A guy is interviewed by the FBI because he was reading a printout of an article at a coffee shop.
Seems like a problem that:
1. Someone thought it was suspicious that someone was reading a printed out web page while drinking coffee, and
2. That folks in the FBI agreed enough that they sent two field agents to interview and quasi-threaten this guy.
Really, Eagler and friends, everything is ok? Seriously, this is reasonable?
I'm going to have to disagree, things are getting worse, and it's astonishing that the people who I would expect to object most vehemently to these increasing casual intrusions of government into private life are being so sanguine about things.

The site is so damned slow it's ridiculous. Not waiting all day for it to load.
-
Site loaded fine for me... no delay.
-
Finally loaded.
1. Who knows what the person who called the FBI told the FBI. You have NO idea, and neither does anyone else, except the FBI and the person who called them.
2. An FBI agent says "you don't want trouble with the FBI", and that's some sort of threat?
Call out chicken little, the sky is surely falling.
-
So I'm supposed to get indignant over some leftie claiming he was interviewed by the F B I? Assuming my doubts are unfounded and his story is true, so what? How were his rights violated? If you went to the trouble to report soneone behaving in a suspicious and possibly threatening manner I think you'd expect our tax paid public servants to check it out, wouldn't you?

couldnt get the article to load.
that said, i remember when we used to think that the soviets were evil because they got their people to turn other people in for subversive or non approved thoughts or activities.
it should be kept on a very short leash.
VERY.

Indeed they should be kept on a short leash. Much shorter in many ways than they have been in the past when their gestapo tatics resulted in the deaths of many women and children in Waco TX. However, they are also responsible for preventing terrorism and so have to do some watching and investigating. IF they checked this guy out bacause some idiot didn't like what he was reading so what? Where's the harm? Hardly in the same ballpark as storming a church and shooting up the place.

Oh it's obviously a true allegation. You can believe everything on the internet after all. If it's in writing it's got to be true.

"Those who would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither."
I think that's a paraphrasing of something Theodore Roosevelt said. Or maybe Benjamin Franklin.
The "right-wing crazies" and the "left-wing cut-n-runners" are fighting like a hatred-spewing divorced couple, forgetting that there are a lot of us sitting in the middle, shaking our heads and hoping/praying for a little sanity. SOON.
The irrationality of it all is getting to be a little much, and if it wasn't for the boiling frog syndrome, I would think I'd been dropped in to some wacked-out psychotic dystopian novel.
-
Just an outsiders perspective:
You are being told to sacrifice freedoms. You built your whole country on the belief that you had certain rights and freedoms..so how's that working out for you lately?
Seems to me that you are on a pretty uncertain road right now. Careful that Georgicus Bushius doesn't decide that the Laurel (SP?) Wreath Crown isn't the appropriate Presidential adornment. The similarities are astounding.
Just one Canadians opinion mind you. By the way, hows the Whitehouse looking lately? :D (sorry couldn't resist the historical Jab...I really do like you guys as neighbors....just quit coming over for a cup of beer!)
cheers,

I didn't really care for your smug attitude RTR. You only see one side of what happens here in this country. You only hear what the media, a very left wing organization, very liberal organization, has to say about it.
I guess if you were a voting citizen of this country your voiced opinions of how we do things here would matter but since your are not, bug off :D

Guess you've never watched or listened to Fox News. Liberal? Nah. I'll agree that there is no news out there that doesn't seem to lean one way or the other, but it's definitely not all left.
Apparently rationality and moderation don't sell, just sniping and feces-throwing, irrational rants, etc. etc. It's a shame, but we are, after all, Americans. We like our entertainment big.
-
It's a what "IF" story. What if your FBI gets a call from someone they know or don't know saying "check this out".
FBI ignores it as nothing worth worrying about or it as a prank call but 2 days later BOOOOOOMMMMMM.
You guys would have a pink watermelon as to why this "lead" wasn't followed up. The silver platter would have to have bells on it let alone a head.
Your taxes pay for this to be followed up and it was. Money went, in this case, to what it is provided for.
The guy being questioned reasonable feels a little affronted. After all he's no threat to national security and whats the harm in reading. You'd think after he's had time to reflect on the situation he'd be thinking "well done FBI" but......... no. He's thinking this'll help me with my Journalism University.
No big deal folks.

Absolutely correct. Why do we feel the need to live in one extreme or another? It's bad for progress.

I think the problem lies more in the fact that the call was made by some fear-addled soccer mom that has been pummeled by the sensationalist media into seeing al-Qaeda operatives in every dark corner of the local coffeshop.

The rest of the story:

The guy looks like an A-rab. Nuff said.

Yay for partisanism. The extreme left is screaming impression, the extreme right that there's nothing to worry about and it's all an exaggeration of the "liberal" media.
It may not indicate there's a problem NOW, but I AM concerned as this can VERY easily get worse.

That's what I find most disturbing. A population that turns on itself is more easy to control, ala Stalinist Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. Accuse your neighbor before they accuse you.
