when the average is about 67mm for that month.

We had 100mm in one 24 hour period. The RAF SAR choppers rescued over 100 people who were stuck on rooftops around the city.

Watch it, you Southern nancy :D

While on a day trip to London, a Yorkshireman walks into a pub and orders a pint of best.  The landlord makes small talk after pulling the pint and taking the money,  "Looks like rain."  The Yorkshireman takes a swig of the beer and replies, "Yep.  Tastes like it as well."

Only an Englishman would consider Sheffield 'up north'. :aok

As for the rain in Texas, sell it to California. We're meant to have had 23" by this time of the year. So far we've had 3 :O

I'm a Wednesday fan, Furball. Tevez is of no concern to me  - he is in fact mildly amusing. Does he play in that foreigner infested, foreign owned nancy boy league you call the Premiership?

Premiership football is for poofs and fair weather fans. :aok

That's because Texans are deserving of nothing less than perfection.
And we know it.

SW Missouri and SE Kansas took a beating and we are in for another round of T-Storms tonight and tommorow, http://www.nevadadailymail.com/story/1221300.html (http://www.nevadadailymail.com/story/1221300.html)
Theres a URL to pictures of some of the flooding here in our county, Last night and this morning the County Sheriffs was seeking Volunteers to help fill sandbags in hope of saving a Town in the northern part of our county, No word on the town yet as the river is still rising. All i can say is if we get much more rain i might have to build an Ark.

Be fair to the English - they built the greatest sewer in the world. If you look at the map, its labeled 'Birmingham'.

Is Lake Grapevine the lake by Bowie Texas? If so thats where my Grandpa lives. The lake his house is by is usually low and maybe high once for 1 week.

I live in Tulsa and I've never seen the Arkansas River so high before. Its now covering the base of some trees, but the river hasn't reached to flood grounds yet.

Man, we need the rain here in Tennessee. Hey Texas, how's aboot sending some of that water up here? We're in the middle of the drought of the century, the corn's parched, barely 4 ft tall now, and nothing else doing good either. We're going into water rations now, and no sign of it letting up. Yes, this is global warming, expect the weather patterns to go haywire. But, this has to occur. It says it will in the Bible, and it never lies. "Storms and earthquakes in diverse places" "the winters shall become as hot as the summers". We're more than two feet behind in precipitation.

Right here...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheffield,_Texas

And that lake out near Bowie might be Lake Bridgeport. That's out near my turkey hunting lease.

Lake Grapevine is right in the DFW area and very close to the airport and HTC.

To learn more about Texas lakes just clink on a region here...

To see like levels in my district click here...

We cannot seem to have any regular weather here in Texas...feast or famine. I'm also currently in que to get a new roof and related items because of hail damage.

I think I can safely say that I live in the original. ;) Famous for being one of the birthplaces of the industrial revolution and pioneering steel manufacture.

Didn't know there was one in Texas. Watching 'The Departed' it mentions an area called Sheffield in that - although I think that is Boston.
