The other day there was a bad fast Texas thunderstorm.
I tried getting to my baby in time but alas....a near lighting strike energized my coax fried the router and.....and......zapped my puter!!!:cry
I,m supremely depressed over it.:(
I took her to the pc hospital and im awaiting the news of house bad it really is.
im 99% sure the MB is toast. even tho its only a year old (asus A8n sli deluxe) its completly out of date. its all for socket 939 and i need socket 940
sooo ive picked out a new mb cpu and memory. But its still gonna be a few days till she is surfing the web and d/l pron again....not to mention being able to play any games.
I know its trivial to most but, its my baby. Just as my Harley is my other baby.
Guess ill kill some time taking my GF out on the town.....oh the inhumanity!!!

Tell me the pron is ok...
ANYTHING BUT THE PRON!!!!!! :cry :O :(

if it zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzffffffffft thru the cable modem and down thru the r45/firewire/usb .... then the mainboard is most likely Toast ,along with your modem and possiably routor .
if the power cord was still hooked up and it zzzzzzaaaaped thru there ussually the powersupply takes the whole hit and the mainboard will survive .
the harddrives should be ok if it wasnt connected usb with a usb modem hookup. no garrentee but thats ussually the case ..

Didn't you have a surge protector? Or did it just not help?

Should've told that to me when Freshman year of college a 500 Mb HD went south with a 3 year collection of porn gotten from dialup.
That was a depressing night.

A 'pute. How about a house?
Last summer a friends house in the counrty burnt down because power surges from electrical storms. Fused the circuit breakers.

I have computers, TVs etc, protected with this:
SurgeArrest® Essential
Essential surge protection for computers and home electronics.

It is really cheap insurance.

Looks good, I had it on a higher end surge protector or atleast I "thought" it was. everything else on the protector still functions. I think the main surge came thru the router since it was fried and it traveled down the cat5 patch cord to the pc.
Anywho I fired her up last night and I gotta say...DAYUM!!! its way faster now
amd dual core 6k cpu, 4gigs of memory and a asus crossfire MB
now im gonna have to upgrade my video cards.....but not today lol
