I have a 5 year-old DELL computer and i am having a few problems.
My major problem is that my computer freezes ONLY when i play this game....it's fine when on internet and stuff like that. Could somebody help with that?
My other problem is that my computer minimizes the game constantly while i play. I have McAfee (which someone said could be the problem..thats why i brought it up).
So if any one could offer some assistance just post on here and i'll keep track.
THANKS,
GOST208

turn your anti viruis off, then try the game. if the problem still happens then post the first third of your DXDIAG here so we can see what you have in your dell.
-
a 5 year old Dell sounds like your on the low end of the "technology" pool. The DXdiag report will tell the gurus here what you got, and the best setting they can suggest to get you running.
-
this may be a stupid question but...how do i turn McAfee off? Can't seem to figger idout
-
sorry i dont have McAfee so i cant give you a list of directions to turn it off. give this post some time and i am sure one of us have it or has had it and will be able to tell you how to turn it off.
do you know how to do a DXDIAG
-
negative sir..i do not know how to do that
-
click on start then click on run and type in DXDIAG and hit enter:aok
-
TY sir...(im taking back evrything i ever said about an L.T.A.R.) lol j/k
-
Specifically what info are you looking for in there? Ram and stuff like that?
-
save the report to your desktop, cut and paste the first third of the report on the boards. It will have CPU, video, sound, drivers, settings, types of hardware, all kinds of info about the workings of your computer.
-
:huh
-
ok...i saved all info to desktop. Now..what part of it do you need and how do i post it on here?
Which of these do u want:
System info
DirectX files
Display
Sound
Music
Input
Network
Im not very good with computers
-
ok lets do it this way. take and divide you DXDIAG in 4th so you have 4 parts. now we need the first 3rd of that. to do that just highlight it and right click and click copy. then run over here and open a new post right click in post and click paste. :aok
-
Put it this way.... you want all the hardware, up to and including SOUND and MODEM but not all the gobbeldy-gook that takes up the bottom 2/3s of the file. Start with everything down to (and including) SOUND and all the entries under there. Then include the next 3-5 lines of the heading after SOUND. We probably won't need it, but it shows us that you got everything.
90% of the time I notice SOUND is the last hardware entry in the file, which is why I say use that. Not always, but most of the time.

too much??? or not enough???
-
I think that's most of it!
-
At first glance, you have enough to run this game. you've got a decent CPU, 512MB RAM, and a sound card.
The reason you can't play the game well is your video card.
An X300 is a really really low-end non-gaming card. It just can't handle this game (or probably many other games either).
It depends on if you want to spend $60-$70 or not for a "newer" (but not "new) card to bring it up to the level it can run AH2, or if you don't want to.
-
Ya you are on the low end with this computer. It takes about 512 megs of ram just to run XP, and like krusty said the video card is a low end card, but the good news is you should still be able to get it to play. You'll have to turn everything down, and if you were a bit more computer savy you could tweak your computer a bit to get it to run a bit faster.
start the game and click on the "Video settings button" You may have to knock down your resolution to 800x600, but make sure your "max texture size" is down to 128, and that neither "pre-load" box is checked in the textures box. Click ok, and when the main screen pops back up again start the game in off line mode. Check and see how it runs. Its not going to be the prettiest, but it should be able to run.
-
Once offline, go into the graphics setup and:
Disable all skins
Disable weapons effects
Disable vehicle effects
Leave the range sliders at default first, and if it's still bad slide them to shorter range and try again.
Personally I don't think you can run it on an X300, but stranger things have happened.
-
Well if ya think i need a new video card then i am willing to pay whatever it takes. Any suggestions to what i need (video card wise)?
Cuz it seems to me that every time i up a perk plane my computer freezes up!! :furious  :furious  :furious :cry

On a 5 year old computer, that's not the attitude to take :D
You can put a high-end card in that rig and still not get too much performance because your FSB is at 533MHz (or less) or because of "this" or "that" that is bottlenecking your system.
For a system that old, go with a medium range card. These days look for a Ge6600 or a Radeon 9500 line. Something like one of those cards, that will still run AH, but won't cost you too much.
If you want the best gameplay, you'll need a computer that isn't 5 years old. So just spend what you need to keep this rig running, and save the rest up for a newer PC at a later time.
-
Ok. I will do that. I was hoping to get a new computer sometime next year. But really all i want is to be able to play the game. I'll be looking for one of those Video cards. Thanks for all yalls help. Maybe now i won't lose as many perkies...lol. Thanks again!!!!!!!!
