Title: 8" gun/SB bug

ive noticed for awhile now. when shooting cruiser 8"  or SB, might even include 5" guns. That most of time it fires normal, but  it will shoot blanks.

normal firing u see the small smoke trail of shells as they leave n travel
from the gun, but times the smoke trail will be missing and u just see the
shell dots. When that happens u get no hit flash or splash,  this will happen for several shots then it goes back to normal.


also noticed, when in a SB 8", the shells sometimes do not go straight where ur aim is. sometimes the shell goes off the left or right of aim +,
very annoying. ive seen it goe to 1 side of the + by as much as a half
inch.

I was under the impression they had done away with the smoke trails on 8" guns.:huh
Have not seen any ever since the redone terrain fiasco. Anyone care to correct me on this? :confused:

trails are fainter but they are there.  more pronounced right after u
fire them, and fade out soon after in flight.

Another issue that i seen with 8" guns is targeting the SB's in land mode, the range sometimes jumps around once u are close or are hitting it.  I mean it jumps 2k sometimes.  If u move a touch left or right its back to the correct range.  When u dead nuts on it, the range jumps 1-2k and the shells then go over it.

ive noticed that range numbers go haywire sometimes up n down  in spikes.

That's because you're trying to hit a ridge.... You miss the ridge and they go past it and keep flying until the hit the ground way behind it. It's like shooting at the tips of a picket fence... If you hit, you hit... If you miss, the bullet keeps going well past the target until it hits the ground a long ways behind where you aimed.

I've everything maxed on my video card, and cant see an SB splash beyond 9k....which makes it utterly useless to me

Krusty, it does it on its own when u are honed in on the SB.  No joystick input at all.  If u move it just a touch left or right of the SB it automatically goes back to the range u were at.  If u are just short of the SB, its fine, doesn't jump.  Only when u got it dead nuts it does it.  I end up getting it by the blast radius, 20 shots later, not 20 shells.

Glad Whels brought this up.  Thought it was just me.  The jumping ranges
in E mode have gotten to the point almost impossible to consistently hit
target.   Ranges will jump 2k to 4k with not vertical imput from controler.
I'm using CH Fighterstik and know I'm not getting any spiking.

This has been happening for some time now. A few years ago when I was commanding ground forces for one of the scenarios I brought it up. Was confirmed by Jordi but nothing was ever done about it.
