Two screenshots taken from the film viewer, about 2 seconds apart.
I know the viewer doesnt capture everything but I still cant explain how this occured.
I'm in a Yak T HO'ing the 51 with 37mm just out of picture.
I see one ping on his port wing -
(http://www.eel.homechoice.co.uk/pingport.jpg)
then see his starboard wing drop off -
(http://www.eel.homechoice.co.uk/damstar.jpg)
Pretty sure he had no previous battle damage as he wafted over field at 13k with 6k alt advantage over the only red guy in the area i.e. me, but didnt engage until I was flying in ever decreasing circles chasing a spit 16.
-
Yep it's been crazy like that for the last couple of weeks.
-
Clearly the cannon round traveled through the wing through the fuselage and ended up exploding in the right wing. :lol
Only thing I can think of is maybe lag? Perhaps in your film and on your game screen when playing his was left 20 feet more on his computer and when the hit response registered on his computer it sent info back to the server saying right wing damage while your computer showed left wing damage.
-
Im sure it is lag too, but the question I have is... ummm What difference does it make? I mean, the guy lost a wing and went down didn't he?:huh
-
Heheh :) That would explain it but I thought it worked slightly differently in that my FE sends all the info via the server to the other player?
So in this case my FE sends 'you have just been hit in the port wing with 37mm, for you the war is over' to his FE and it reacts accordingly?.
Fugitive yeah, it all ended well except I nearly collided with a wing that from my perspective, shouldn't have been there.
I agree its all been a bit different since the last update.
-
That would be my guess. Lag can do some funny things. I've hit wingtips and seen the plane explode like I'd hit the pilot, and I've hit the tail and seen the engine start smoking.
I've also had the damage issue me a pilot wound with no holes on the fuselage, and start an oil or radiator leak, then when I land theres no holes anywhere near where any related systems would be.
Just be glad it actually registered the damage someplace :)
-
It might be that the "shot" info hits a certain place and time in the "vitual world", instead of the "port wing" of such and such an aircraft. That way by the time your FE info get to the other players machine his FE says he was a bit more to the left and so send the "starboard wing off" info from his FE.
Luckily you can't take damage from parts off or other planes, but the noise scares the heck out of ya !
-
Looking at that last picture brings up a clue. Notice the tracer trail on the left, lower middle of the screen. That one seems to be coming in at a different angle, tracing it backwards puts the right wing in his guns. Perhaps that's when you took some damage there. It doesn't take much wiggling around to spread those guns across a wide area.
-
a kills a kill no matter what kind it is. HO, sneaky up on their 6, spray and pray, BnZ, Ram (even though i hate ramming), lag, proxie they're all kills :)

This is whats wrong with this game today IMHO.

Don't worry. JFK got hit with a bullet like that too. :noid

Learn something besides HO and Run and you won't have that problem.

I'd have to agree with that 100%. In fact, I think my renew is going to be set to manual and I'll let it go for a few months.
Moreover..
Ho'ing is ridiculous. Even if you are NEAR the other guy , AFTER he passes you get the collision warning.
BTW - two planes collide of almost equal mass, both go boom...I think we all understand this. Why this wasn't coded as such has me frazzled.
Alas - this game is run on the absolute bare minimum it seems. Time to return is so long it's just insane. The other day a p51 blew past my bomber, shot at me - 5 seconds later I hear CHACHING CRASH...and my bomber goes down while he's already 1k away. No other planes in site.
I think this is how they actually keep subscribers though. If evenone died in a HO there would be noone left to battle. With the HUGE buffer they have around the aircraft and what they detect as a collision due to the server lag, I doubt anyone would be happy to die every time. A TRUE head one is what should kill another.
I don't know how ww2online does it, but they sure have it right. VERY fast updates in that game and when you hit something, the other guy knows VERY quickly. Seemingly 100 faster than in this game.
Just unacceptable. Maps that haven't been updated in ages, same old same old with no updates - yet at a premium subscription service.
Sorry , just my 2 cents.

Yes I think there may have been two shooters.. There must have been a second shooter on the grassy knoll.

:aok

I think the game is just fine.

if you collide on your computer, you will take damage. due to internet lag, the other guy's PC may not actually have detected a crash, but a near miss. imagine flying close to a guy but not touching, and being told that you've collided, and dying (even though you're 50 yards apart) because due to internet lag, the other guy saw the both of you hit. that would be pretty gay. if you hit the guy on your end, you will take damage, as you should. if you're too much of a muppet to avoid crashing into someone, then *****ing about the collison model is the least of your worries.
if both of the guys 'see' a collision on their computer, then they both take damage, but usualy due to lag, only one PC detecs a collision
the collision model is as PERFECT as is allowed by the internet. we are unfortunately limited by the speed of light, sucks, donut?

I think you don't understand at all...
Dig up old collision threads and read the simple explanations why this is true in real life, but not in an online game.

Thanks for your concern but I dont have that problem.
Any one that shadows me in a 1 v 1 with 6k alt, specially in a 51, that only engages when its 2 v 1 and I'm fighting something else, will get exactly the same.
Roc - yeah perhaps though I didnt recieve any damage from the HO. He made a 500mph pass when I was fighting a Spit, about 15 seconds earlier, and hit my radiator.
I thought this game was WYSIWYG as far as damage was concerned, I hit a right aileron and cause enough damage, it drops off etc. without having to factor lag or the other guys FE into it.

Where does it say that hit sprites actually mark the place of damage?
I remember another on-line flight-sim, designed by the same guy, where they say sprites don't actually map the hits.

Why the collision model works.

How would you feel taking damage looking at your film and seeing tangles front end view, hmmmmmm?
I know I'd be pretty POed.

Edit: This also works nicely for the "none should take damage" people.
Yea I should be able to put the nose of my ac through another.:furious :furious :furious

It is amaizing how far ones imagination can go in order to blame everything on net lag. :rofl Hits register on your FE.
I've been seing this in the DA all the time. I spray their elevators, see them fall off, then plane blows up. Hit their left wing, right flap goes. Colide with plane on your right, left gear goes etc. :rofl

It's very clear to me; cut and dry.
If you fly close enough to someone to ram (his fault, your fault, doesn't matter) then U SUCK!
Whining about who's fault, who's FE, who's blah, blah, blah doesn't change the fact that you got WAAAAAAYYYYYYYY too close and you deserve to die. And your wife leave you, and your dog die, and your truck to break down.
-
Trikky.. the answer is fairly simple.
The P51 suffered no damage on the right wing that you hit, but the P51 (like its AH drivers) is a hypochondriac so the left wing felt pain and after a whine simply fell off. ;)
