Title: Picking on the little guys
Post by: HotHand on July 10, 2007, 09:32:30 PM
This is for Hitech and any others with power!!
I'm Sick and tired of seeing the kids of Ah get hackled and picked on. most of them are younger the 16 and still pay the 14.99 a mounth to play. Yes they have a sqeeky voices but they pay the $$ they have the same rights as us older guys!!! Today 2 players who i will not say there names thought it would be funny to team up on and hackle a little guy who i was flying with. the kid got so upset he almost left the game. THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! If we are cracking down on the cursing then we NEED TO CRACK DOWN ON THIS!!!! All these kids want to do is play and have fun. i was one of then when i was there age. We need to fix this. This is bigger then cursing this is someones feelings!!!!

Best thing you could do is teach them how to use ignore for the "grown ups" that act younger than them. ;)

as far a squeakers goes, yes sometimes things might go a bit far.  on the other hand, that is a 2 way street.  being respectful and not sitting on vox squeaking out whatever it is that comes to mind every 2 seconds is a good start.  Then again, it's your $15, you are free to do with it what you like.  being young shouldn't be a reason for heckling, but it is also no free pass either.  for me, i usually don't say anything, and for the large majority of the time, there is no need to say anything.  On the other hand, sometimes just to much.

p.s if any of them are paying for AH, not their parents, then wtg.

First off, they are not paying their $15 a month, they have mommy and daddy paying their $15 a month. That's all fine and dandy, but I have 2 squeakers of my own at home I have to deal with. When I go online I don't intend to listen to someone elses little squeakers that think they know everything about everything, because they saw someone talking about it on MTV House Rules or whatever other "reality" show they tune in to.

Being polite only goes so far. I don't know how many times I have ASKED POLITELY for some squeaker to lay off the mic unless it's something important, only to have said squeaker go off and start cussing me out, sending me endless PM's and what not. If my kids behaved that way around me they'd get knocked to the floor.

I the kid can't be respectfull of others and keep his mouth shut for more than a couple of seconds and ends up getting harrassed about it and then wants to quit......GOOD.

Man I hate summer time when all these kids get in this game. I can't wait for school to start up again when a vast majority of them are no longer able to play.

the way you posted it makes me think you are one of the ones that get picked on for having a high pitched voice

I think yes, it needs to be brought under control. But I also think some kids need to toughen up. Heck, Silat gave me so much trouble when I first joined, I went on at LEAST 4-5 shouting rampages, but then I grew up... and now we can have civilized conversations!

Give us permanent squelch option and problem will be solved.

True, its not nice to pick on someone just because he has a squeaky voice.

If he has a squeaky voice, bothers you all the friggin time with questions, opinions, giving orders and telling you what you must do then yes... let him know its about time to calm down. WHEN that does not help then squelch them and "pray" that they are only on 14 day free squeaker pass.

This is too funny.  I have no problem with a well mannered and well behaved squeaker, as I have been known to help young'ins out by teaching them the ropes from time to time (no I can not recall their names off hand).  However, I have a huge problem with the loud and endlessly obnoxious ones that get on vox and squak out a play by play of their whole dadgummed sortee! ("help! I have a fuel hit he is behind me, I just pulled an immel, im out of"..... well you get the Idea. add that to all the "how do I put my gears up how do I use flaps where am I" asked all day long over and over by the same guy even though you already told him how) But yeah.... I like SOME young'ins but not all! if there were a perma-squelch well that would solve the problem right there, but to have an intense fight going on (if you can find one now a days) and in the middle of trying to concentrate you hear the melodious sounds of a squeaker chirping away when you though he was squelched! :aok

Why do "they"......... "squeak"?

I cannot believe that these kids lead their lives sounding like that when not talking over vox.

This may sound "nationalistic" but do all young US adolescents sound like this?

I dont know any young Brits who play now but can say when my son played aged 14 to 16 he did not sound like the oft refered to "squeaker" when heard over vox. (But then he didnt have a deep baratone drawl either)

Refering to adults on my system many US adult accents sound accentuated over vox particularly those accents originating from "the ol South"

Could vox be changed to more realistically represent vocal tones?

Re young players in general........... they are revenue. They keep HTC in the black and this game alive.

They may be less considerate and certainly less mature than the average populace and as there are more of them the average level of maturity will get lower. This is a fact the rest of us will have to learn to live with IMO.

we can all point to some pretty immature acts seen demonstrated by many an "adult" here I am sure.

I am reminded of a certain trainer who used to assist SM (snowman) back in the mid 90's training on AW. He was one of the best of a very good group of trainers (I think his name was iceman {icmn?}not to be confused with another iceman of the time), well respected and well attended during his tutorials..............he was 13/14. However without the benefit of vox no one knew this.

Once this "got out" there was some ribbing.

However as SM said at the time...............

"we are all the same age here"  he was right IMO

age is not the issue here

maturity is.

man, there is not a thing wrong with being southern nor are our voices skewed in any fasion.  I have several squad mates that come from the south (myself included) and I hear and understand them without any problems, come to think of it I can even understand the Canadians from my squad without fail.  I also on range channel have spoken with Macleod (man Im sorry I butchered your name, but they get the idea of whoom I am speaking) whoom speaks with a scottish (ok so I can not remember the exact nation he is from so sorry Mac, but again they get the idea) accent and I can understand him just fine.  I guess what I am getting at is thus, just because I throw in a "y'all" or "fixin" or any other southern slang term does not mean we ALL in a general sense slur our speech and talk real slow like Gomer Pile or Gump!  Yeah, so I'll admit it I am American by birth but SOUTHERN by the grace of God an' proud of it, but on the same note I am also quite understandable over VOX along with my fellow souotherners.
I digess, sorry for that but bear with me as I now move on to the second counter point of rebuting the statement that American youths sound different that elsewhere.   A squeaker is just that, reguardless of nationality a  pubecent that still has that high pitched cracking transitionl voice though there are exceptions to include those that are pre-pubecent and by default have that higher pitched voice of youth.  This is true of any nations youngsters, as the human vocal aparatus works the same despite the language being spoken.

That being said, I do agree that maturity has a role to play in the grand scheem of squeakerdom.  If I do happen across a youngster that has a good head on it's shoulder and wants to learn and not act ignorant or be obnoxous intentionally I have no problem with that.  Because the younger pilot with maturity will not make the all too commonly done "play by play" or talk about the great movie, tv show, or other things he saw yesterday IF it does not pertain to the topic/fight at hand.  That being said, while I like SOME younger pilots the fact still remains that when they push that broadcast button, it is still verry much more often than not loud and ear drum traumatising(ok so not traumatizing but still pretty pitchy).

Ok im done, sorry if any toes got stepped on, im really not that bad of a guy.

You know whats funny Hothand, the majority of us play this GAME because it takes us back too we were thier age, when we dreamed of flying a Fighter plane and getting into a dogfight just like John Wayne in the movies.

Just can't figure out why people hate on them when they are really trying to be them. When your under age 18 everything is all good, no TAXES to pay, or mortgage, or a car payment.

Bottom line, they pay thier money just like the rest of us, so we ought to respect that. When all else fails use the squelch function.:aok

I Know its a 2 way street but when i said we need to do somthing that also means telling the squeakers that talk every 2 sec to stop. it not kool to pick on the ones who don't use vox that often. I just think we need to be respectful , thats all. i got 4 nephews i deal with i understand the issues with dealing with them and coming on AH and dealing with someone else. just don't make fun thats my point. ask them to stop and tell them why. most of them do not understand why your upset.....

For Tilt I enjoy hearing the British accent very much. If you would like to visit the South maybe we can help you learn to talk right. LOL.
BTW I have a picture my Dad sent to my Mother during WWII. He was a b-26 pilot and the picture was a flight of 26's dropping bombs. On the back was the expression "give it to em yanks". Seems like out countries share a lot of history during the war.

here is why we pick on the squeakers because yes they do have loud mouths. also the use stupid words and get mad at any if the joke around with them.

I saw two kids playing and someone very well known come back from the rook side and they went to attack mode oh we don't need you leave now! and things like that they were degrading him compleaty over him joining on diffrent sides me and a buddy of mine had to break this one up.

I also had to breaking up one yesterday, they were realy dgrading eachother like your gay and things like that.

they are pick on for thir cazy attitude and need an attitude adjustment or stoped being spoiled by their parents.

im 15 and my parents don't pay for this as I have to pay for everything else that I want not what I need

Maybe my point was missed.............

I visit the US occasionally, my companies US office is in Atlanta I am familiar with certain accents..........

Ok we may take some michael out of each others accents but I swear that AH Vox accentuates some accents more than others...........

Mid Euro accents (German, Polish, Hungarian............any one listened to Ghi)sound like they eat gravel............ as do some Texan accents (anyone listened to HiTech or Coach) and they do not sound like that in RL........well maybe Coach.

US accents particularly the more "musical" are more pronounced with exagerated inflection..............

Hence I cannot believe that these "squeakers" actually sqeak this way in RL.......not 24 hours a day

vox sound quality must be doing something IMO

Vox is a feature of the game, We pay the $14.99 every month. Just cos someone likes to talk more or has a squeeky voice they shouldn't be presecuted because of it.

For those of you who don't like the "Squeekers" just turn down the ingame voice  volume.

Edit: The only reason I am getting involved in this debate is I myself have been told to shut up on vox because I am calling out 6's and nme conns.

When I asked said player(s) why, they said they didnt like the sound of my scottish accent. I on the other hand am old enough and wise enough to know, if folks dont like my accent - I aint gonna apologise for it they will just have to put up with it

all kinds of stores to browse through both sides of the street.
there is a hardware store that ain't open on weekends, I'd like to go in and have a looksee. they got a nice, huge,  $249 pressure cooker in the window, just the right size to make you a quart of shine errrrrr nevermind..... oh yeah it'll make do for one heck of a fish fry , yeah thats it.

I think most of this stems from the youngsters of this game playing as if it were some form of X-Box game.  I have in the past few weeks been told on many occasions how I should run my sortie, who I should shoot at, how and what armor to take and use and how and where to place my armor.  All valuable information, but unfortunately all wrong for what my assigned objective was.

I have had kids ask for information on range channel and had other kids pipe up and give wrong answers.  No biggy, but when I gave the right answer, I was told I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about.

And my favorite.  Kids that just don't shut up.  I go to a base under attack and have to spend half my time squelching kids that feel the need to call out every move they make, where they are, where every enemy is and then REPEAT IT OVER AND OVER.  "There is an M4 on the ridge.  I am right over him.  Roger, I am in an Ostwind and VHs are down.  He is still there.  M4 on the ridge is moving to the base.  There is an M4 on the way to the base.  Hey guys there is an M4 here."  For crying out loud.  The VHs are all down and I am in an Ostwind and you have two 1000-pound bombs on your plane.  DEAL WITH IT ! ! !  Mind you this is the same squeaker you explained all this too calmly just the day before.  .squelch

Yes, it is their $14.95.  But it is also MINE.  They subject me to constant heckling too.

BUT, there are those out there that actually listen and learn.  To those few, I am sorry.

All I can say is 53 more days.

Well said.

I'm 14, I don't squeak, none of my classmates do, nor have for at least two years.  Most the squeakers are 11-12 year olds, and even then I don't know of many who squeak.  I believe that either the squeakers we encounter via VOX are abnormal, or VOX doesn't realistically portray their voices.

Off topic, but Vox could really use some improvement.  The sound quality pales in comparison to teamspeak or vent.  I'm surprised they can't use better codecs or bandwidth.

I think we should have a ".drop" command, if the squeaker reaches a certain octave we use that command to make relavent parts drop therefore making squeaker to baritone.
If this will not be feasable how about electrodes to the nads of squeakers ?

I agree with HotHand its always fun to pick on one another once in a while we all do it to each others. I think its ok to joke around (like we always do) a say a few unkindly things the younger members but make sure you don't go over board and continue with it until you're just saying nasty things to them. Everyone can take a joke and you have to be able to laugh at yourself but let them know your just messin around and mean no harm. I try to help some of the younger members so they know how to play the game and yes sometimes i say a little joke to them such as "Alt f4 is to drop bombs" but we all laugh about it and afterwards I tell them how to drop bombs. I am highly against hackling anyone. No matter how old you are you're always a n00b once and we need to help those people learn the game so they can teach others how are new.

I am 12 years old, and have been playing this game for about... a year and a half.  I rarely ever talk on vox and if it is it's because I'm replying to what somebody told me.

I pay for my own subscription, and I don't recall EVER beint told to shut up.

I have even gotten compliments from some people in this game about my behavior (good behavior)

I love planes, and no matter what, will continue to play this game.  But I agree with you hothand.  I haven't gone a day without seeing somebody with a squeaky voice get bashed because of it...  Of course, I do sometimes get annoyed when they CONSTANTLY tell you what they're doing.

Like I said before, I am one of the few squeakers that DON'T get on people's nerves.  I often times refer to people as sir or (very rarely) ma'am.

too the point though.  Hothand, I agree with you.

If anybody is interested in flying with me, pm me some time.  I'm one of the few squeakers that "squeak" and do what other squeakers do.  What's really nice though is I'm only 12.

i have to say i honestly agree, im 12..i get picked on for no reason. All i say is "watch out behind you man" and all of a sudden some jerk tells me im sqeekin. No i do not have a high voice. I have gone through that stage in puberty. But being called a sqeeker by some random jerk while i was helping him out. Some people just have issues...

thats exactly how i got my chat suspended for awhile...standin up for myself while being picked on by some retarted 18 yr old tellin me im sqeekin. That word has seemed to have sprung up overnight cause for the last only 1 week i hear it every minute. I have never heard it before until then. I pay for my subscritption...my "mommy and daddy" dont pay it. I use my own money! I have job and i work for my hard earned cash. and when i come on this game to play i dont expect to be harrassed just because of my age. When i see someone else getting picked on i immediatly stand up for them. Since when in this game does age matter???? It's all about the dogfighting! So quite cussin people and shut up and fly is what i say.

amen man amen :aok

i also call people sir, no matter what age. WHEN DOES IT MATTER HOW OLD U ARE IN THIS GAME!!!!!! :furious

My defention of a squeaker is somewhat different from others. Yes there is the high pitched voice, but it has to be combined with irritating oBEHAVIORo. In my book a whiner at the age of 60 can also get my squeaker stamp of approval. :D

Age and voice is only 25%, and the remaining 75% is how they oBEHAVEo.

oLOLo yup :D

That soundbyte is a good example of a squeaker with a deeper voice. To be fair i have not seen any of that in the last month or two, but then i havent shot him down in awhile either. ;)

Like I said I do not have  a distain for the younger pilots that act like grown folks, I have been known to actually help some when asked.  I do however get pretty hot when the nintentards show up and fill the vox with high pitched banter.  I prolly used to have a squeaky voice as all males do at one point (like it or not adolecence happens), it is not anything for the young'ins to be ashamed of but it is rather harsh on the old ears. Furthermore anyone whoom says they have never heard an example of the high decibel squeak is a lie!
