How does someone kill you instantly at 13k, with flak.  Just wondering how this is done or how you set up the gun to do this.  I was recently killed at 13k instantly...no plane damage, just dead, by ack from a ship.

5" guns from a carrier or cruiser essentially just killed the pilot. when that happens you end up in the tower.

It was probably a luck auto gun shot not a player.

First of all I doubt it was 13K but regardless the player manned 5 inch guns on the CV's have a long range, are relatively accurate in their aim, and have proximity fuses that ignite the ack when it's close to your plane.  The result is you go poof.

Relative to auto-ack, while they don't seem to reach much beyond 7-8K in horizontal distance, they can reach over 20K vertical but actually getting hit by one is rare (although it does happen).

If you did not get a kill message that x shot you down, you were killed by auto-ack, not a gunner. It happens. Ship auto-ack will not fire at you if you are below 3K.

i once had a newU that shot me in a vertical 17k up..... fortunenatly i dropped mah bombs and cv go boom.

suprised how a newU could do that...:confused:

Thanks for the info guys, Yes I was coming in on lances from the top at between 13k-12k.  I was in LA7.  I did get a Killed by person message, dont remember who it was and really dont care to much who it was, just more how he did it.  I didnt think ack guns on ship could kill you instantly that far out.  I figured you might get plane damage but not an instant kill.

Just rememver one thing Bronc,there is no such thing as a dumb question,only dumb answers. Most ppl here dont mind helping when they can. This is a great community with lots of helpfull ppl around, ask away. :)
