Title: vincent black lightning 1952
Post by: lazs2 on July 26, 2007, 07:55:23 AM
I never get involved in music threads because... well..  I am not that much into music.

Richards Thompson's Vincent Black Lightning is a goody tho.  I have the Reckless Kelly version and it is good but thompsons acoustic guitar can't be beat.

http://www.rtlist.net/listen.htm

For us who are pretty much tone deaf.. this thing burns through.. the lyrics really work for me... even tho it is a limey writing about limeys but...

Who could not like a 52 Vincent?   Who could not like the line "red hair and black leather, my favorite color scheme."

or... " I see angles on ariels in leather and chrome.  Swooping down from heaven to carry me home."

I don't know... even tho it is limey.. it speaks to a time when I rode.    You know there is no electric start Vincents and you know this is a bad boy and you know they ain't wearing helmets...  or hanging out at starbucks.

I liked that. I don't admire a thief or a thug but do fearlessness, even when it's misguided.

never had a vincent.. had some limey bikes... beezers and trumpets and a squarial (ariel square four)

They had personality...  most of it bad... If the vincent was as reliable as most brit bikes of the fifties and sixties you probly couldn't keep it running long enouh to get killed but.. they were well finished and cool looking.

I had a BSA single that was a man killer.. when it ran.. it was a bear.  A real thumper.

Trumpet Angus. :)

The Beezers and Trumpets made some cool looking chops. Easy to work with with what we had at the time.
I rebuilt a Beezer chop for a friend in the last few years and had to keep the damn thing inside of the shop to keep the wannabe buyers from pestering the crap out of me. I even put a "Not For Sale" sign on my scoot and it when I rolled them outside. It was a no go..........."Are those bikes for sale?"
:rofl

my 2 Triumphs were bolth great bikes .. even the '59 full chopper w/the girder always ran good . my pain in the tail bike is my early RD 350 yamaha,  that thing loves to foul plugs and stop charging . its also the only bike ive ever gotten a Ticket on ...had the headlight off while trying to baby it home after one of its famous I'm not charging for you today bouts.

I had two preunits and a few later trumpets.  they were fine but cramped and with very poor electrics that were not easy to get around.   I have found that the real weak link in all brit stuff was the electrics and the clutches..

The cars you could convert to delco stuff and get rid of the lucas demon but the bikes were not easy.. they had a magneto that was not easy to get rid of.
