-
Just edit/erase your post at top and it should be all cool. Think you have 2 hours to do it from initial post...
-
What the heck is a Luftmorder anyway?
(i'm in favor of just deleting the thread. Click EDIT and at the top check the Delete? box and click Delete Now)
-
Will do...
"Luftmorder" is German for aireal murderer/ asassin.
"Jabostaffeln" is German for Ground Attack.
I'm pretty sure thats what it means
-
You are also wrong.
"LuftMorder" is not a German word, or combination of German words.
-
ok
-
its not letting me delete it
-
 :furious  :furious  :furious
WHY WON"T IT LET ME DELETE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????!!!!!!
-
Well, Luft means air, and moerder (o - umlaut shown as oe) means murderer.
I am not sure there is an actual german word, luftmoerder would mean aerial murderer...at least understood to mean such.......To me it did, anyway.

Check this link http://translation2.paralink.com/ then select english/german and type in either aerial murderer or aerial assassin both come out to Luftmörder, if you do german to english and type in Luftmörder it comes back as: Aerial murderer thanx and hope that clears that usless argument up :aok

Sorry for the hijack, but Im a little confused with the German here. You claim that Jabostaffel is German for fighter-bomber. I thought that Jabostaffel meant 'fighter-bomber squadron'? My breakdown is this- I know Jagd is 'fighter' from the word Jagdgeschwader, 'fighter wing'. I havent a clue what the word for bomber is, but I always assumed it started with 'bo' (perhaps a cognate of the english word?), making up the second part of Jabo. And in the German flight system, a Staffel is equal to a Squadron- Rotte=Element, Scwarm=Flight, Staffel=Squadron, etc.
Not saying your wrong, just explaining my reasoning.

Actually, I have seen the word before. The "Titan" books by Varley. Luftmorders were nasty creatures created by a computer/god. Basically, they were sentient V-1's. Major nasty. :)
-
I'm far from a language expert (and my apologies if this is continuing down the hijack highway) was the that the term JABO that we use here is a combination of Jagd which I think more directly translates and something like "hunt" or "hunter" and the word for bomber, which in German is spelled nearly the same way I think (exact spelling fails my beer rattled mind). I don't think JABO in of itself is a term/word other than possibly being slang/abbreviation for jagdbomber which of course is a fighter-bomber in this context.
I'm sure someone can come along and correct me if I'm wrong, as I often am. :)
-
Nope, you got it in one.
Literal translations word to word are occaisionally suspect. Compound words and phrases, even more so due to cultural inflection, or what is known in the translation business as "localization".
The following are a few 'literal' translations.
"fighter" Kämpfer
"fighter plane" Kämpferfläche
"attack fighter" Angriff Kämpfer
"fighter bomber" Kämpferbomber
"dive bomber" Sturzbomber
"attack-bomber" Angreifenbomber
"hunter" Jäger
"fighter hunter" Kämpferjäger
“fighter pilot” Kämpferpilot
"heavy bomber" Schwerebomber
I believe 'Jadgeschwader' would most closely translate into English as 'hunter squadron'.
-
... and this is my unitedd states of whatevver!
-
To tell you the truth....idk any of it...i knew Luftmorder but was told that Jabostaffeln was something like "ground-attack" squadron. 'Cause basically all i do is bomb tanks...go to TT IN a tank...and the most important...FURBALL...lol
-
Mr. Rednex they are right on this one as you do have a word that means nothing *LOL the correct name if you want it to mean ground attack is Grund-Angriff so It would read, "luftmörder Grund-Angriff"
hope that clears it up
