Been years..since 1988 that I bought a new guitar. Last one was a BC Rich cheapo version Warlock, and a Marshall amp. Played it with my brother who played drums and my old high school bud after we came home from the military. Life took over and I had no time to play after 1992 or so.
Well this past week I was at my buds house at an extended party and we played alot. I got the bug. So today we went to a nearby city and I bought a Schecter guitar and a Line 6 amp. I love it. Its the nicest guitar Ive ever played. Smooth as silk. And the amp sounds great and has alot of cool preset sound settings to play with.
Im really looking forward to playing agin. My brother is coming up this week and we plan to burn Tuesday up playing all day (my bud has a drumset he can use). I think I just entered my second childhood :)

My brother has Schecter custom with the neck glued through the whole body. He loves this guitar, especially the sustain he gets but I think he is envious of my Fender Deluxe.

I've heard that those Line 6 amps are the bomb. WTG, have fun bud! :aok

I'm just learning guitar. As fun as it is, there's nothing about it that can crank up a huge smile like throwing on the distortion.

One thing I never knew was how easy it is to play with a decent guitar. Ive been working too hard in the past, by using cheaper ones. People always say to start out on a cheap guitar, but I have to say, get a good guitar to learn on. I bet it would make people stick with it and improve.

Yeap, same as tools for work.

Exactly!

I got my Yamaha 12-string acoustic out of the basement a couple of weeks ago and put strings on it for the first time in about 6 years. The neck still looks straight but the higher octave strings get really out of tune as I move up the neck. I might have to find a replacement if I want to start playing again.

I was one of those who didn't figure there could be much difference between a $150 guitar and a $800, $1200, or $1800 guitar. I started out with a hand-me-down acoustic Fender (it was in pretty poor shape) with nylon strings, and I was very frustrated that I didn't seem to be making much progress. Then I picked up a $200 Silvertone acoustic-electric, and found I was doing better, though still felt I was having more trouble than I should progressing. Finally, I went into the local Guitar Center and cast my eyes on a sun-burst red Ovation Delux. List price was $860, but they had this one marked down to $313 because it had a superficial scuff on the body. Five minutes of playing, and I plunked down the money. My playing really took off at that point.
Since then I've added one more guitar (and sold the Silvertone to a friend). The new one is also an Ovation, a limited edition 1778 Elite. List price is $1800, but this one I got for $619 (it was used, but otherwise in great shape). While I really like it, I still spend more time playing the Ovation Delux. It has a more mellow sound and, well, it's the guitar that really got me going, and got me writing music too.
Anyway FiLth, glad to hear you've found a guitar that's rekindled your passion. Stick with it.
And as always, check out http://www.myspace.com/richowen61 to hear some of my original work. Drop by and leave a comment (good or bad) about my songs.

Man takes me back a bit.
I have a 1962 Yamaha, an Ovation and a Wooden handcrafted 3 piece back that I bought in Germany back in '86.
Love all three.

Nice Filth.
I have a 1984 BC Rich Warlock (NOT the Cheepo) californian custom made. As well as a '70 Gibson Flying Vee, and a Hamer Destroyer body (ALL Bases).
I use a GK 800 watt head, Digitech effect board, and Genz Benz top 10" top W/ 4" horn, atop a Mesa Boogie Detroit Deisel Road case sporting two 15" EV thumpers.
Play baby play. :aok
Most of which can be seen here:

Wtg FiLtH!...Next thing you might consider purchasing is a digital 4 track(very cheap nowadays)....i used to record all my first jams with a JVC boombox that had a pair of high quality condenser mics...those first jams can definitely be some of the most fun music times.
And no instrument makes you learn faster than hearing yourself on playback.:aok

Me and my bud were just talking about a recorder tonight :) I forgot to say he picked up a new bass yesterday. He couldnt leave the store empty handed lol. I originally wanted the Schecter Hellraiser with the EMGs, but the action was horrid so I sat there and he kept runnin for different guitars. I went thru about 15 or so before settling on the one I got.
