Saw this posted by a guy with an incredible photo collection on another forum. A different looking scheme for a 1D
Late war F4U-1Ds from the Jeep Carrier USS Saidor. VMF-213 Hellhawks. All white tail and white stripes.

Ooh, neat! I've got 5 different birds to do. :D
Looks like pretty quick work, too. Fairly clean birds.
Any other pics?

WoHoo, more bent wing birds to watch fall in pretty pieces. :)

Anyone got a good RGB value for the USN gloss sea blue? I used to have one, but lost it after I had to format/reinstall my hard drive.
The one here: http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/colours/USA.html
Is WAY too light and gray

Only one I can find is in CMYK format, 22 22 0 78

Thanks, but I found one that works.

U.S.S. Saidor was commissioned on Sept. 4, 1945. Two days after the formal surrender of Japan in Tokyo Bay. Makes it a post-war scheme, yes?

Good question. Can someone confirm if those are the colors the squadron used before the end of the war?
-
I have pictures of F4us in that scheme as well and had researched it for possible use. It is definately post war unfortunately.

Ok, well, I'll stop then. Getting those stripes to look like was REALLY becoming a pain, anyway.
It's a shame all the more colorful F4U schemes are generally post-war.
