Title: Nike Fires Michael Vick
Post by: rpm on July 27, 2007, 06:47:57 PM
I'm far from being a PETA member, but dogfighting sickens me. Apparently it sickens Nike as well. They just cancelled Vick's contract. NFL.com has quit selling his merchandise along with several other national sports retailers.
The NFL has ordered him to stay away from Falcons training camp as well.

I wonder what his morals clause looks like. Hopefully the Falcons can revoke all bonuses and make him repay what he has recieved. This slug deserves to be dropped into a fighting pit naked and forced to take on 2 0r 3 of those dogs with his bare hands. That's about as fair and humane as what he was doing.

Dogfighting and cockfighting are amusement for the sick and derainged.

Good. Hope this is just the begining for that piece of trash.

The commissioner seems to want to clean the mess up. He told our local scumbag thug, "Pac Man" Jones, that he couldn't come to training camp.
I wish the team would dump his sorry bellybutton like Tex Schramm used to dump
Dallas Cowboys when they violated the team rules.

If he is guilty, I hope they feed him to pit bulls.....

If not, he deserves total exhoneration.....Let's let the courts decide.

God, I hate vick, I can't believe I am saying this.

I'm glad Nike did this, but I think it's the only 'justice' he'll see.

I've tried NOT to follow the news on this, but I bet he gets off.  The last bit I caught on the story was that he had no idea what was going on on his property.  Sounds like a good defense:  big shot athlete, lots of time away from home, sponsorship obligations and such, leaves property manager in charge (who also has no idea what's going on), wild packs of dogs invade property, kill each other, blah, blah.

The grand jury did not agree with you.

They might play the race card and get him parole

I'm sure the Falcons owner will try to pull some strings

The indictments site witnesses that place Vick at the scene of the fights as well as collecting the winnings.  I'd be very suprised if he isn't convicted.

If the Titans cut him they're on the hook for the salary cap hit.  They're just waiting for the NFL to step in after the litigation is over.

if a 'star' is convicted then they should be faced with the same punishments as the common guy.

Vick will still walk away from this with more money than most of us will ever see regardless of what happens to him.

Frankly I agree with rpm...

cockfights and dogfights are also big money and culturally acceptable in many places including my culture.

while I personally find the practice unappealling I see nothing wrong with it and don't see how it's the government's or anyone's business what people do with their chattle.

this is but another sign of how soft and intolerant we as a society are.

what I find appalling is that some people condemn the practice of animal fighting and are more concerned with the life of a dog or a fowl which die in a very natural manner and yet the practice of infanticide is perfectly acceptable.

some of you guys need to re-examine your values.

everybody has their own morals Storch.. I generally don't chime in on political or religious debates.  If you want to know what mine are get to know me personally.  We might not always agree but, generally, I'll respect your right to your own opinion.

The difference between the NFL now and back then is purely the media attention it garners.  There were thugs playing ball in the 60's and 70's, it just wasn't a hot story back then.  I was watching the NFL channel the other day and they were talking about a running back that took a heckuva hit from a DB.  The back was waiting outside the locker room for the DB to come out so he could whoop his butt.  He stayed there until the team bus had to leave and the guy never came out.  We laugh about it now, but if something like this happened today the back would be painted as a dangerous meathead that needed to be suspended for excessive violence.  Just a different era IMO.

I think the only way he is going to get off is if Emmit Smith is correct and they are using Vick to get more people involved with the sport.  If they give him a plea deal that if he gives x amount of names of others involved, he will walk free.  Other than that I think he is going down.  This isn't a POS DA "Duke LaCrosse" that is pressing charges, it is the Federal Govt.  I am quite sure they have sufficient evidence before pressing charges.

I don't find it acceptable.  I agree though, the irony is a sad statement on just how misguided many  are.

LOL....convicted and punished before trial...love the media.  The Don Imus situation was borderline overblown.  This is incredibly unnerving.  Then again both organizations have a "reputation" to keep so I can see their point.  If Vick is guilty he should get the full punishment allowed, none of this Paris Hilton crap.  If not, he's screwed anyway reputation wise and there will always be those who believe he did it(OJ?)

The problem with that is that most these dog have no human aggression.
True fighting dogs are only dog aggressive,I've raise bullterriers and Staffordshire bull terries for 30 years now and not 1 of my dogs showed any signs of aggression.

I don't agree with Storch,I would never fight an animal,I raise them for the show ring and other legal dog sports.

Vick,if guilty should be made an example of,he has it all, money, fame and a life style. Why would a high profile person have to stoop so low.

When I saw the CNN coverage, the videos of the dog fights,it made me sick.

Spent an hour the other day listening to the 3 liberal guys on ESPN radio do verbal backflips trying to excuse him.... you don't notice such things until ya listen to their take on Augusta, or Rush (when he did MNF) or John Rocker
