My son stepped on my Phillips DJ style phones.    So, Tuesday I went to Circuit City and bought a $50 pair of Sennheiser's for $29 incl. tax.    They are all I need.

If I need something for "critical listening", I use my KEF's in the living room.

Nothing Sony has ever produced is worth that much.

That's bogus.
Anyone who's got a kid (evident from the baby blankie in the photos) sure ain't paying $4000 for a headset.

I beg to differ.

I still have a '21 in Sony Trinitron TV in my bedroom that was made in 1987.  That TV was only repaired once, in 2001.  The crt gave out, an Armenian TV repair shop owner back in L.A. fixed it and it only cost me $50.  Also, I just recently bought the Sony MDR V6 headphones (1980s model).  It's the best $100 gadget I ever bought in terms of price/performance ratio.  These headphones are so much better than the overpriced BOSE headphones.  It is not unusual to hear someone who still use these headphones for more than 15-20 years, the only thing that needs to be replaced are the pleather paddings.

PS: The $4,000 headphone showed above was made in 1970s.
