I'd love to hear your opinion. I myself prefer the IC.
-
C's perked, D's not, and the -1 out turns the both nicely.
Unless your really into mud moving grab the -1.
Moving mud then the C is better if you can afford to lose the perks.

Depends on the situation.
If I'm just expecting to drop ords and then assist taking down enemy fighters I'll take the 1D. If I expect to be strafing (town, etc) I'll take the Charlie.
Otherwise I'm in the 1A unless it's blocked by ENY (turns like the 1, climbs and accelerates like the 1D)
-
I still have to take the C-hog from time to time, since my accuracy still smells of rotten tuna.
-
If you're going to take a perker...take a U-4. Trust me.
Mmmmh...Cors-airgasm...
-
Yea, the 8 player people often have the F4U-4 at their disposal... unfortunately.. at their DISPOSAL. I don't see it used properly often, and given my skill, I try not to use it often so as not to insult anyone :p
-
The F4U-1A's the ultimate dogfighter however, if you can't access the F4U-4.

I'm trying to figure out where the laughability in that statement comes from.

Same.

I prefer the 1d been flying it a little this month and have done better than I would have in a C. The C because of the big guns makes me lazy i'll end up with 10+ kills then get greedy and get caught out.
C hog always seems slightly heavier to me but its probably my imagination.
As for the F4U1A I hate that plane seems worse than a D for turning.
Again prob my imagination
-
Depends.
If you remember to drain your wing tanks the 1A will turn inside any of the other Hogs (1 included, although the margin is not significant) so it's most definitely your imagination.
-
In addition to being much uglier, the C-hog really is heavier. Those hispanos really give the Hog some extra weight.

the problem is it takes forever and a day to bother with draining 75% out of the left wing and 75% out of the right wing......rather take the -1 up with 75% and drain the measly 10%+/- out of each wing tank and get in the fight faster :D
who needs a bubble canopy anyway .......

What's your patrol altitude? I can usually drain my wings down to 1/8 fuel each by the time I reach mine (15k) from sea level bases and am cruising on my main tank before I even reach target.
-
Ok y'all git ready to laugh....
I actually like the f4u-1...
yeah its older and such, but to me it just handles well.
But I also am enfatuated with the f4u1d as a fighter.
And to answer the above question about fuel burning, IMHO I climb out on my drop tank, then (in an f4u-1) burn my wings down to say 1/8 - 1/4 in each then flip over to my main that way I have a small reserve in the wings just in case. In the F4U-1D I don't have a choice, climb on drop tanks then fight on main.

it varies, Saxman.
most times I am prob 8k or lower....unless winging with squady we might go to 10K or 12K.....
I just prefer the Birdcage........it is more mindset than anything, but I feel more comfortable flying the -1 than the -1A.......I have not really gave the -1A the flying time to adjust to any differences ( fuel load out options? ) so there it is.
I like the load out options of the F4U-1 , I think they should have made the F4U-1A have the same loadout options in regards to fuel loads....they did not, and I don't fly it for that reason.....I am sure it is a great plane..but I am stubborn like that :)
