Dolphin goes extinct (http://news.aol.com/story/_a/dolphin-species-driven-to-extinction/20070808173909990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001)
Unfortunately, it looks like there's one more major animal that'll only be remembered in books.
I'm not some whacked-out environmentalist, but I don't think it's unreasonable that we at least try to practice conservation.

You can't get them to stop killing dolphins any more than you can get em to reduce co2.
They have people... 10's of millions of people who are starving or near starving. Other things besides a cute little dolphin or some harmless co2 occupy most of their lives there.

look at all the liberals, where's the wambulance when I need it?
I guess you were all pissed off at the spotted owls losing their habitat in the 90's due to logging?
It's an animal, there's no conclusive evidence that man caused this from happening, and even if they did, it was around for 20 million ****ing years! isin't that long enough?
Anyway, it's a small price to pay for progress.

Guess I forgot that anyone who advocates conservation is a liberal scumbag. There's quite a difference between environmentalism and conservation.
Where's Teddy Roosevelt when we need him?
I never really got into the spotted owls thing, but I will tell you I'm pretty pissed about bears roaming around my neighborhood en masse for the first time in 20 years because their habitat has been cut down for, really, not much good reason (they put up a healthcare facility about 2 miles away from the hospital... A hospital that has plenty of room to expand on its own grounds).

China is the armpit of the earth... another commie stronghold that needs an H-Bomb enema. They dont care what they do to their own PEOPLE so why does the extinction of an animal concern them?
China floods the market with subsidized products, pays slave wages (for those who arent inmates) doesnt have osha restrictions, has no environmental standards whatsoever, no quality control or safety standards for their products and yet walmart cant wait to sell every item they turn out...
Competition is a good thing but it only works when everyone is on the same playing field. Charman Mao is laughing in his grave... Using our own greed and stupidity to destroy us.

I wonder if it was taste?
Get used to China taking a **** on stuff, the more money we send them in having them make our good the more powerfull and environmentally unsound they will be.
Didn't any of you watch the documentary on chinas industry and how they basically use slave labor by forcing peasants from the country to work almost nothing?
But hey you can buy cheap **** at wallmart, whats a few animal species here and there?

at least half the crap I have in my house was made in china - yours too I bet. Their dvd players are a perfect example as they are basically illegal the way they are setup. And can you say disposable? Their crap is cheap so it is replace instead of repair .
they are the stunninghunk of the world because of the way they treat it - btwn human rights, animal rights and the environment violations - what do you think the US would be called if we did 1/1000 the abuses that mofo of a
country gets away with in this day and age ....
"So, whats your excuse? "
good one red arse .. take long to think that one up? :)

My brother in law is a 7-eleven asia logistics coordinator. He has to travel to China a lot because 7-eleven has just begun opening more stores. On his last trip into china he noticed that there were no birds in the city he was visiting. He asked his translator about that. The translator smiled and responded "if it's alive, the chinese will eat it". "If it's not protected in a zoo, it becomes someone's lunch in china".
Remember that the chinese are just modernising and moving into capitolism from communism. Communism has no teachings about morality like the golden rule we westerners play by. So they have no problems eating a species into extinction or taking one of our patent protected products down the street, copying it and under selling us back home. Because they see our rules of corporate conduct\laws and christian morality as our greatest weakness to exploit, they are kicking our kesters as if we bend over begging them for it.........................:t

The last 2 years I have been making an effort to buy products that say:
1. Made In The USA
2. Made In Taiwan (Free China for those too young to know)
3. Made In Japan
Obviously the commie bastards get some of my money as it is unavoidable with the traitorous globalists running our trade policies.
It does require more money to buy these other products BUT I DO always get a better quality product by doing so.

A good friend of mine is actually working in China at the moment, on a paid-intern basis, for the Olympics. It'll be interesting to see what she has to say of the place, and perhaps even more interesting to see if she's ever heard how decent people loved Nazi Germany back in Munich '36.

I get irritated yes when I see woods and forrest bulldozed down to make way for million dollar McMansions even though it helps my business and Im not a liberal.
I do however have a healthy respect for our environment and see it in the best interest of all involved to preserve it if for no other reason then our pleasure rather then destroy it or help make it worse under this BS guise of "We are but a part of whats happening and not the whole." logic
It may very well be true that nature is taking its course. Be it global warming or animal extinction.
But I can see no sane logical reason whatsoever that can be presented
Why we should help it along if we dont absolutely have to.
Lets say ones house is struck by lighting and set afire. And the fire spreads, as is the "natural" thing fires do.
Now lets say ones family is in the house.
Would it be ok to toss a gallon of gas on the fire?
After all. the fire it self was a result of a natural event and your gallon of gas isnt going to make much of a difference. And there is no "conclusive evidence" that your tossing a gallon of gas on the house fire is going to make it any worse then it would have gotten on its own.
Yes. things happen naturally not always to our liking.
That does NOT mean its ok to help it along.
Yes, one drop in a glass of water. But eventually all it takes is one more drop to make that glass overflow.
Or maybe put it into a context that people here REALLY care about.
If left alone to let nature take its natural course a WWII airplane will eventually rust away and fall apart.
Why not just let them all go? They only been around 60+ friggen years.
Isnt that long enough?
Or maybe your parents/grandparents. If left alone to let nature do its thing naturally they might be gone a heck of alot sooner too.
Do we say, ehh screw it. They are going to die anyway sooner or later. Why give them medicine, or why take care of them. We are only postponing the inevitable.
But no. why try to preserve them if for no other reason then our enjoyment and pleasure. Because we like having them around.
The largest problem I have with the "Man has little to no impact" clowns is they tend to not think in any kind of depth whatsoever beyond their own personal greed and how it might inconvenience THEM.
This makes them every bit as bad as the environmental clowns screaming the sky is falling due to man over every little thing.
Yes. Things happen in the natural world that may not be good for us.
That does NOT mean we should give ourselves license to help it along unnecessarily no matter how minimal an impact it is.

If you want to see what pollution really is, go to China. They will be shutting down the factories and banning motorized travel before the olympics so the air will not harm the athletes. In some cities the pollution falls as ash.
-
Lazs, get your calendar out. I agree with what you say.
But, Vudak also has a point. The problem is forcing one country that is outgrowing it's resources(China) to obey your wishes (USA). Wars have often been started over resources (WWII). You have to pick your battles, unfortunately for the dolphins they lose.
It's called evolution. Only the strong survive.

I think its called materialism, greed and selfishness and only the ignorant will survive - for a little while anyways

We are all giving the chinese the money they need to **** up because we want cheap gadgets and clothing. I wish i could say i boycotted chinese merchandise but that is too hard to do. If it doesnt say "made in china", it often will if you open the gadget up and look on at the components inside. China is prolly the worst, but dont forget India or Pakistan either.
I would be more than happy to pay more for much of my stuff than i do now if i knew the components were made in a good way and that the workers were payed well, but then I am fortunate enough to be in a postion were i can afford to make such choises... many are not, or do not care.
The international community should get more heavily involved and agree on some sort of ban/extra tax on all products regardless of country of origin (not were its imorted from) that does not meet minimum standards on many issues related to the production of goods. Pure capitalism will never work anywere ever as long as there is poverty and greed.

Someone from that link posted this.
' Folks it is time to wake up and start protecting our resources! What if the cure for cancer was in those dolphins adrenal glands and we just didn't know it yet. '
- Food for thought, but even if it wasn't -
A species that survived 20 MILLION years should have been shown ALOT more respect than it was.

you can't force them to not eat when they are starving... you can't force them to worry about pollution unless it harms them. there is evidence that the government there is thinking that pollution might be hurting productivity..
That is most likely true. they will green up as it becomes feasable. they may kill off some stuff in the meantime tho and pollute some land that will take a while to recover... Note... Co2 is not pollution.. that is not why they would need to stop driving for the athletes... co2 is simply not pollution. It would help them more than hurt them.. it increases crop yeild.
You can't stop them from overpopulating their land any more than you can other backward nations... selfish pocketbook reasons, in the end, drive cutting down the birth rate. the civilized and rich white population is actually shrinking.. because we are selfish... selfish is not always bad.
as for the silly example of not throwing a gallon of gas on a huge bonfire... why not? it really is negligable... a waste of time maybe but harmless in the scheme of things.. sorta like man made contribution to co2... in fact sometimes firemen do add fuel to flames to get something to burn to make a firebreak. adding to the fire helps to fight it. adding co2 helps to stop starvation and the reasons that they are eating anything that they can.

That big toy recall hit us. One of the baby's favorite toys and we had to sneak it out the toy box while he was asleep due to lead paint.
Let's see, China sent us:
Bad pet food
Bad toothpaste
Bad toys
Bad tires
Guess they dont want to kill us with bullets cause they are scared we will fight back.
-
speed 55... you could say also that one of the aborted babies of which we do so many held the cure for cancer or aids or eternal life. How do you feel about that?

I'm just finishing up working my part time college job at Batteries Plus (1 final semester, FINALLY). Anyways, pretty much every battery we carry, with the exception of car batteries and alkaline batteries, is made in China.
If it wasn't for my discount and knowing what I know, the quality of Chinesse batteries is terrible. Our motorcycle batteries are pretty ****ty and made in China. Yeah, about 60% Gross profit at least on those puppies...
I especially love that we're rebranding out cellphone and camera batteries to Rayovac who still makes their AA's in the US, but the rebranded batteries are the same old ones we had before. Made right in China :lol Just using Rayovac for their name I guess.

I think the satement that the guy made about those dolphins was meant like this: If they weren't completely wiped out, we would have been able to study blood samples or whatever from healthy ones and possibly find something to benefit the human race.
I'm against abortion, except for rape victims. - a different topic.
If we knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that by killing ONE specific baby it WOULD produce a cure for cancer and save millions, i don't think that's for me to decide.
I've heard about rich chinese businessmen eating human fetus' as a delicacy though, which is pretty sickening if it's true.
-
speed.. china can never wipe out the dolphin. you will always be able to see one at marine world or a lab somewhere and if you need to squeeze some juice to cure everything from cancer to climate change....
it will be available. I am just getting sick of the tactics used by the so called environmentalists. No lie is too big.
I don't know what human will turn out to be a savior but it seems just as likely that one we have aborted was one we needed as it does that dolphins are all that special that only they can save us.
