Title: Just a wierd update?
Post by: Oogly50 on August 08, 2007, 10:28:33 AM
I haven't bothered to play now for about... I'd say a good 3 or 4 weeks.  (4 weeks make a month, for those of you who didn't know.)  Because of a bluescreen I keep getting.

I won't get into that, but all I can say is it's kept me from playing Aces High for more than 5 minutes at a time.

I don't know if it's stopped or not because before the blue screen could get to me I discoed.  Again, I won't get into it.  But one thing I tried to do to stop the blue screens, was update my video driver.

so I try AH again.  I notice that there's something different.  My tracers are black.  Along with the green dots that indicate my allies on the clipboard.  The radar circle, and the ground.  Yes, the ground is black.  I fly, and looking at the horizon, the sky is blue, and it comes down and meets blackness.    :huh

After I noticed this...  I blue screened. :cry

I managed to squeeze in some playing time this morning (5 minutes ago actually.)  And saw thousands upon thousands of black dots in the sky.  I checked my mini-map and there were SOME allies just taking off.  (Or atleast, I THINK they're allies, it's hard to tell when all the dots are black.

It was kind of dusk on AH time, so could it just be stars, appearing ALSO as black dots?  Or some super-natural power that lets me see every plane in the air, 17 sectors away.  Because... let me tell you, this would be REALLY helpful.

Which brings me to my next question.  Is this just a wierd update or prank HTC is trying to pull on me?  or is my video driver/graffix carrd (for the squeakers)  uber messed up?

Oh, and how you boys at the 79th doing?  :aok

Seems pretty much like it's a driver issue. What card do you have, and which drivers you currently have installed?

SAPPHIRE RADEON 9200SE ATLANTIS 128MB

And how do I check my drivers?

Sorry for the stupid question :p   I'm not computer smart.

Oh yea, and somebody yesterday, when I stated this problem, said that I should uninstall the old version of the video card.

How do I do that?  :p

9200SE?

That's a very low end card.

Might have wanted to post this in the tech support forum.

For the older cards you want the 4.12 drivers, going from memory.

9200 series must be under catalyst 4.12.Drivers that are above that give blackness.

How hot does your box get?

Yup, black colors are a typical problem when a ATI 92XX card is running with newer drivers.

To get the proper driver mentioned above, go to http://www.omegadrivers.net
Click on ATI Radeon, then Archive. Look int he list for Radeon Omega Drivers 2.5.97a (Catalyst 4.12] - that's the driver you want to install.

Of course you have to remove the current version first (via Start-Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs.)

If the driver has a glitch.... assuming you have Xp.... and that the drivers were working before....

Go to Device Manager and scroll down to the Video Card and Game Controllers, expand that and select the video card and delete or uninstall it, then reboot your computer.

Glitches in drivers are nothing new. Doing this forces the driver to reinstall back top the way it should be default. Correcting any prior issues the glitch caused.

Shortcut to Device Manager
Hold WINDOW key down and press PAUSE/BREAK key.... then press HARDWARE tab, Device Manager is listed there.

If this does not fix it then open the box and remove the card and then replace it back into the slot.... possibly not in good contact.

If still problematic... card is most likely bad.

Being a low end card I doubt if heat is the issue..... I don't believe that card has a fan onboard.

Clicked on the link that lusche gave me.

I found the driver I supposedly 'want' to install.

So I went to add/remove programs.  And saw ATI display driver.  clicked on that, and saw two options.  RADEON 9200 SERIES.  I didn't uninstall that.  But what I saw above it was RADEON 9200 SERIES secondary.  (or something alot like that)

I uninstalled secondary.  And then attempted to download the correct driver from lusche's link.  Up popped the little download window the little firefox thing gives you.  And then once it was done downloading, I clicked open.

I EXTRACTED to file C:\Documents and Settings\Travis Umbel\Desktop\

And then up came the little diagnostics screen that said the following.  C:\Documents and Settings\Travis Umbel\Desktop\rad_w2kxp_omega_2597a_7z(2).exe is not supported archive.

:huh   Should I uninstall RADEON 9200 SERIES also?

most all ATI cards will install a primary & a secondary like you have mentioned...so yes you must uninstall both before installing the new driver. Once you install the new driver it will show you the same again, a primary & a secondary 9200

Here is the link to the ATI official 4.12 drivers

okay, I installed the series...  then I tried the driver on the link that lusche sent me.

It's STILL not supported.

Now I have NO video driver...  :(

:cry :cry :cry

EDIT:  Here's what shows up after I install it and restart the computer.

The file 'ati2mtag.sys' on ATI Technologies Inc.  Installation DISK (VIDEO) is needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.
