Title: Why?
Post by: wrag on August 04, 2007, 10:42:05 AM
since we have no desert maps, is the panzer and the tiger default skin a desert camo?

Could we please switch ALL Ground vehicle default skins to a more green map friendly color?

M4 already has enough of an advantage!!!!!!!!!!

Problem is all we have right now are GREEN maps!

Even if we get some desert maps the memory requirements for loading ALL the skins make most of us use the default and turn off other players skins.

Perhaps what can be done is a AH setting to change default GV skins for each map?????

In either case the M4 and the M16 and most of the allied default GV skins are GREEN of one tint or another BUT the axis default GV skins are mostly desert!

So was thinkin we could have a slightly more level field if all GV skins went according to the MAP color!

The default skins of the panzer and Tiger are accurate for 1943 to 1945.

Dark yellow, Dark green and reddish brown were the actual colors used at that time.

To paint the german vehicles green would invite a friendly to shoot as all the Allied vehicles were green.

The original national color of German vehicles was dark grey. They dropped this as Allied air power made camouflage more important and it was decided the dark yellow, red brown, dark green camo patterns generally worked for everyone (except in winter of course) on all fronts.

I'm not saying these colors were absolute as there were local variations but they were the official colors and most of the german vehicles were painted in this way '43 to '45.

Not sure the current default colors comply?

Look more like desert camo to me

This Tigre is said to be in the Kursk area in 1943. Note the light color desert like paint.

Most likely as the Germans did not have color film.

The Germans had a shortage of various camouflage paints after ~1942-43. Many vehicles got a yellow base color out of factory. All the weird spot-patterns or tiger-stripe stuff you see over a yellow base was done in-field, by its crews. But to see yellow german vehicles in woodland areas was not uncommon due the aforementioned reasons.

Regards,
Matt

HMMMM............

I seem to recall they put a coating of anti-magnetic paste on all of their tanks?  And the anti-magnetic paste was a yellowish or tan color?

But I also seem to recall they used a dark gray paint on most vehicles prior to that????

Most of the color stuff I've seen of German tanks in WWII they look dark GRAY!  Even in 1943-44-45????

Late in the war as supplies of paint dried up (pun intended) some vehicles started getting the old dark grey paint again but it was not official. It was just an effect of logistics breaking down.

The Germans had plenty of color film too. Both still and movie film. It obviously was more expensive to use and develop and wasn't like the high tech film we have now but it was widely used.

The anti magnetic paste was made from resins and sawdust. It did have a dark tan color but it was usually applied at the factory and painted over.

I have 35 years and hundreds of dollars worth of books here on the shelf at my disposal but even a quick Google search on these subjects should easily provide you with good information on these subjects.

German Armour was painted Red Oxide in the factories.  Prior to delivery they were painted Panzer Grey, and by 1943 they switched to mustard yellow.  Zimmerit (the anti-magnetic paste) applied to takes was really a light tan, and it too was painted after application to seal it.

it wouldnt make sense to me to change the colors to green as imo camo doesnt help much. I can see a green tank just as well as a yellow one, except maybe from the air, but from the air we get those nice red icons.

also, yellow/red/brown paint on tanks isnt the worst idea. if anyone has ever been out it deep woods you noice that the green,i.e. bushes trees is more common high off the ground, whereas yellows and browns show more on the ground from dead foliage and tree trunks. re/yellow/ brown paint would blend some here and work well with breaking up the vehicles profile, which is the primary reason for camo. I cant say this worked in europe as I've never been there and dont know what the woodland areas are like there.

I can see the green tanks fairly well yes but the YELLOW or TAN used on the Axis tanks stands out even more.

I read the responses saying the tank colors are correct.

OK, HEY!  .......     problem is the colors we have in the MA Maps aren't yellow or tan friendly!

Now.... do you get my drift on the subject?

Not saying the Axis vehicles are incorrectly colored!  Saying the MAP COLORS we have make them STAND OUT MORE then the green vehicle colors................

so I'm requesting that the DEFAULT color of the axis vehicles be set to a more MAP friendly color..................

we have such color schemes available!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT it's pretty much USELESS to select those colors because most will only SEE the default colors....................... ....................

TURN OFF OTHER SKINS?????????????????????????

oh and lets the grass stay brown in sommer as it's not DEAD but dornment. (sorry for bad speeling)  Best to water grass at night and drench it. Never give small amounts of water only makes the roots shorter and scotches the leaves.

best grasses for desserts:-

Festuca rubra rubra
Festuca rubra commutata
Agrostis tenuis
some lolium (dwarf perenai ect.)
