this saturday afternoon/evening 71 squadron have decided to try running some missions in the AvA together. we'll have a bunch of people, but we think it would be fun to invite other squads to join us too :)
unfortunately the AvA never really gets the attendance it deserves, it's great fun, so we thought we'd go in, boost the numbers, try to attract people to join in the fun, and have a great night with decent historic fights.
so, would anyone like to join in? we're running this thing from 8pm UK (3pm Eastern US) onwards, and expect the numbers to grow a lot as the primetime american players log on. we'd love to have some great pilots and friends to fly with and against us, so if there are any squads or sticks out there looking for some good old fashioned dogfights, carefree (and scorefree) furballs, and a chance re-enact, or even re-invent history, please come along!
this saturday (tomorrow at 8pm UK, 3pm Eastern)
come join the fun, all are welcome! (check your egos at the door. we're all looking for good fights. score means jack, and AvA stats do not effect your MA stats, so don't be scared to fight, even if it looks like loosing is likely, you can just grab another plane, and you're bound to be in for a good, fun fight)
so squads out there looking for something to do saturday, come on down to the AvA! bring your friends, let's fill the place up!

I ll be there. I am atracted to your funny acents. Ohh, wait a minute, never mind

Its where old people play
-
My daughter says I'm old, so I should fit right in.
-
AvA = Allies vs Axis arena, it's just under the main arenas on the arena list on login.
they run historical setups with great custom maps, and the appropriate planes for each side (two sides only). great historic fights. the setup changes each week, so there's always fun to be had :aok

 But I need to keep my E so I can GO.... :noid

Well put.
Panzzer has put up one of the best of the AvA sets, too. If you're flying for the Finns or the Bolsheviks, be sure to don one of the great (and authentic) FinRus skins for your plane.

Biggles, you can count a bunch of Finns to be in there (we're having our summer con this weekend, so we should be easy to shoot down with all the beer and FlakPanzerOil we've had by that time..) :)

I'll try to get on by then. Busy busy busy

i'm sure we'll be going for a while. don't rush for 3pm EST, i'm sure the numbers will grow into the night. that's just when we're starting.
-
Biggles, hopefully we'll get as big a crowd as when we did the BoB, one of the finest moments in AH for me...
-
can really crappy pilots like me come too? :D

(the following reflects my views only)
The AVA is an arena where the overall culture of the regulars is to engage in air to air combat for the most part. Base taking, win the war, etc, for the core group is not what they're looking for. HO's are discouraged, as are ganging, vulching, and ack hugging. Sportsmanship and side switching for balance are encouraged. Not saying you won't run into any of the things that are generally DIScouraged because you will. Just not as often as you do in the MA's.

yes, definitely one of my faves too. it would be so awesome to break 100 or even 150 in the arena, especially because you know 90% of them will be far above average skillwise.
dicho, please come mate, i haven't flown with you in a while :) bring your squaddies too!
i think it would also be fun to break the squads up. have each squad split evenly between the two sides. it's not often that squads fight against each other, and i think it would lead to some friendly and enjoyable fights, but we'll see what people want to do. would be nice for people to wing with people they don't usually fly with too. whatever people would most liek to do though, that's the idea, all of us having the maximum fun together possible!

yeah, what he said :)
there always seems to be far more *chivalry* and respect in the AvA. people leave their egos behind and just have fun. it's easily the hidden gem of AH, but there are never enough people online, apart from when we run things like that (as panzzer mentioned, we ran BoB missions a few years back, it was absolutely awesome, one of everyone's best AH experiences. i think we had 100+ online at one point, it rocked :aok )

Dicho, as Biggles stated, of course you're welcome. One of your squaddies will be flying with us in here (Harppa) so you're welcome to shoot him down or fly with him. And as Biggles isn't running the show, he or his squad can't deny anyone from participating (as Biggles said, feel free to join in)... So everyone welcome. :)

Man, night shifts suck when things like this are going on........not that i'm in any way shape or form up there with you guys on the flying/fighting front, but i do do a good job in getting in the way to allow the better guys to escape, extend etc............

Yep, this meeting is for pilots from all simulators, but this is a good time to show off the community and gameplay in AH for the non-believers (some WW2OL, WB and IL2-series pilots in here besides us AH'ers). So expect at least 10 or so of us to be in there.
-
Just FYI, THIS (http://www.71sqn.co.uk/Incoming/Battle%20of%20Britain.wmv) is what happened last time we tried something like this, it was awesome fun. this is a film i made a while back of just some of the footage and missions from that night.
-
Sweet, d/l'ing now...........bored at work, with hiccups from this godawful nicotine gum..gotta be better than both of those...

I'll be there.

perhaps it would be cool to try and make a film from this one too, if it goes well. might be a fun project, we'll get some sort of story going :)
-
bump, see you all tonight :)
-
Not that I'm a good stick or anything but this sounds like fun. Will do my best to be there.
-
I'll give it a go
-
ppfffffff you don't need to be a good stick lol, just as long as you're ready to have some fun. just try to abide by the AvA unwritten code of conduct (no ganging, no vulching, no real basetaking, be polite, respectful, and above all, fun to fly with!)
-
I'm *hoping* that we do some real missions tonight. Could make for a great film.
-
Im excited :D T-3hr 20 min
-
husky, we're already starting to kick it off in there. 20 online atm just having some fun little furballs :)
we're definitely going to run some big proper missions. i was thinking a big axis raid on leningrad would be cool, with russian intercept, then an axis GV advance, with t34s and il2s trying to keep them from reaching their target.
then a few fighter intercept sorties or something. we can make them up as we go along, but i think a GV battle with a limited number of soviet attack planes and german ground support planes witha special objective for the german advance would be a lot of fun, and a little less generic.
we'll see what people want to do :)
if you're bored though, people are already in there in some numbers.
-
Ill be in there a lil later. I'm getting read to go atm though. Turning 16 in a few days and I'm going out to look at Cars. I should be back around 2ish.

Went on AvA last night, had I good time.
The most players a saw were only 25 at one time, don't know why there wasn't more.
I like the fact that you were restricted to the aircraft you could fly, made the whole thing appear a little more accurate, after all this is a WWII
simulation game.
