Here's my ranking,interested in other people's comments.
1:Harvey's Double Original>Flame broiled fresh with great toppings.
2: Dairy Queen Brazier>Juicy flame broiled but average bun & toppings
3:A&W Papa-Teen>Flame broiled but each burger has some stupid family name.
4:McDonalds 1/4 Pounder>If you get one made fresh(not in heat storage for 20 minutes) they are pretty good.Toppings are poor.
5:Burger King>Flame broiled but bland.Way too much mayo.(%40 more fat than McRaunch's 1/4lb w/cheese.
6:Wendys>1/4lb Original..Fresh,never frozen but it isn't very juicy or tasty.Toppings are generous...Their best burger is the Bacon Jr Cheeseburger.Small patty on a good size bun with 2 tomatoe slices and a hunk of lettuce...

Hands down, Sonic.
Sadly, they are not totally nationwide (or Canada), and are only in the southern half of the US.
Big, fresh, and get to you HOT!
Get an order of Jalepeno cheddar poppers with it...
Makes McD's or Burrger King look pathetic.

Never liked Harvey's burgers. Never been to Sonic.
The absolute WORST burger(s) I had was at Whitecastle while at the Indy Con. That place should be shut down.
Best burger is tough because we don't have any drive throughs here...but when in the US I like:
Bacon double Cheeseburgers from Wendys and Burger King.
-
Hands down, Sonic.
Sonic is freaking gross. Both times I have eaten Sonic burgers I became sick to my stomach.
Runza Drive-In has the best burger by far but you have to go to Nebraska to find a Runza Drive-In.
-
I do like Sonic.
Whataburger is pretty dang good though.
-
I prefer In and out Burger
-
McDonalds sucks :aok :aok :aok
my 2cents.
-
I also enjoyed In & Out burger. Fresh ingredients, and while simple, they were good. I like strong flavors, so I'd order a Double-Double Animal Style.
The meat is cooked and fried with mustard and then pickles are added, extra spread and grilled onions are added to a burger similar to a double quarter pounder, except made from good, never frozen stuff.
-
We like Sonic and have never had a problem with their products. It's a nice treat for us since we also get the fancy shakes that sonic has. We both like the banana cream and coconut shakes.
I haven't tried the in&out burgers yet. They aren't in the areas we have been traveling in. I go to McD's only if there is no other option available.
-
In and Out is probably the best in my area for a burger chain.
Bartels is the best hands down but it is a local thing
Whataburger use to be good, but I haven't been to a Whataburger since I was in Texas (20yrs ago) so I don't know how they are now.
Sonic burgers are probably the worst I've had. I would rather eat at McD's.
-
Wendy's. I'd take Wendy's over all else if I have the choice.
McDonalds lost me when they started using sawdust for beef filler and when they switched to peanut oil to cook the french fries.

when they switched to peanut oil to cook the french fries.
When I worked at McDonald's in high school they cooked their french fries in lard. I was severely disappointed when they switched. Prior to that no one had better fries.
-
The Twin Cronies, Clovis NM. A heart attack in a bag. You neaded a drip pan while you're eating one!
:p
-
all those places suck .
Beef N chedders at Arby's :D
-
Hardee's Six Dollar Burger has my vote.
-
Wendy's Triple Stack (not the Triple). Really good after 2 or 9 pints.
-
Mcdonalds suckssssss, Sonic sucks (atleast around Austin, every one I go to the fries taste like they were in the freezer for 20 years, old and stale)
and who decided that mayonasie goes on burgers, blech
in no particular order
Wendy's - double bacon and cheddar with jalapenos (was limited run, not available anymore, waiting for it to come back :) )
Burger King - Texas Double Wopper - double burger with bacon, mustard, jalapenos
Whataburger - Double bacon/cheese with jalapenos
Dairy Queen - Double bacon/cheese with fried jalapenos
Carls Jr - Double bacon/cheese with jalapenos (got to try this when we went to Nevada last year,..bring Carls Jr to Texas)
Arbys - #2 Roast Beef, potato cakes, jalapeno poppers

While i was in the US, i learned that Jack in the Box (i think, the chicken place) sucks.
Had a great breakfast at Denny's while driving to Vegas from the Grand Canyon, awesome. Only about $6 too!

I would list Burger King, except they put mayo on their sandwiches. And when you do that it becomes a sandwich, not a burger.

ppppssssstttt, tell them to hold the mayo...
thats what I do and then ask for extra mustard, cause they basically just wave the mustard knife over the bun.
-
I don't know about some of your experiences at Sonic, I've been to Sonics in 6 states with no problem. The one 3 blocks from my house is great! And that's 40 years experience munchin' burgers!
In the "old" days, Sonic had #1 Sonic Burger: mayo
#2 Sonic Burger: mustard
My fav: mustard.
I will agree that Whattaburger is awesome, there are 2 in Arkansas, and they need MORE.
Backyard Burgers is ok, but pretty pricey considering what you get.
I make my own burgers. For the 4th, I made garlic stuffed burgers.
Personal Fav: Burgers stuffed with shallots, sauteed mushroom bits and Blue & provelone cheese...with stuffed cheddar & pepperjack jalepenos on the side...all done over the coals in my Weber.

It's 3am, you are barely able to walk you are so drunk, and you are hungry.
THAT is when a double whitey burger, cheddar fries and a choc. shake becomes food of the Gods.
It's all perspective...
Daytime and/or sober is not the time/condition to properly enjoy a white castles meal.
-
I forgot to say that Dairy Queen & Wendy's marketing puts out the funnnnnniest commercials. So I'd get a burger at each of those every once in a while just for a
to them on those funnnnny commercials.

In Britain, people in the same drunken state have a Doner Kebab.
Even if you cannot remember eating one, you will soon realise that you did in the morning.

Don't eat too much of that kind of stuff these day. Us older guys have to watch our diet, you know. But when I do, it's Sonic.
-
In and out and the local Clarkes burger.
Carls JR (hardees back east) with their 6$ burger is a close third.
Jack in the Box is not a chicken joint, thats popeyes or KFC. Jack in the Crack is renown for killing people with tainted beef.
That said they are 4th on my list with the new Chibata bread double bacon burger.

hahaha! Was that the place a few blocks away from the hotel? I think I snagged a meal just before heading back to Milwaukee... grease craving for hangover... it worked, but my colon was not the same for 12 hours.
Back to the thread - Sonic burgers do indeed rule. I have yet to consume a legendary In-and-out... west coast bastiges.

Within the past 3 years McDonalds has changed how they make their burgers. Now they just taste bland. I can tell they use some sort of filler. Closest approximation to what I know it looks and tastes like is saw dust.
They also recently use to cook their fries in Beef Oil. With the vegans riding their case, they were pushed over the top during a Mad Cow scare. Now I can taste peanuts whenever I eat their fries.

I live in So Cal: In N Out Burger. A Double Double w/ grilled onions.
When I fly home to St. Louis to visit: White Castle on Natural Bridge is closest to the airport. Ten White Castles to a bag. My son, California native, will order a bag with me. No cheese, no stinking fries, just Belly Bombers. First stop after picking up the rental car. Any time of the day.
HONK!
Gooss
-
Gooss, I'm with ya man! In n' Out out here, White Castle sliders when I'm back home in Chicago. Just don't get blasted and eat a sack the night before the plane ride home...;)
-
We have a MacD's not far from home. It makes Big Mac's that look like the ones on TV, and taste great.
I always used to wonder why people overseas used to bag MacD's, then I went to Australia, Thailand, and Singapore, and experience the sludge they substitute for meat in the MacD's there. The Big Mac I had in Aussie tasted like someone had put out a cigarette in it.
If you ever come to NZ, try the MacD's in Porirua and Mana :)
-
Man it sucks where I live.
all we even HAVE in Milwaukee is McD, Wendys, BK, and an extremely rare Hardee's.
Oh there's a DQ every now and then too.
we do have some local custard stands that make freakin great burgers, but "drive through" ? umm if you call getting a number, parking your car, and waiting 10+ minutes. Most people who go through their drive throughs only get custard, malts, or whatever. all the burgers are made fresh to order from scratch so they don't really count.
I have never had anything ni my life other than the ones listed above, and White Castle.....
Oh what I'd give for a White Castle in Milwaukee. There is one about 45 minutes south near the Illinois border (about 1.5 hour 1 way trip from my house) but I make it once a month maybe just to get that tasty goodness.
-
I heard there's a diner here in town (called 'Mom's' :D ) which supposably has the best burgers ever. Been thinking of finding it. Maybe I will this week. :)

Hehe, cute!
In my order of preference:
1. Whataburger - A Texas legend.
2. Prince's Hamburgers - The paradox. The place I've had one of the best burgers ever, The Alamo burger. A week later I ordered something different and was probably one of the worst burgers I've ever had.
4. Fuddrucker's - Consistantly one of the best and you have to love a burger place that has it's own butcher shop built in. Damn, it's been too long since I've had one!
3. TGI Friday's - Don't know why but the one on Bay Area Blvd. and I-45 made some of the best, juiciest burgers I've ever had.
I agree with Skuzzy. Mayo turns a burger into trash filler quicker than anything. Mustard only. And LOTS of it!
-
What-A-Burger and Sonic man i miss those places. we dont have those in Alaska

My favorite is the “Kewpee” there were 200 of them before WWII.
Now there are only 6 Kewpee restaurants left. 1 in Racine, Wisconsin, 2 in Lansing, Michigan, and 3 in Lima, Ohio.
The best one is in Downtown Lima and was built in 1928.

Dude, I had heard so much about these "sliders" that when the taxi drove past a whitecastle close to the hotel I made a special walk (farther than I thought) to go try them.
Honestly...you can't call them burgers. Just awful.
-
I'm too a Burger fan ! :D
I build my own burgers, after years of testing & trying & experimenting,
some friends here asking me to start my own Burger company! :D
I ended up making my Burgers on a Charcoal Grill, its just the best taste.
I like the BK Whopper,
and the McDonalds BBQ Burger McRib, the Quaterpounder TS (Tomatoe &
Salat) and the BigMac.
the BigMac is a different aproach if you talk about taste, i just finished my
own "BigMac" recipe and people here like it very much.
btw. the original BigMac sauce is adapted from an original russian recipe.
And i'm not a fan of "Doubble" Burgers (cept the BigMac!)
One day i will visit the US for sure and try all the Burgers there !:D
But my Daughter is just 1 year old and i think i have to wait until she is
3 or 4.

well not really... they are called butterburgers because the buns are toasted and almost dripping with butter when they add the patty and other stuff.
quite tasty but the wait is not worth it.

The best burgers are off my grill:) I buy my meat from a friend of mine who's a cook at a "Charley Brown's" restaurant. It's called "Rancher's Reserve" Man, you can really taste the difference between REAL 100% beef with no crap(ie soybeans) added for filler. $20 bucks for a box of 25 quarter pounders :)

The grease reduces air friction. Most people who do it get at least a 2% boost to their Gasoline mileage.

are you sure it's only 2%?, Billy Mays says his super MPG grease will give you at least 10% increase in mpg for only $19.95, and if you buy now he will double the order to two giant size grease packs.

Whataburger is the best hands down. Double no mayo and tomatoes extra pickles and onions.
If I cant get that Ill take Wendys, Sonic, or Dairy Queen. Oh and Jack in the Box tacos.
Id rather starve to death then eat from BK or Micky Ds.

BK got it's start right here in miami, fl. and they produced a great burger that was flame broiled. when I was kid my dad would take us to the BK on the corner of NW 27th Ave and NW 36th St. to stand in a long line in the hot sun to order our burgers, fries and a chocolate milkshake. the burgers were great, the fries even better the shakes were so thick, yummmmm good stuff. after BK was bought out by a major food processing giant in the mid sixties the quality immediately went down hill. today the stuff is practically inedible.

I'm with Curval.
I heard so much about these sliders from White Castle, that I bought 3.. out of shear confidence that it was going to be great. I couldn't get past the second bite of the first one and almost spit it out. That was the nastiest burger I have ever tasted. How could any reasonable taste bud be seen hanging around one of those places??
In-n-Out is so good it's a curse. If you ever had one and now live anyplace where you can't get one, you are always sad.. :(
