Title: Museum of Flight in Seattle, upcoming events
Post by: Brooke on July 16, 2007, 01:00:13 AM
As there are several AH pilots who live in the Seattle area, I thought I'd post upcoming talks by WWII pilots.  The Museum of Flight has several of them each year.  To me, it is excellent to hear the pilots talk of their WWII experiences, and they usually hang out afterwards for signatures.

The Museum of Flight page is here:

One upcoming event is:

"Fighter Aces Panel: The U.S. Army Air Force over the Pacific

Saturday, July 21, 2:00-3:30pm, William M. Allen Theater

Capt. Richard Fleischer: one of the first to fly the P-47 Thunderbolt in combat. 1st Lt. Nial K. Castle: a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. Capt. Ralph H. Wandrey: P-38 Lightning pilot out of Dobudura, New Guinea and a wingman for Maj. Richard I. Bong, America’s “Ace of Aces.” Meet these heroes and hear their incredible stories of derring-do and combat in the skies of the Pacific Theater."

Another upcoming event is:

"452nd Bomber Group Panel - Saturday, August 25, 2pm, William M. Allen Theater

Activated on June 1st, 1943 at Geiger Field (now Spokane Int’l Airport), the 452nd Bomb Group was one of 24 B-17 Heavy Bomber Groups that were stationed in England as part of the U.S. Army’s Eighth Air Force. The 452nd flew a total of 250 missions in the European Theater later participated in the Chow Hound missions to drop food to starving countries at the end of the War. Much later, one of its squadrons became the 728th Airlift Squadron, based at McChord Air Force Base. Meet a few of the pilots and crewmembers, old and young, who have flown with this famous group."

This one is interesting in that they tend to have panel discussions with fighter pilots.  This one is with 8th Air Force bomber crews.

I'm planning to attend the talk on July 21st.

I've invited Rabidrabbit, and I'd like to invite other Seattle-area AH folks to join us.  Up to about another 5 or so people, I can get you into the museum for free to attend the talk, and I offer to take you guys out to dinner (or, if you aren't hungry, at least for beer) after.

Roscoroo, Newman, are you guys interested?

Anyone else interested?

This thread isn't about the Evergreen Aviation Museum.   Shocking.

That's nifty.  By the way, Newman, what instrument do you play in your band, and what type of music do you folks play?
