Title: Assists
Post by: BennyBeaver on July 25, 2007, 12:36:53 PM
Heres the scenario:

You are on the tail of a 262 in a p51d at an altitude of 14k feet. You manage to shoot off his wing spiraling him to him doom, just as that a stupid kid swoops down shooting him once, and when he hits the ground...BOOM an assist.

scenario 2:

You are on the tail of a bf110 g-2 you shoot the elevators and the stabilizer he shoots up and then down. Just as that a plane that was also shooting at the same plane shoots it once...assist.

scenario 3:

You are on the tail of a fighter shoot him a couple times, little damage...there are 15 other enemy fighters near by. A little freak comes down at the one u are shooting at. ASSISt. when there was 14 other open targets you could attack.

scenario 4:

You catch a plane on fire, you think aww its ok hes gonna die. You break off. 30 seconds later it says assist. :O

We need to make it that once a wing comes off if someone else shoots at him then he dies that you will still get the credit for the kill. Same with the fire, after he smokes no one can touch him and if they do shoot him down, you get the kill. We need to get fair credit instead of noobs coming down and getting it with no hard work involved.

Hmmm...I think it's less the case of others stealing the kill and you not putting enough lead on target.   I've got a little over 480 kills and only 42 assists (most assists I've had in a long time).  I make sure that when I fire, there is no way anyone else but me is going to get the kill.

I'm with ack-ack on this.   There are times I have to coax myself to keep shooting to ensure I get the kill.

Don't break off.  Just because a plane is on fire doesn't mean it's dead.  You may have just punctured a fuel tank and then someone comes in and does what the host considers to be catastrophic damage and gets the credit.

Which again brings me to point out about the shooter.  Aim for the vital spots on the plane and you'll get the kill 99.99% of the time.  Depending on the angle, I am for the engine/cockpit area, wing root or tail section.  Good solid bursts in those areas will almost always guarantee that you get the kill and not someone else.   Solid hits to the engine with cannons or even .50 cals (solid hits as in hitting at the convergence point, where max damage is inflicted) is usually enough to make the plane go BOOM!  Same for the cockpit area, solid hits here is usually enough to make the plane explode or seriously wound the pilot.  The same is also true with the wing root and tail section.  Solid hits there will remove the wing or tail section.

So when I shoot the entire wing or tail off and he's spiraling to his death you're suggesting I shouldn't break off, but instead give up all of my E to ensure my kill?  These exact scenarios have happened to me several times where someone else swooped in leaving me with the assist.

Ack-Ack, with all due respect I doubt you would follow them down either.

With all due respect, I think you need to go over what I wrote again.

I said just because the plane is on fire, doesn't mean the plane is dead.   Some were complaining how they caught a plane on fire and then someone else comes in for the kill while the first guy thought he had the kill.  My suggestion was to make sure it was dead, instead of just assuming it was because it was on fire.  That is why I recommended aiming for the vital spots, as well aimed bursts more than likely will cause catastrophic damage, ensuring you get the kill not the other guy.

I've never had a kill stolen from me, as they either explode on the first burst or I remove a wing, tail or wound the pilot.  But as with all things, YMMV.
