What is the metal covering the windscreen on the left side of the cockpit?

My guess is that it's some kind of shield to guard against the glare given off by the aircraft's shiny skin.

Nice pictures, now to get my screen back in shape after you stretched it to hell. What works, hot or cold water, to shrink it back into shape?

The metal on the windscreen is armour plate. B-25Hs carried a lot of armour protection for the pilot.
