-
I have to say I've flown with these guys and they are very knowledgeable, and down right nice chaps to boot!!! So if you like to fly any of the F4U models then give them a holler!!
-
Yeah.... but do they fly Eastern or Central times?

DOH :huh :O Just found the site for the VMF-251 "The Buccaneers" (http://vmf251-buccaneers.netprism.net/) and see my old buddy FONE, the goat roper from TN is there!
:aok Great guy imho.

We meet at 8pm EST and 7pm CST, so you can take your pick. ;)
Most of what you need to know about us is at our site, although it IS a little out of date. I keep meaning to get back to that. :D

CrazyOwl.
Iam estren time.. I think :/
Iam in a squad already but I can fly with anyone just look for me in the arenas or let me kow your callsign to look for.
-
Our main squad night is currently Saturday 8pm Eastern US time / 7pm Central. We also generally gather Wednesdays during the same time. I mostly fly weekends of late, but can try and make it up Wednesday. We fly Rooks, primarily in the LW arenas.
Our main ride is the F4U-1A with hops in the -4 if we need some extra uberness, and the -1 if the others are unavailable, as we're predominantly an air-to-air squad (1A is simply better suited to strict air to air combat than the 1D). We generally use the Charlie and 1D if we're expecting to do air-to-ground work or intend to drop iron before mixing into the furball.
We have 8 active members on the roster and are looking to expand. Ideally I'd like to be able to get ops going with at least a dozen pilots in the air at once (so the high-end target is going to be 16-18 to allow for no-shows/etc).
-
Sounds good. Ill try to look for you whenever iam around in any of the 2 lw arenas. Got a question. I use to fly the A1 and then I jump to the D. I hear that both of them are the same in speed and firepower exept the aditional ordenance in the D.
I know the A1 seems to turn better that the D but for me both do the same. I also know that the A model have more fuel tank available. So question is is the A and D same in speed and climing with no ordenance and same fuel. and turning ability.
No question in the -4 know is beeter than anything only hate to loose points when I get kill.
and C the cannons.

F4U-1A is actually a good deal faster, (by 25-50mph at altitude. 1A clears 412mph at 20,000ft, 1D I think maxes at 375) and is the superior turner of the 1-series Hogs (only marginally so over the -1, but enough to make a slight difference vs the 1D)
-
cool. Ill give him a try again, see what I can get up there. Ill look for you to fly your wing if that ok. I think i saw you a couple of times in TA.
-
VMF-251 is still recruiting F4U pilots. In addition to work in the MA, we'll also be starting to fly Snapshots and Scenarios wherever Hogs are required. We've got a good crew and whether green or experienced are looking for anyone with a love of the Bent Wing Bird.
-
whats the name of the squadron and what name you have in game to look for U guys.
-
We're VMF-251 The Buccaneers. My handle is Saxman
-
what time you have and what country you guys normaly are.
Iam est. time and probably will be tonight at 8pm all night.
What arena normaly. And is there a way to look to you guys from the lobby. cause everytime I put a name that is in any arena from the lobby it say that is not on.
-
whats The Buccaneers stand for. is that was a real squadron name?
-
We fly Rooks. Our two main squad nights are Saturday and Sunday at 7pm CST (8pm EST) however there's generally one or two of us on throughout the week in the evenings. We had 5 on last night participating in the Rabaul Snapshot (that reminds me...I need to "create" the squad in the SEA arena...).
Most of the time we're in one of the two LW arenas, however occaisonally will pop up in MW.
-
Crazy. Good flying with you today. The squad greatly enjoyed having you along.

Funny, I've been saying that about the entire TOUR for me. :D

*Bump*
So... What kind of squad flying can peeps expect to see in VMF-251? Semi-Regimented to the point you're in the AAF again?
Strict by the book stuff?
Laid back grab a partner and dance?
Might be tempted to go back to the Hog if unit cohesiveness is good.
Rook eh? :(
Damn shame... :cry

From what I've seen of them they are pretty good buncha guys that just wanna have fun. Some are in the learning stage but they sure enjoy flying together. IMHO, that's half the battle, You can always learn to dogfight but it's sometimes hard to fly with like minded guys.
Ref...rooks a country is a country. It's who you fly with thats important.
-
We're looking to build cohesiveness as a unit. That being said we've been a bit looser than when first started, (we used to meet in the lobby, take off together, try and fly close formation en route, etc) in part because of the flakiness of the C/O getting his butt online, (in my defense, RL has been kicking my bellybutton in a number of ways) however I'd like to get back to being a bit more regimented.
Generally we do try to lift together, however some circumstances that's obviously not always possible. We had a good hop last night where we ended up tangling with half the Nit airforce on Sm Pizza and managed to get everyone home. :D
-
You guys got any day of the week for a traning fly or something so we can se how we do.
If you guys keep flying the F4U and also flying together Iam considering in joining. If I need to pass something Ill do it.
What time ou normaly fly, also I work in advertising so my time scheduel is very mix. but Ill always try to fly in weeks for 1 or 2 hours a night.
-
We were using Wednesday nights as a training night, although due to schedule issues during the week there wasn't generally weren't many of us on.
Our "official" squadron nights are Saturdays and Sundays at 8pm EST/7pm CST (sort of a, "can't get a consensus on which is best so screw it we'll make it both" thing, lol). However we join up any time there's a couple of us on, which there's usually SOMEONE on, especially in the evenings, throughout the week. As I mentioned before, we also intend to begin regularly participating in scenarios and snapshots requiring F4U drivers.
Really, the only important criteria we have is a love of the Corsair, and an interest in teamwork. We've never established any sort of structured "try out."

I like the hog but i'm not a subscriber.
-
Ok, make that two requirements.
