A US police dashboard video shows a WWII-era plane making an emergency landing on a Wisconsin highway.
William J. Leff was flying the 1946 North American T-6G plane to an airshow with his son when it developed engine problems.

I have some questions (that no one here can answer, probably.)
Why does the first statie pull over the lucky car? Why does he run after it when he pulls it over?
Why does the second statie have his hand on his gun? Are people that land on roads normally dangerous?

1st - Probably to either secure a witness statement or get assistance blocking the road until back-up arrives.
2nd - With the first trooper so far away, the remaining trooper is alone with a plane and at least two unknown persons. The plane could have come from anywhere and could be carrying anything. How is the trooper to know? Better to be safe than sorry.

that is 100% legal to do but only if it an emergancey you suppose to fly infront of cars wave wings pull back power and land

Because it might be the terrorists! or the commies!
besides that, I kinda figure it was because the car likely went around the patrol car and failed to stop. So I imagine he wanted to yell at the driver. The copper with the gun was going to go for a pilot wound kill on the runway but the fast thinking pilot hit .ef first.

That's assuming you still have power.

Many years ago on an early spring morning I had an early morning flight (7:00AM) with a new student, I was the CFI, out of Colts Neck NJ . Just after departing the airport traffic area, there was bang, and a lot of shaking . “I got it”; I said and called for the emergency checklist, this would keep my student busy looking through the POH while I went through my memorized version.
The Cessna 150 had blown a jug. Lots of oil on the windshield and airframe. I pulled the power to idle but left what was left of the engine running, just in case, once I decided to land on Hwy#18 and had the spot made I cut the fuel off and went through the emergency briefing with my student.
The good news was at that time on a Saturday morning there is not much north bound traffic on hwy # 18, everyone is heading south towards the beach. The bad news was as soon as I appeared in the rear view or side mirror of an automobile that driver would hit his breaks.
Lucky thing everyone in NJ speeds, they were all doing 75 and I was only doing a little over 45 with full flaps and into a head wind. It was a good landing , no bounce.
Waited about 20 minutes (time before cell phones) before the first State Police car showed up, but within two minutes of the first police car, the first fire truck rolled in, followed soon after by a second , third and fourth, fire truck(all from different towns) and then 3 ambulances, one form each of the nearby towns.
A mountain of paper work from the State, Feds and of course each of the towns that had responded to the report that “a plane had crashed” followed by several hours of windshield cleaning and of course the flight school mechanic removed the engine and (4 hours later) replaced the engine. I got permission to take off of Hwy 18 and fly the 7.2 miles back to Colts Neck.
Take off of course was preceded by NJ State Police blocking off two miles of roadway in both the north and south bound lanes. I was airborne in just over 1000 feet I think.

So I am to assume the terrorists intended to land a rare warbird on a highway and step out with a gun to shoot at passing cars?
Jeez. I'm glad this time it was a false alarm.

That was in case the Space Shuttle needed an emergency landing strip while you were taking off.

simple state trooper knew plane coming in was waiting for it with lights on and white car passed his crusier when he was blocking road for plane to land. passing a stopped trooper blocking road no no

this about same as when i was pulling 15' hieght sign to NH from shop in NY. had to pay for police escort thru bridges so i could go thru middle which were high spots that we knew were 15's or tad higher.4 times on trip had people pass police blocking lanes behind me . all 4 times cars got tickets.
Look at video when cop pulls out in middle highway only van in front of trooper then white car passes.

looks to me like the 2nd officer is turning up the volume of his radio, not un-snaping his gun but the vidoe is dark and hard to see.

" Are people that land on roads normally dangerous? "
drug transporters sometimes use out of the way country roads to land(as opposed to an airport)
hence planes that don't land at an airport would be under some suspicion.
-
I was at the Fond Du Lac Co. fair watching the demolition derby when the plane flew over. I pointed it out to my brother and said it is a good thing he is close to the airport . I guess he was'nt close enough.
From what I have heard, the police did not know he was going to land on the highway. They were on sight for a broken down truck or something. He was very lucky to land safely because that highway has very heavy traffic.
As far as having his hand on his gun, that is probably a force of habit. Many officers have their hand on their gun whenever they are pulling over a car. If I were the officer I probably would have done the same.

No you are to ASSUME nothing, the same as the police officers did. They had zero info as to plane type I am sure at the time of the call.

First of all the pilot would have radioed his troubles in to control and let them know he was landing on a road. The control tower or whoever is in charge would have let the troopers know where the plane was coming in and the rest was a bit of luck getting their in time.
The trooper left his car (probably with the e-lights on) to block the traffic from the plane. He then ran after the "lucky car" because he didn't pull over when he saw the trooper in his rear view mirror instead kept driving (that's a big no-no, their getting a ticket.)
Its hard to see the second trooper's belt, but he may have been making sure the snap was secured on his side arm after getting out of his car. But I would bet that was actually his radio and he was adjusting the volume. If you notice he has a chest strap that goes from his left hip over his right shoulder. The extension mic is attached to his right shoulder with the strap. I wear one of these radios at work and prefer it to hang off my left hip when i'm driving because of the seat belt and the center console.
