Hi, I am new and I have a few quick questions for anyone that can help.
What are the costs associated with playing this game?
Can someone give me a quick brief of the game? ie: flight sim only....
Thanks!

Basically, a $35 joystick and your $15 monthly subscription are your only costs.
Those of us who've been really sucked into the addiction, have spent hundreds of dollars on Joystick set-ups. Hard core addicts will upgrade computers, video/sound cards every year or so.
For me, $500 @ year more than covers it.
-
Hmmm 14.95 a month
the game, fly around shoot people down, bomb ground vehicles, wife or girl friend tells you get off the computer...ignore her...fly and die some more. Wife/GF says "I am going to stay with mother"...Jump into a tank drive around and shoot buildings and other tanks...Realize you have been playing for 24 hrs straight...and Wife/GF hasn't come home yet. Plug computer into surround sound. Police department shows up and says turn down the stero. Wife/GF shows back up with friends to help her move. Ah play in peace and quite. Its addicting, and its all to great, if you have a love for the WWII gen planes, and you love to kill things.

The game is based on WWII aircraft...American, British, German, Japanese, Russian & Italian. The flight model & ammo ballistics are based on real data and numbers. Ammo and fuel load-outs determine weight and weight variances will determine flight characteristics.
The Main Arenas are divided amongst 3 countries...Bishops, Knights & Rooks. By reducing the number of any one countries airfields and vehicle bases down to a set percentage, the country with the most remaining airfields/vehicle bases wins the "war" Perk points are awarded to the winning country players, who are online at such time the war is won. Perk pts are used to "purchase" certain aircraft.
Some players simply "fly" for the thrill of air to air combat. Others group up to launch missions whereby bases are conquered. Each group reviles the other :D
It's a great game with many old timers and many new players who come and go. There's a rather steep learning curve to conquer though many folks are more than eager to lend a hand to newbies. There's also a Training Arena populated by Training Corps volunteers who will get you up to speed in short order.
Welcome aboard!

LOL! Thanks Guys.
5PointOh - You hit the nail right on the head....... my wife complains about my addiction to AA right now, and my all night sessions and scrims. She has actually pulled the leaving card before...LMAO! But she never left:( I am still trying to keep the kids off my gaming CP though.... they keep breaking things.
Sounds cool, I have not found a good flight sim in years. I have the complete flight system (5 button throttle, 8 button Joystick, rudders all programable), ATI, AMD 3700, 1 gig RAM, etc.. havn't updated for around 1.5 yrs though....I need to...
The monthly payments go to the dsn. mfg. firm? What about hosting servers etc?

Your monthly subscription is paid to Hitech Creations...the developers. HTC provides and maintains the servers. As long as you have a dial-up or better internet connections, you're good to go.
Your computer and joystick specs are more than adequate.

Dial UP!!! OMG, I would rather shoot myself if I had to go back to that....
No I got DSL 7 MB down 768K upload.

Do Squads host servers? Or is it all corporate based?

Everybody uses HTCs servers.

I think they still give a two week free trial. And please don't choose a zip code as your game ID.
-
i think what there missing up on the gameID part is when they pick an id for login they think its their online ID that everyone will see then when HTC pops up that window before you goto an arena they think thats the password
-
hi black cat, welcome to AH.
for starters, the game is a free download from the HTC website itself. you get a two week free trial with no credit card info or any important details, so you can just jump in and see how you like it. most of us play on HTC's online arenas, which can hold hundreds of people. it is also possible to host your own 8 player room in the free multiplayer mode (which is always free, even after the free 2 week trial ends, but is limited by the low arena numbers, and a lot of the young kids with no CC hang out there).
the game itself is quite simply the best flight sim out there. the graphics aren't quite as good as the IL2 series, but are always being updated, new planes and things added etc. the graphics aren't BAD though.
the flight model is unequalled, it's all made to be as accurate as possible. the gunnery and physics models are also top notch.
it's not as pretty as some game, but the gameplay is the best in any flightsim, civil or combat.
good luck! it's a fun game and you've got nothing to lose/pay for to download and even play it for 2 weeks. only cost is the $15 a month subscription, which is for the HTC maintained large online servers. free multiplayer (8 player head to head mode) as well as offline play are always free.
and again, welcome to the addiction :D

Thanks guys for the warm welcome, and the info. I am currently a founder of an Americas Army Clan that participates in TWL tournaments so time might be limited and I will have to schedule some time to get the full amount out of the 2 wks to make my decision (AA Servers are expensive). I have found online group gaming to be very rewarding and relaxing, and I love filght sims.
My Fav. used to be Secret Weapons of the Luthwaffe when they added that expansion pack to.....hell I can't remeber the actual game name but you probably know the one I am talking about. Last flight sims I played though were Heli ones like Longbow, Comanche...etc. But I miss the WWII fighters.
Hope to see a few of you guys in the sky soon.
PS- What voice overlay is the most popular? TS2, Ventrillo, .... any X-fire users?
-
lol yup the good ole days teamspeak you dont need that anymore black cat this sim game you can talk to everyone while in the game with out teamspeak
-
AH has built in VOX that works pritty darn good ... (providing a firewall or AV program doesnt mess yours up)
alot of us use TS for meetings and planning sessions .
"Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" tee hee your in for a suprise ... AH is a full on realism type flight model . but without the il2 nit picking temp, overspeed ,trim ,ect stuff you have to manage the whole time .
-
Sorry I forgot I got Janes WWII also.

That was a pretty cool box sim back in its day.
-
yup, AH has a very capable built in vox system. you press f12 to speak to those within a 10k range of you, and the t key to talk to those on your tunable voice radio channel (there are also 4 other radio stacks which can be tuned to many channels for private or public text comms)

I had no complaints of lag, nor any problem shooting down folks while Dial Up. I do enjoy DSL though.

One other thing to know, your 2 weeks STARTS the first time you log in, even if it's one of the free 8-man rooms---You can stay OFF-line and practice, get the hang of the commands/flight characteristics before you first try it online, so that you'll have a better quality 2 week evaluation

After something I have seen a lot of recently please shoot the guys with "red" icons only not the green !!
Any friendly fire and it's you that takes the damage. Had so many new players recently trying to ping me to death when they are taking off behind me.
