Beautiful! Think you could toss something together with a B-17 (Either 303rd skin) or a P-47 D-11?

Biggles, youre a bloody genious! I know beggers cant be chosers, but is there anyway you could get a more broad-side shot of the Jug? My girlfriend is wanting a new desktop background, and she knows I fancy the Jug.

With all the requests Biggles, you should start a backgrounds store.

Looks good.  Only one comment is on the shadowing.  You can notice where the light source is coming from by the shadows of the trees in the background (on the field).  However, the plane lacks a shadow.  If added the realism will look much much better.

yeah, it's what i've been thinking about. if you look at the tree's shadow though, it falls a long way., goes across the whole field and over the hedge.

i think the planes shadow would fall just off the left edge of the pic, but i may add a bit of a shadow on the left edge, we'll have to see :)

hehe, nah, i enjoy doing them for people. if i were to start a store i'd need to bump the quality up more. maybe someday, when i've learned more :) glad they seem to go down well though :)

Major Biggles, you and I are alike. The quality of the work is never good enough for profit, and we always enjoy doing it as favors because it's fun for us.

jack, for a first try, that's really good, well done!!!

i don't know how good your pc is, but you might want to turn up your texture size in AH, and also turn anti-aliasing on, if your PC is powerful enough. it will make the plane graphics much nicer.

as for your actual shot, one problem is that the background is very vivid. if you turned down the contrast and turned upa  the brightness a bit, it may help the kates blend in a bit better.

my first pic was very sucky, and it didn't blend well either, you'll learn :) it comes quickly. check out screenshotart.com, specifically the composites forum. they used to have great tutorials but they're down atm. they should be back up soon. take a lookaround that site, see if you can pick yp some hints ;)

wtg, it's a great first try! also, next time, try to take your pics in the film viewer, it allows you to get nicer camera angles :) press altR ingame instead of altS and it will record a film, then go to your aces high 2 folder, enter the films folder and watch the most recent one. open it up in fullscreen mode, get it to the angle you like, and press printscreen to transfer it into your image editor :)

you know how you change resolution/screensaver etc. by right clicking the background? i think it's in the advanced options there. i've got quite a high end vid card, with it's own driver setup and control centre stuff, so i can't be sure about other PC's, but i think i remember it being in the advanced options under the screen setup stuff

How's this one?
Title: Home Field, Screenshot Art
Post by: Major Biggles on July 19, 2007, 05:00:41 PM
not bad jack, but in future, i wouldn't advise using the lens flare, it just adds clutter. also, what image editing program are you using? when i first started i was using free stuff without a proper extraction tool, and it gave me nasty edges like yours (they're not straight, and all jagged)

once i got photoshop (even a cheap old version), it was much easier, faster and better looking. what are you doing atm? just erasing around the edges? if so ouch, i remember taking hours doing that too :D

the pen tool in photoshop is such a godsend

I'm using Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Digital Image Standard 2006 Editor. I also
have Gimp (where i got the flare from). And yes, I am erasing around the edges, but it doesn't take me hours.

yeah, the problem with paint is that it can't do layers, and it's eraser is a block, it's not soft.

try a google search for serif photoplus 6, it's free and far better than paint, and easier to use than gimp, which is nasty.

atleast that will help you, because it can handle layers, and won't give you nasty jaggies when erasing. good luck! you're learning quick :)

The ship should be blurred not the planes.  The right hand plane looks daft.

What happened to the torpedoes? By the way, the background still seems too bright. The items closer to the camera should be brighter.:aok

Post by: Fulmar on July 20, 2007, 05:26:27 PM
The ship a bit too blurry.  Ideally, you'd blur the ship just a hair and maybe blur the land in the back a hair more.

Also, don't rotate the plane on the left.  The shadowing depicted on it (since it's now on its side) would be incorrect.

I'm still using Major Biggles "Where The Eagles Soar" screen shot as my background, mainly beacause i love spitfires.

Jack16 IMO you need to make your shots look less blocky, They would make sweet screen shots
Title: Home Field, Screenshot Art
Post by: Solar10 on July 20, 2007, 05:37:38 PM
The blocky effect is because he does not have antialiasing on.  That will smooth out the edges when he capture them.

Actually Denholm, it's quite the opposite.

In picture taking, as well as real life,
Closer things are sharper, have more "color" and more "contrast"
Farther things are blurrier, have LESS color, and LESS contrast.

Basically it makes things closer look brighter and darker at the same time, and the background looks "washed out"

That's pretty much what I was saying. It's just hard for someone who doesn't work around doing this to describe it. I was just telling him what I saw from a viewer's perspective, not from a creator's perspective.

I don't wish to be picky, it's great work you have there Biggles but I do question the flames on the P47. That engine had a large turbocharger that was of course run by the exhaust. I don't think you would see exhaust flames like you would with a supercharged engine or a normaly aspirated one. I may be wrong on that though. You might want to check.

Word,

Mark
