Nice find Fester! I've never stayed up long enough to have to cut rpms haha..:D

well when taking a drop tank the rack takes off 10mph top speed and adds 50 lbs so fuel management is beneficial in this plane sicne the detail of the flight model is more realistic than most of the older planes.
-
Does the empty rack itself weigh anything? Have you checked?
I ask because the Fw190A-8 rack adds drag but no additional weight. They didn't know how much to make it weigh when they did it. I never thought to check the 109s.
-
I checked the 190's once---the drop tank RACK costs around 8mph, on average
-
did you ever check the weight of said DT? Take one "clean," check E6B weight on runay. Tower. Take one with DT, drop DT, check weight in E6B. Are they the same?

Wow.. I didnt realize this.. I usually take 75% and a DT.. I guess 100% and no DT would be better?

Normally, yes. However, on a 109 25% internal is about 30gallons maybe. The DT gives you 78gal or so, if I recall the ammo counter when it's selected.
Performance wise, the DT rack doesn't take off 10mph (I think it's 5 at low alt). So, you need to figure if the reduced range is worth the extra few MPH. It's up to you. I personally don't care about a couple MPH because you nose down for a split second and gain that easily.
EDIT: Hrm... maybe the -5mph penalty is for the 190D's DT rack? Now I can't remember. I think the 109's was less than 10, though. Single digits, to be sure.

109k4 still is unable to conserve fuel by reducing rpms. fuel burn is not affected at all when rpm reduced to minimum rpm.

Though I didn't see it announced in update lists, this seems to have been fixed. :aok
