Title: 8800GTX & Ghosting. Driver problems.
Post by: JOBE on July 11, 2007, 07:07:56 PM
Just got a new PC with Quad 6600, 4G RAM & 8800GTX card. Sad to see that I'm getting some ghosting (slight 'vapour trails' behind the planes sometimes - ghosting?). I'm very surprised by this, but a friend of mine has the same card and is experiencing the same problem with AH, despite having a different monitor,

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I've heard that there are problems with the drivers for these cards - can someone please tell me what these problems are, as I'm trying to figure out if I've got a faulty card. :furious

I'm using 158.22 drivers,

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Most ghosting is caused by the monitor, not the card.

My CRT never did, but it died, and I had to get rid of it. My LCD does. Nothing I can do, just a problem with this specific CRT.

What monitor do you have?

Thanks for the reply, I've got a Mirai 5ms response time monitor, and my friend has a Samsung 2ms monitor. I could have maybe put my problems down to a poor monitor, but I know the Samsung is a good monitor. I'm starting to pull my hair out over this - the monitor came as part of a package - I can't see the company being willing to change it for ghosting that really only shows up on flight sims!

I use a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW and see no ghosting. Judging by the 2ms response time you mentioned it's probably the same one your friend is using.

The 8800 driver problems are not related to ghosting. Earlier drivers had stability problems and IMO the biggest problem of the 8800 driverset is the new .net control panels which lack the functionality of the older version. That and they're extremely buggy GUI wise.

Anything under 8ms refresh time shouldn't ghost, period. Check your Hz refresh rate, maybe? Check any settings on the card that are funky?

Does it only happen in AH or all things?

Read some LCD monitor reviews.  You'll see that a lot of LCD companies fudge their response time numbers.  Some that are stated to be 5ms actually run closer to 20+ms.  Not all LCD's are created equal.  From what I quickly Googled, Chimei own Mirai.  And I know Chimei is pretty budget based.  The Samsung LCD is pretty good quality and has seen good reviews.
