I have a rythmic delay in processing every three seconds or so. It manifests itself as a warp when I get in close combat but always occurs as I watch terrain go by.
Have a Geforce 8500 GT w/512MB,w/ 64X2 Dual Core AMD 2048MB system memory and Vista Home Premium.
{Alt} I
Frame rates ususally 50-60
Vid Mem 1325.4M Used 3.1 M Cnt=0
System mem 1024M Used 0 M Tex=120.4M
It seems like the video and system memory displayed in the ALT-I command doesn't show that I'm using my resources. A meg of RAM is missing and system mem is totally unused. Is something wrong?
I have a second system that connects via NetGear wireless (Comcast ISP). The first system is cabled directly to this modem. The second system is a GeForce 6150 LE w 256MB, 64X2 Dual COre AMD, 2048 system memory and XP.
Vid Mem 264.2 Used 48.1M cnt=0
System 1982.5 Used 830.1 Tex = 0
I am tempted to switch the video cards and hook the xp machine dirctly to the cablemodem and live with it. Just seems frustrating that a can't use the better machine to play the game.
While I do experience packet loss pinging either machine, there is no three second stutter on the XP machine.
I am open for your suggestions.

I'm just pulling things out of the air. These are my first thoughts...
Swap the vid card, leave ALL ELSE the same. Do it 1 piece at a time, so you know it was only that piece. I.E if you swap card and change connection at same time and it fixes it, you know it was one of the two, but not which one. So 1 at a time try swapping card, the way it's connected to the internet, pull 1 stick of ram, then pull the other stick of ram (having it not show up makes me worry about bad RAM).
If it's not hardware itself (that is, if you try all this and it still has the problem) then it's a software problem. It might be vid drivers, but not likely. If you swap the vid card this should go away. If it remains with the other vid card it won't be the driver (I don't think).
The last remaining problem is probably a service, setting, or configuration inside Vista itself. This is the toughest to weed out, as it could be so many things. It could be the simplest of processes that just runs a check for peripherals every 3 seconds (for just one example). Hell I once had rhythmic lag spike because my printer was off and shared, and somebody sent a print batch to it. It kept checking over and over to see when the printer was back online. Pretty messed up stuff.
Skuzzy's been doing a lot with Vista lately (much to his loathing). Perhaps calling him on the phone and having him run you through some of the most likely services/processes would be the most time-efficient method. The other method involves doing massive amounts of internet searching and problem solving.

ALT I doesn't give a true representation of what the ram and video are doing. Skuzzy has said that "how" they report the info between cards and ram is different, so don't base your info on that.
Is the delay a warp? or a screen freeze? If its rhythmic, I'd suspect a service or process pinging a server for updates. Check the list at the post for all the tips and tricks people have posted about "vista" You might find something there.

It takes a lot of effort to make Vista run the game smoothly. And, depending on the various drivers installed, it may never run the game smoothly. There is nothing we at HTC can do about it. It is the nature of the operating system.
NVidia has had a horrible time trying to get thier Vista drivers to work well, which does not help.

I've had very good luck running AH2 under Linux. If you search for "LINUX" in the "Hardware and Software" forum, you'll find a couple of threads by Nikitis and by me that detail how we did it.
I don't think we can expect Skuzzy or HTC to have much time to support Linux while Vista remains so troublesome, but if you are able to support yourself, you might give it a try. I know it's working for several individuals.
