It's just too much fun ;)
I am gettin:
'Is it a new one?' a lot .. and the look when I tell 'em it's 10 years old is priceless.
..then I add its got over 100k miles on it, and I drive it to work an back.
Then comes the:
'It must have cost a fortune' ..so I tell 'em, nope ..I paid 18.5k for it.
Less than a new Civic.
..and it gets 30mpg ..at 70 ..24mpg to work an back in the city.
Ohhh yaa ..I am hooked on this work of art big time :)

Don't forget the exorbitant insurance rates and that every cop zeroes in on the Vette.
-
Umm.. full coverage cost me the same almost to the dollar that our Durango was costing us.
ANd if you drive with any common sense at all ..you wont get a ticket :)
(now .. that group pix up there .. the bronze vette w/black wheels is supercharged, there were two black C-5 coupes twin turbo.. one with methane injection ..and a black Z06 C6 that mixed it up with them on the way down ..they were doin 160+ I heard .. one of the guys drivin a black C6 is a retired phoenix city cop :)
Group of 20 or so of us cruised down at 110 or so.. was a nice mornin for a cruise :)
-GE (it was across the desert, 4 lane divided most of the way, no one around cept us :)

That bra needs to go though. Spray some Pam in its place, just make sure you don't get any on the windshield.
-
What good will Pam do against pebbles and sand?

Both false rumors. Last time I got pulled over* the cop stopped me to ask me about my mods. He advised me that he owns a c5 vette and to feel free to use his name as a get out of jail free card when in my town.(I wouldn't do that)
*He heard my car, then followed the sound to where I was.( I had parked at a restaurant.) So not exactly pulled over.
-
The Pam will keep the bugs from sticking as bad. Bras make sport cars look ugly as hell. and you need to make sure sand or tree sap doesn't get under that thing. The worse thing I ever did to my Z was put a bra on it. I hate those things with a passion.
Best thing is just buy a small spray bottle of paint that matches the car, some fine grain sandpaper and a good buffer.

I'd rather hear the sound of a fine engine over the sound of a car stereo.
-
Well, I can see why you do that.
I've had a bra for my Camaros the last 11 years but I only use them on long road trips. One spring in particular the bra was the graveyard of hundreds of Texas size grasshoppers from driving from Houston to Fredericksburg and back.
-
Give the Pam a try for a week or two and let me know what you think.:)

Whether 'vettes get closer scrutiny and less tolerance from the police may be subject to debate but insurance costs are pretty black and white. Is your coverage higher for your 'vette Grayeagle?
-
There's been a thread going on at ls1tech discussing how much less 'vette owners are paying versus what they paid on thier Camaro SS's and WS6 Trans Am's. Most have been reporting a substantial decrease in insurance costs.

I don't have clue what the Camaro and Trans Am owner's are paying. I'm guessing probably twice as much as I pay for my Honda?
-
Well, you know that depends on a lot of things. My 02 Camaro Z28 with full coverage, $500 deductible, and living in Harris County, Texas costs me about 80 bucks a month. If you're much younger and single I've seen insurance costs in the hundreds of dollars per month.

Right, can only compare costs if all other things are relatively equal.

Mine costs very little to insure and that's with full coverage. I'm afraid you are buying into a myth, Iron.
I'm only guessing due to personal experience and that of my friends but I'd say that Vettes get in less accidents per car, than say, your Honda. My logic is that most vettes get driven less per year than your average grocery getter, typically get better care than said grocery getter, are garaged more than your average grocery getter, and the average age for vette owners is a bit higher as well, due to cost of buying one.
Sure there are plenty of DD vettes out there but there's a higher ratio of weekenders and garage queens out there than your average pickup or econobox.

Having never owned one myself I will admit to second hand information. My perception also goes back to the 60's when Covette's weren't quite so expensive making them more abundant and owned by more "hotrodders".
Now I'm wantin' one. :D

My neighbour has an 07 Z06,all black, wouldn't be my color choice.
Needless to say,a short hop had me forgetting the color.
It's a beast, haven't been paisted to the seats like that since the early 70's.

my insurance on a 01 Z/28 in Hou, TX is $100 a month.
If Dallas police are anything like they are in Houston then the f-bodies and Mustangs get more attention than the Vettes do. I've gotten pulled over a few times for no front license plate then got an inspection of my car on spot.
I'd like to get an 01-02 white FRC but the new Camaro is just to good looking to pass.
-
Yeah, that's true, I can't recall the last time I saw a 'vette pulled over. In fact lastnight I saw a mustang and then a firebird pulled over in 2 separate events.

There's parts of Hwy 6 i just won't travel, like the 290/1960 area. That's just asking to get pulled over.
Cruise should be good tomorrow if the rain will give us a chance. think their will be more than 44 cars, always a bunch that show up that don't post on the site but read it.
The HPD cruise a few months back was ridiculas, 200 some odd cars.
-
Yeah I'm looking forward to it. Just hope the rain stays away.
-
I have a '98 trans-am and a 2007 honda civic, and the civic costs about $160/year more to insure than the trans-am. Both have identical coverage including full collision/comprehensive with a fairly low deductable, and increased liability coverage because our combined income makes us a fat lawsuit target.
Hell, if I ever get really sued, it'd be cheaper to just shoot the bastard and his lawyer. That way my wife would get to keep the house.
-
I have a BMW Z3 Convertible. Full coverage for me is 504 dollars a year.
Of course.....haven't had a speeding ticket for about 20 years. Do I speed?
Hell yes I'm just older and wiser now :aok
-
Insurance on the Vette for same coverage we had on the Durango is within a few dollars per year ..ie: wife says it's less than a 20 dollar difference per *year* ..she was as surprised as I was.
We both expected a hundred or more a month boost ..LOL.
Heck we got surprised in several areas when we bought the Vette.
Wife says it's one of the most comfortable cars to ride in we've owned..
..she sleeps most of the time we cruise anywhere in it :)
Feels about the same at 50 as it does at 70 or 100+ .. solid ..very stuck to the road :)
If I push it hard into a corner, it's very easy to neutral out initial push with a little throttle ..she corners *hard* yanno?
As for places to buy, here's a couple to add to your favorites to look at :
