Title: JG11 Recruiting
Post by: Stampf on August 20, 2007, 02:54:47 PM
JG11 is now recruiting dedicated Luftwaffe pilots. We are a group made up of mature, experienced pilots who enjoy the Historical immersion of flying German aircraft exclusively. If you enjoy, History, the Luftwaffe, an organized, and team oriented atmosphere, leave a reply or send me a PM. New players welcome as well, as long as you are willing to train, and participate with the Gruppe.
We fly for the Knights, and also participate in events like Friday Squad Operations. Sometimes we draw non German planes for these events, and members of JG11 are allowed to, and encouraged to practice in these rides during the week leading up to the event(s).
JG11 focuses on fun, does not participate in channel 200 antics, and while we do not do a lot of base capturing, we do help the overall Knight effort each and every night in the Main. Fighter sweeps, Base defense, and Attack runs fill the majority of our sorties, but we occasionally bomb and tank as well.
Tuesday is squad night, which we start off in the Training Arena. Our site is http://www.JG11.org and you need to be a registered user to participate in the forums there, due to a recent attack of spammers.
JG11 is well respected and comes with good references from both our allies and foemen. Look no further if you are interested in a complete Squad package.

:) Thank you Gentlemen. Alot of hard work and time it takes to accumulate the right guys. Squadrons, over time become much like families and can be one of the most rewarding aspects of the game. I have been very lucky to have outstanding members come into the JG11 family and it really makes me happy to be recognised by you all, some of the most respected leaders in the community. :aok

Now that DGS is completed, and a large part of the community is going through "immersion withdrawl", it's a great time to find a group that strives to find that type of realism rush in every sortie, regardless of arena or situation.
Join JG11 for a night of hardcore Luftwaffe madness. Fly a Friday Squadron Operation with the 11th.
Find us out there, and create the experience!

Post by: Motherland on November 11, 2007, 01:14:15 AM
Ive been wandering around for a while now, Im looking to finally settle in with a squad. I got a couple offers whilst I was on the Rooks, but I stayed a drifter... A couple days ago I switched to the knights, and I beleive I will stay here, having already flown with the Bishops and Rooks... I beleive I like the Knights best. Ive become rather proficient in the 109 and 190, as well as preferring the Stuka for ground attack... Im just a Luftwaffe kind of guy. This makes me want to join a mainly-Luftwaffe squad, of course. You guys stand out, mainly because your CO was the Axis CO for DGS, so you cant be all that bad ;) Id like to fly with you some time, im usually on around 3-4PM est or 7-9 est. See you in the skies!
P.S., My game handle is 762R... that may be a bit important :aok

Motherland,
You are welcome to wing up with the 11th Jagdegeschwader to see if we all are a good fit for eachother. You can find us on Vox 115.
A couple quick things to consider. JG11 is NOT a "mainly" Luftwaffe squadron. We are a "Totally" Luftwaffe Squadron...at least in Late War. Members are free to fly whatever in the Early and Mid war arena's, but Luft. only in Late War.
Also we are a team oriented unit, and members are encouraged to fly with other members whenever possible. With members from the west coast to the east coast of the USA, and also Europe, you can almost always find at least one of us online.
Best of luck to you. Welcome to the Knight side of the struggle. Look forward to seeing you.
Salute.

FSO begins again on Jan.18th. You guys who are not (MA) JG11 but wish to continue to fly with the gruppe during FSO, please send me a PM or leave a note so I can accuratly adjust our comittment numbers. Next operation includes ground vehicles and judging from the set-up, it's going to be a very large challange for the Axis, so please let me know what your plans are so we can work up a decent strategy to counter the allies.

Flew last night with this group on 115.
Nov, vonmessa, vater, viper, 76, 33.
Landed lots of kills and left many a Spitfire/51/La wingless or on fire.
The fight that stood out in my mind was a fighting withdrawal from 53 where us in Bf 109s/Fw 190s kept clearing ourselves from 51s/Las/Spits/Canes trying to return to base, left them all for dead except for one 'Cane who Nov hit and limped home.

My fav acft in the game are FW190 A-8 and the 190 D9. I have been in aviation all my life and I was in the back of my dad's T28 before I was in 1st grade. I would love to be considered for this unit. What's up guys, pretty impressed the initial viewing. The site link doesn't work. I'm looking for a good serious squad that has fun. I was with the 361st as a sergeant but they apparently disbanded. I just got out of the hospital to that discovery. But anyway I played about 4 years ago before AH made the switch to T&L graphics and about 4 months I've been back on. I've played flight sims from Chuck Yeagers flight sim on dos in the late 80's to AH and many in between. I currently fly for the bishes but honestly I'm looking for a good excuse to change country's. If you guys are still recruiting I'm interesting.

<S> Stampf I would like to be given consideration for a pilot position in your squad. My current squad is imploding. I'm looking at it as kind of a blessing. My heart has always been behind the controls of a 190A8. I enjoy flying in all the special events. In fact I'm flying axis in saturdays event. That's if I got a squad left to fly with. In any case. I want to become a Luftwaffe pilot. Thank You. Brian Schuster www.Brian_Schuster_@msn.com

Hmmm didn't notice it. RAM is my old handle which dates from 2002, or so. Back then I was banned from the forums (not the game) for some disruptive behavior both online and in the MA. But that belongs to an era well behind, I was just an immature kid at that time. In fact I had another handle here, RRAM, which was not banned. I logged in with this handle because is the one I use almost in every forum I am part of, and as I was allowed to log in I simply didn't notice it had the banned tag.
Well, as long as I can post with this handle, I'll keep doing it. Of course unless HTC says "no", in which case I'll use the RRAM one.

now I am back, a LW squad would fit me perfectly...but for the times involved. Squad operatons at 9PM East time translated into 2 am for me...not too much euro-friendly.
Is any of the staffeln euro time only?. If not, is there any LW dedicated squad based in euro time zones that you might point me at?.
thanks in advance.
Welcome back RAM.
Thank you for your interest in Jagdgeschwader 11.
At the moment there are no other dedicated Luftwaffe Units in the game. That is to say, units that fly the Irons exclusively. Feel free to look us up on the knight side in the Late War Arena(s). You can find some of us most anytime of the day. Also, please check out www.JG11.org for more info on the unit. There are some things there of relative importance to possible replacements. Thanks again. Oh,...as far as a Euro-staffel goes, we have been toying with the idea, but right now it would be more along the schwarm level, based on current roster.
All the best.

Thanks for your answer. I'll look for you guys when I am online. As long as there is someone up to fly and wing with, I'll be happy, don't really care if it's just one, or five. Have to say that my assistance to the squad nights may be a bit difficult to say the least. Simply too late here in Spain and I wake up very early to go to work. I hope that's not a serious problem :).
I also looked the website, and I'm more than fine with the regulations.
Well, hope to fly with you guys soon.

Ram,
Gotcha. No probs. Some of us (like myself) are pretty much available 24/7, and with a little heads up, can sign on most anytime. Let me now when you might be on some day here, and I will make every effort to join you. Much easier to speak about the unit while live, rather than using this bbs.
No worries about squad night. We have had to split the group sometimes just to find a good sustained fight, without the entire squad fighting for a handful of assists. ;)
See ya up.

A class act of a squad here. I would recommend that anyone who loves German Iron to take a look at the top notch Geschwader in Aces High! The organization of JG11 is unbelievable for only flying cartoon aircraft and Stampf has truly developed an amazing group of pilots.

I have NOT been flying for about a week and came back last night... to get killed 3 times, bail once or twice, disco twice and land safely once but without kills. Totally out of it it wasn't even fun. In a way that's what is so great about this game, real skill matters and you have to keep current and keep maintaining those skills or they will be gone in a instant. Felt like a noob all over again, certainly flew like a noob... ...and came to the conclusion that I'm putting way too many frickin hours into work! It's just life eh... :(
Love the game though, never gonna give it up.

Tuesday's being the worst possible night to come back from a break, I am not surprised. There is no doubt you can lose your edge quickly in this game. A couple days off and it takes a couple more to get sharp again.
So tempting...but the "Luftwaffe planes only" thing kills me :D
And there lies the rub, for many, including ourselves in a way. It's just not for everyone. Some guys come to us seeking a tight historical based unit that flies as a team, using tactics, patience, discipline, etc, and where the focus is on the fun of the fight, over the accumulation of real estate. Friends, even previous enemies, alike have come and really done well, and also contributed greatly to the overall force that is JG11. However, in the end it is a forgone conclusion that without the real, and sincere interest in, and dedication to the German planeset, or any like singular situation or planeset, the desire to fly other rides, do other things, outweighs the enjoyment of being part of such a unique and enjoyable unit, and their is a parting of ways, which is always painful for both the player departing and for the rest of the squad, as we are a very tight and closely knit group with strong bonds that form quickly. Sometimes we have found guys return, or even stay on regardless as they value the JG11 experience over the freedom to fly anything in the hanger, but they would be in the minority.
Banshee we have found a good rule to ask yourself when considering JG11, is "Did I come to AH to fly Luftwaffe?" If the answer is yes, JG11 may be a great opportunity and a welcome and lasting home, but if not, most would be better of in the Friends of JG11 category. :aok It's not better or worse, right or wrong, simply what we have chosen to do in AH.
I've been flying with these guys for roughly a week and I can honestly say I have never landed more kills in 1 week before I started winging with these guys.
Also, the amount I have learned about the game in general is pretty remarkable too.

Big B,
No, for FSO we require some prior notice for requests, due to the fact that Friday Squadron Operations is a pre planned, Special Event with Campaign Manager direction and we are locked into a prior numbers commitment and are always very close to said numbers come game night. Obviously we are not always even flying the German planes in FSO, which is dependant on the theatre of operation of course.
Try catching us on our MA Squad Night in the Training Arena on Wednesday nights around 8:90 - 9:00 PM est. We warm up a bit there and than migrate as a squad to the main. You are welcome to wing up and join the flight. Other than that you can find some of us in Late war any night on the Knight side of the map. As far as FSO goes, hit me with some advance notice in the beginning of the week, and I can usually get an answer back by mid week, after getting a feel for our expected turnout.
Good Hunting.

Thanks for the luv, gentlemen. If anything, being dedicated to a certain Air Force at least adds a measure of pride, and a feeling of being part of an elite unit, in a game where much dweebery abounds, and many take no pride in anything they endeavor in, and have no consideration of the History behind a game like this. Maybe it makes us abit on the extreme side, but so far it has worked well for us, and our in game time is more enjoyable, regardless of Arena/player, conditions because of it.

I am interested in joining JG11. Heres the things I like: You fly german planes, fly in friday squad ops, you do lots of winging and not base catpure, and you practice. I have been playing AH for years and I am just starting to love the german planes. I took a 6 month break and I dont have a squad anymore. I have one questoin though. Do you guys speak alot of german when playing AH? I am guessing some are from Germany. Your link at the beging for the forum to your website didnt work for me. My handle in AH is Spinner.

We have one member from Germany and and a few members who have lived in Germany, but mainly we are made up of Americans and Canadians. We use some German terms occasionally but overall we use very little German. Combat vox is all English.

Stampf and crew - was a blast flying with you guys tonight. That rolling retreat was awesome. We were easily outnumbered 2 to 1 and hadn't lost one guy up until the time that I got discoed (lightning storm moved in quick and knocked the power out for a minute). May be able to get back on later, but if not, I hope you don't mind if I tag along some other time

JG11 had a similar event last night... 3 of us (VonMessa, Spinner, and I) got engaged by 5 higher bandits. With close winging and good unit tactics, we were able to down all 5 of them for no loss. It was an incredible event and one that will feature prominently in my post 2 week write up about JG11.

I've recently visited JG11 and (except for learning what torque is) I really enjoyed myself. If you didn't catch it in the other thread, here is the write up I did after my two week visit with them.
Are you a Bf109 or a FW190 Experten? Do you have a fascination with Luftwaffe aircraft of all kinds? If so, JG11 'Sonderstaffel' Gruppe is for you!
In the beginning of July, I had the unique pleasure of joining JG11 after they won a dice roll amidst several other squadrons. Initially, I was filled with dread knowing I would be unable to fly my P38 during my tenure with this illustrious squadron. Later, I realized not only what a great experience I was given but I hadn't dreamed of how often torque would kill me.
The Sonderstaffel welcomed me with open arms, giving me access to all their films and their forums. The amount of information contained within is staggering, including some interesting information not available to those outside their Gruppe. I would also like to congratulate them on a strict 'no tolerance' rule pertaining to becoming involved in aggressive bickering, either on the forums or in the game itself. It tends to give the squadron more credibility and makes the game more enjoyable by all.
Stampf is the CO of JG11 and he tends to use a soft hand approach but is great at rallying his men. I respect the man, even if I can't fly a FW190 anywhere near as well as he does. Stampf encourages a team atmosphere and because of it their squad can take on a larger amount of opponents and still be victorious.
One episode comes to mind immediately during my time with JG11. CANUKK, VonMessa, and I were returning to base when we were bounced by 5 higher bandits. Using definitive tactics, we were able to drag them down until our altitude and energy was roughly equal. The fight went poorly for them after that...
(squad tactics equate to everyone surviving and everyone opposing them often dying) (http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn270/DeliriumP38Lightning/jg11claimsanother.jpg)
Their squad-nights are on Wednesday nights and begin in the Training Arena, some sparring and warm ups take place at that time. I consistently lost these training fights but I learned a lot, those lessons I still draw upon when I get my own students in the Training Arena. Without ado, here is some pictures of their squad nights...
(JG11 forms up on the runway to engage the high mob) (http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn270/DeliriumP38Lightning/jg11takeoff.jpg)
(Horble dismantling a Spit16). (http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn270/DeliriumP38Lightning/horblespit16.jpg)
(one of JG11 making a single successful pass on a P39) (http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn270/DeliriumP38Lightning/D9vsP39.jpg)
("Beware the Hun in the sun!") (http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn270/DeliriumP38Lightning/spitbounce.jpg)
Normally, I don't highlight individual squadron members but one member of JG11 stands out above all others. His name is Vilkas "The Wolf", and is the 'Vati' (father) of JG11 not only for his age but also for his background. This man saw the Second World War as a combatant, but does not relish what he saw or what had occurred during those unhappy times. Regardless of his age, his youthful spirit tends to give JG11 more life than it would have otherwise and I am very proud to have had some flight time to get to know him in Aces High.
(Vilkas looks on from the rear seat in the 110 and tells Delirium how to shoot) (http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn270/DeliriumP38Lightning/vilkas110.jpg)
JG11 'Sonderstaffel' also has two official Aces High Trainers within their ranks and they have helped assist with scenario design in the past. They are a great squad and flying with them has helped me assist others in the Training Arena.
If you are interested in joining JG11, contact Stampf on the forums or visit their website at;

True, but it's a voluntary limitation. Personally I don't fly anything but german aircraft anyway so for me the rule is of no consequence. JG11 is not for everyone but if you are dedicated to the Luftwaffe planes this is the place to be.

After a while I couldn't stand the Allied iron. I was back in a 109 before the end of the night. I can duel with them planes, but I can't fight in the MA using them. Too much temptation to just yank the stick back until I can shoot.

I remember when I had to make the transition to pedals, first few weeks were pretty awkward. One of the things that helped me make the transition (and something I still do) is that I didn't rest my whole foot on the pedal. Instead I would rest my heel on the base of the pedals and just control the pedals with the ball of my foot and toes. I found it made making minor adjustments a lot easier.

I'll try that. Obviously it's affecting my already lousy gunnery, but even plain ole combat, I'm trying to do things with the stik, that I must now do in conjunction with the pedals...
The Fighterstick in itself is an adjustment after nothing but X-52's in my hands the last 4 years or more. The precision in amazing, but the feel is horrible to me still. I had to tell folks the other night, 'No, my dog is not flying my plane tonight'.
The CH quality is great. And it's given me a new set of challenges in the game. It is tough right now though.

Would I have to renounce my current LW squad? What is the time committment Tuesdays?
Could I learn how to ho on 4 passes in a row like SycoDon? Kidding... I already know how to do that but have learned that it's generally NOT a good idea. Why? I look at it logically. There are two possibilities in encountering an enemy pilot on a ho.
1. he's better than I am - in which case, odds are good that he'll go for separation instead of guns 2. he's worse than I am - in which case, he'll come in blazing
In the second case, I have zero incentive to engage in the ho since I can probably kill the guy. In th efirst case, Iwon't have the opportunity.
Seriously, I ask because I don't want to renounce my squad, which is also LW but is only really a loose organization of pilots. At the same time, i'd like the opportunity to train and fly with what is perhaps a more disciplined group.

Ha, ha. You know how to hurt. Honestly, I'm not shooting for Rock Star. The whole thing looks abhorrent to me - like some early-80's Transformer kids playing "planes". My "squad" is a squad only in the loosest of senses. We fly together in FSO and sometimes in the MAs but are organized something like little to none. That's not to say there isn't talent and experience there.
I can take a "yes, you have to renounce". I just want to know if it's a requirement.

Don't think this escapes me. I recognize that my request must look very practical and mundane - taking into consideration the hows rather than the whys. The art of the tater is the aluminum falconry of the experten. I thought its attraction implicit - and am almost embarassed to mention it.

I am trying to understand your requests here. If you are asking if you need to withdrawl from your squadron, in order to fly and train with JG11, I would recommend against doing that.
Also, Tuesday's as you seem to know is squad night for the 11th, and it's not the best time for quests, in fact we operate with the roster and pre arranged additions only.
However there is nothing stopping you from finding the guys in the arena some night and tagging along. Better yet, look up Morfiend, who is both a member of the squad, and an AH Trainer, and could certainly assist you, as could any of the trainers in the TA.
All the Best.

I love this picture. The slight blur and the hints of spent shell casings really evoke life and death, purpose and fury. It's suitable for print, given some slightly more official-looking text.

They may not be casings. There's a hint of something under the left wing, next to the little pitot (perhaps) probe thingie under the left wing. Since there are no gondos on this one, I can only conclude it must be something else. One appears under the right wing as well. They both look cylindrical. Given the probe thingie, I'm thinking K-4, therefore dismissed attachments and assumed casings, especially due to the blurry, vibrating "look".

Hi P.J.
USRanger can correct me if I am mistaken, but that pic looks like it is from the game, Il2.
Yes, certainly a JG11 bf109K-4. I think what is seen under the wings could be the aileron counter balances. I also do not think they are modeled in our AH version.
Cheers.

One of the most beautiful skins in the game in my opinion. (thanks Fencer).
Funny thing... I meant Dennis Hopper (from the eminently weird Blue Velvet)- and just noticed your squaddie's handle. I DO love that skin, though - and am also very fond of the white/grey/black mottled "cow" skin (as we call it) that we used in the Italian FSO on the G-2 or G-6... I'd look it up but I'm up to my azzbucket right now.
IMJ, Luftwaffe patterns are not only more beautiful, they're also mor eeffective - sometimes (because less uniform).

11 Gruppo takes to the sky during FSO - Sicilian Stalemate - 10-08-10. The Staffel would down 31 Allied aircraft for the loss of 6 during hard fought action over central and northern Sicily.
I have GOT to get one or two of those for the front of my Jeep !
Back in 2003 the USAFM Curator was arrested for alot of things, but one that I read at the time was that German aircraft armament deemed excessive, and still operational, to the collection was disposed of in dumpsters. You missed your chance it seems.

Herr Stampf-I wish to apply for membership into JG11 at this time. Flew in Fighter Aces for approx 3 1/2 years serving JG54,-300 and-26 until FA died Aug 1. I proudly acheived the rank of Brig.Gen while being promoted to BCO in-54 and -300 while flying my-110G.(not easy to do,by the way) Sense the demise of FA,I briefly explored WB (no joy) before finding a new home in AH. Started off flying Dr.1's and DVII's in the WWI theaters to learn a few basic dog-fighting skills. This newbie learned basic game-playing from "Longbow".(a patient man). From here I joined the AH JG-54... But no support whatsoever...Quit-54 and went 'allied' for a short time (the-38 is a 'sweet ride' as opposed to my-110). Funny thing is that flying United States aircraft almost seems like cheating in a way(?) Like you all,I prefer the challanges of our Ger birds. Make no mistake that what I don't know about this game can fill volumes! Also understand also that I strongly want to exceed in AH (finally) with the help with JG11. This old Buff driver is learning the-190 as we speak. Thanks for considering this heart-felt application. Hope that JG11 can find room for a "mud mover"/fighter wannabe. I will abide by all AH and JG11 guidlines.

Are you saying these two gents flew FA? I was active in FA from 1998 to somewhere around 2003 I believe. Hadn't developed such a great interest in the Luftwaffe in those days, it developed over time.

Hi,RG_Vortex;thx for your response. Sir,you may have misunderstood my last post...Dahl passed away in 1985 and Hrabak in 1995. I've always been aware of JG11 and run into them in the MA from time to time. It's been to my detriment at times and I always know it's them by the way they work together.
After flying with these guys in four official and one practice frame of BOG if I could tear myself away from my beloved Spitfires and become a (choke) Knight I wouldn't hesitate a moment to see if they'd have me in JG11.

Hi Stamp, I was speaking to Ghosth a few days ago and asked him if he knew of a squad that flies Luftwaffe exclusively. He pointed me in your direction. I would be interested in joining the JG11. Ghost wrote you a brief note using Skype which provided a review of my activities with the 332nd Dogs. I've been a member in good standing of the 332nd for about two year. I have three Ace's High accounts and plan to continue my association with the 332nd. The 332nd rarely fly German aircraft and I really enjoy my seat time in a FW190 D-9 this is the reason for my inquiry. My name with the 332nd is Wolfgang... I would be using either Werewolf or Wolfman if approved by your squad. You can contact me at chubtackle@msn.com I'm an old guy, born in June 6, 1939 (before Hitler invaded Poland) so I'm almost 72 years of age. I'm not a red-hot "stick" but occasionally get in some "licks with my trusty FW-190 Dora. I look forward to hearing from you. Best Regards, Wolfgang

I have had many game ID's (Thanks to my son) my current one is Huskey39. Typically I have only flown USAA aircraft but lately I have taken a liken to BF-109F and FW-190A8. I am looking for a squad that discipline, flies together and fights as a unit. I am not into the score thing and I have a high value for the Wing and it's integrity and responceablity to it. Your squad looks like a good operation and would love to hear more.

Hello Greg.
Thank you for your service. <S> Many vets currently in the 11th.
Thank you for your interest in JG11. Check out www.JG11.org for some more info. Though the site has not been updated for some time, the basics are outlined...like the fact that we stick to Luftwaffe/Italian planes only in the Late War Arena. Members may fly anything in the Mid and Early. We also draw non German planes when FSO takes us to the Pacific. Don't concern yourself with scores. In the 11th you will find some of the best guys in the game to fly with, all willing to take the time to help in any way needed. Teamwork, professionalism, integrity, and esprit de corps are the cornerstones of the unit.
FSO, Scenarios, and any other historically based operations are what we enjoy the most, and strive to honorably portray the men who flew in those desperate missions. If you have a real interest in the WWII airwar, particularly the Luftwaffe, you may find a great opportunity here. Squad night is on Tuesdays and we usually meet in the TA at around 8:30 PM est for some warm ups before moving to the Main, to conduct operations as a unit. Please tune vox 111 on the Knight side next time you are online, and begin winging up with the guys, to see if you and us are all interested in continuing along the path to membership.
<S>
See ya up.
Stampf.

I hope you have a fantastic turnout and your squad grows from all of this...
P effin S I love this game
Thanks. Anytime at all you wanna goggle up with us.
Actually the 11th only has room for a few new members, and we decided long ago we would always maintain only the single 32 man roster allowed for one AH 'squadron'. However,...this thread gets a lot of views, so I figured I'd use it to reach out to the Squads, that might wanna try something different.
We're just happy to see some sane, historical matchups, high alt intercept missions, and for the chance to fly and fight against like minded foemen in the Main Arena.
Tonight should see a more concentrated, coordinated and numerous Luftwaffe effort.

Christmas Eve - 2005,
I had only been in the game a few months, and was up in an FW190A-5 looking for action. I had recently joined my first squadron in AH - VF-15 - 'Satan's Playmates'. I could hear them on vox, fighting it out and having a blast doing so, but as was the usual case, I found myself miles from them...as they were launching bluebirds from carriers, and I was in my Luft crate as always. I started playing AH because I wanted to fly Luftwaffe, and found the 3 country non historical set up of the Main Arena game...surprising and honestly, disappointing as well.
Alone...and continuously being jumped and shot down I contemplated leaving the game altogether as I was unable to find the experience of what I was looking for. The guys in VF-15 were all good guys, and helpful as well, but being a Luft enthusiast and a noob, among skilled US Navy flyer's I couldn't shake feeling like an outcast.
Shot down again...launch again...
Glancing out the canopy I spotted a squadmate. The icon over his Bf109 read, 'Zud'. I chuckled to myself everytime I saw him, thinking of the little yellow can of cleaner my father always had on the workbench in the garage as I was growing up. In the few weeks I was in the squad I couldn't recall ever hearing Zud on vox, but it dawned on me that I had never seen him in anything other than one of Willie's finest. I wondered if perhaps he was feeling the same way I was and decided to take a chance and send him a PM, asking if he wouldn't mind meeting me over in the Training Arena for a couple minutes. He replied, "Sure".
I was nervous, as my mind raced on what I was thinking about. I had rolled my plane out of the hanger in the TA and was awaiting Zud to arrive. Presently I heard a 109 spin up, and out of the hanger taxied Zud. He rolled up to me, shut down, and transmitted, "So Stampf, whats up?" I wasn't sure where to begin, so I just let it all rip...explaining my feelings to him, and my dissatisfaction with the situation, and what I had in mind. As it turned out...He felt exactly the same way I did and explained that his only interest was the Luftwaffe, and flying his beloved Bf109.
I didn't even know how to form a squad, other than it took two players to do it...so I asked him if he would leave the 15th, and join an all German unit, if I created it. He agreed...and we talked long into the Christmas morning hours together. Finally I was excited about the game and decided that if I could not find the experience I was looking for, I would create it for myself, and try to find others looking for the same thing. And so the all Luftwafffe experience was born.
I could never imagine on that night, seven years ago, what would all come from that simple gamble and encounter with Zud, and never dreamed that our little experiment would turn out so wonderful for all involved. Finally the game had meaning to me, and I was determined to make this squad something special, and unique in the game.
From that night to this day, we still begin every squad night together in the TA, not only to group up and warm up, but to honor the very beginnings of the unit, and to remind myself why we started the squad, and what our goals were, the standards we would hold ourselves to, and the path we had chosen to accomplish those goals. As we begin out 7th year together, I can only marvel at how it all turned out, and be grateful for all the outstanding times I have had, and to the people that I have met both within and outside the unit. To me...I am the luckiest CO in the game, to have had such success, and to have been supported and joined by the best bunch of guys I have ever had the privilege to be a part of, in any on-line gaming experience.
So, to all of you in the 11th, and to all of you in the game, both friend and foemen, I thank you very much. May you have all happiness during this holiday season, and find only blue skies and good hunting in the coming years.
<S>

Thanks for the comments, Gentlemen.
Branch, BigRat... In the years I have been leading the 11th in FSO...I have seen big changes in the Jolly Rogers. I can usually tell which squadrons we are fighting shortly after the point of contact. In the past, the 17th was just another easily controlled fight that we could handle quickly and move on to the next. Now it is even more apparent when we face off against your boys, but for quite different reasons. It is obvious you gentlemen have taken it seriously and now it is much more challanging and most like what it must be like fighting us. You exhibit patience in the sky, diclipline in flight which equates to disclipline in the fight. You keep the fight up high, working together and working for the high ground. Fighting on your terms and working for inititive right from the merge. A true force to be reckoned with now, if there was a Most Improved Squadron Award for FSO, my vote would go to VF-17 without any doubt. Keep it up. It is very refreshing and encouraging to see from my point of view and makes for some excellent engagements.

JG-11 offers an immersing Luftwaffe experience in Main Arena flying as well as Scenarios and FSOs. Fans of Luftwaffe cannot find a better place to call home. This squad is equally deadly in both the 109 and 190 series. They regularly finish in the Top Axis Squad rating during FSOs. Even during Pacific Theater Setups when they fly Japanese aircraft they will finish number 1. They are a squad you can count on be it as a squad member, a special event planner, as axis partner, and even just as important as a adversary. Flying with them or against them brings out your own best efforts. Luftwaffe guys you cannot go wrong joining this squadron.

Member of the glorious 190 gruppe have come to an important decision.
We shall all meet up on either rook or knight depending on side numbers. Vox channel will be vox 209. Time will be 6pm eastern time.
Ill talk to badger/shores road about riling up the bish and let's see if we can meet up and rape them all
Basically I'm have the muppets, kn, and any other German fliers up with one another for some epic fun.
This will be me last AH fight in a long while so might as well go out in a bang. If your squad has any questions, have you CO and XO pm. Ill also let you guys know more as more details come up

The Party was a big success this year. The Great Pumpkin was last spotted making his escape in a P-38.
Bunch of closet Spit and Pony dweebs I have here.
I really enjoyed the P-47, and found it most like my beloved 190, but oddly lighter handling. Outrageous gunfire and dive abilities, and a most excellent ordinance delivery platform. I only lost one Jug and that was due to 5in. fire.
We made a mass B-29 raid as well which was a total hoot! My gunner scored a 262 kill while we RTB! A great time.
All scrubbed up and clean now...back to business.

Assigned a mixed inventory for frame 1, The Sonderstaffel would field (10) Fw190A-5's of 7./staffel and (11) Bf109f-4's of 8./staffel. Hard fought action would see the Gruppe take heavy losses of near 50%, but also realize the destruction of (26) enemy RAF aircraft. A special shout out for (RMRider), now 'BlkMaro' who shot down (7) enemy aircraft without loss on his first mission back from a multi year break. Outstanding performance to lead the day's Luftwaffe tallies.

Again fielding a mix of Fw's190's and Bf109's, the unit would destroy (23) aircraft of the USAAF while losing (4) men killed in action and (1) aircraft lost to friendly fire.

In a rare appearance on the Allied side of the struggle...the Sonder Black Hearts of JG11 prepare to launch and defend Allied airstrips on Guadalcanal Island. The Big Blue Blanket
III./JG11 finishing up the March operation - launches (72) B-25's in Frame 3 of FSO - 'Operation Cartwheel - A Time of Aces'. The mission would see the Gruppe rain destruction down on the hapless Japanese Navy, shooting down a half dozen of their fighters, sinking several Capital ships and leaving assorted escorts wrecked, burning, and/or dead in the water.
A special shout out to the 56thFG and the Air Raiders for providing an excellent cover of P-38's. The Sonder Black Hearts would return to base with only minimal losses and (3) men KIA.

5./JG11 pilot - Franz Zambelli.
I wanted to post this on the anniversary of Franz's death but missed by a few days...and as luck would have it...the delay allowed the posting of this picture that you will find no where else but here:
Young Franz Zambelli climbing out of a Arado 96 two seat training aircraft.
Franz was KIA: 3/15/44, while flying Heinz Knocke's wing on a mission against American P-47's. Shot through the chest he managed to land his Bf109 but was was dead by the time help arrived.
His great nephew is a current member of the AH JG11. Flying as 'Zambelli'. Next time you see him...say hello.
Another example of how this game transcends the virtual gaming experience and connects us to a time and place and to people...that should not be forgotten.

The Sonder Black Hearts of III./JG11 return to the hanger after frame 3 of this months FSO - 'The Battle of Voronezh'.
The mission would see the unit destroy 38 Allied aircraft for the loss of 2 men KIA, in a successful defence of German Panzer bases along the Voronezh front.
The funny aside... and just in case you are not certain as to the terms...
Scott...the acronym 'JG' - short for Jagdgeschwader, or roughly Hunter Group... is similar to a US fighter wing. A JG was typically made up of 3 or 4 Gruppen or fighter groups - ie: I./JG11 II./JG11 III./JG11 - each with 3 to 4 staffeln or squadrons ie: 1./JG11 2./JG11 3./JG11 of I./JG11. 4./JG11 5./JG11 6./JG11 of II./JG11 etc...etc... So as with other airforces - there were many 'JG' 's during the war, and while they operated as independent groups, joint ops were common as well, particularly toward the end of the war.

The 'Sonder Black Hearts' of III. Gruppe - Jagdgeschwader 11, prepare to defend Western European cities from the relentless Allied bombing campaign in Frame 2 of this month's FSO - 'The Daily Grind,1943'. (7/18/14).
After picking up our (6) pilots whom either safely bailed out over friendly territory, or safely ditched their aircraft, all but (5) of our pilots returned to base on this day full of hard fought action.
The III. Gruppe of Jagdgeschwader 11 accounted for the following Allied losses over Belgium and the Channel Coast:
(21) four engine heavy bombers (2) twin engine recon/fighters (1) single engine escort/fighter

I agree regarding JG11's website, very, very sharp, I appreciate the work put into making it so. I like a clean site like that, especially when it still has some pizazz as well. Fantastic work, it's what I would try and emulate if I was making such a site, if that means anything at all.

Frame 2 of this month's FSO - 'Dragonslayers' would see the III. Gruppe JG 11 field (9) N1K2's and (8) Ki-61's in defense of the Home Islands. Hard fought action over Nagoya resulted in the Sonder Black Hearts destroying the following elements of the allied raiding force:
(16) B-29 Super Fortress's ! (5) P-47's (1) F4u
- for the loss of (2) pilots KIA.

Yes it was. I for one am very glad to see AoM regularly again on Friday Nights. While not as close to the Muppet's as I used to be...due mainly to a lot of the old gang hanging up the goggles...you guys still exhibit the one trait that is most important to me and what makes for a fun mission together, and that is the simple Spirit of the Hunt. Nothing else matters but the mission and finding the red guys and sending them off to bed. In front, behind, above, or below...it does not matter. Find them, fight them, destroy them...without concern for numbers or a/c type.
Spirit...I am a firm believer - is the ultimate equalizer in any fight. Go into it believing and knowing you will win...and you likely will. My guys hear it from me all the time like a broken record - 'Take the initiative, own the action, fight it from a perspective of knowing you will prevail before ever entering the mosh, and likely you will.' I've never had the best pilots in the game, but they make up for that through the approach mentioned above. Makes each victory all the more sweet.
See you up, and give my regards to the rest of the plush toys.

In other JG 11 news:
Both Herr 'Bino' and Herr 'Morfiend' have reached the '200 FSO Sorties' milestone with JG 11. That's a lot of Friday Nights, and 400 sorties of experience in just two pilots. And in Morf's case, not only has he flown 200 missions since joining the unit, he has flown 200 in a row without missing a single Friday Night!
As we prepare for this month's final frame this evening join in with me on congratulating these two fine Gentlemen on achieving this most outstanding mark of both dedication, and commitment.

JG11, I was thinking about hosting a SAPP night and you are my very favorite aggressor squadron in Aces High. My first thought would be to use the scenario rooms if a CM wants to volunteer time (we have CMs on both sides), private rooms are the next choice, and the MA is the last resort.
What do you gents say? We SAPP drivers are pretty clueless, so at the very least you get to practice some gunnery. ;)

This time of year again:
Quote
<S>
As we goggle up for the final JG 11 Squad Night of the year and complete our 11th year together doing the all Luftwaffe gig - all the boys in the 11th want to wish everyone and their families a safe and Happy Holiday Season and an Outstanding New Year!

JG/11 is looking for a few pilots that like flying Luftwaffe aircraft, like working in a team, and just overall good people. We fly FSO and would like pilots that can commit to flying Friday Night Squad Operations with us to fill out our ranks. We get together in the MA on Tuesday evenings, so drop one of us a PM and we will get you set up.
Thanks

This time of year always gets me in the mood to goggle up...
<S>
Happy Holidays to all my old mates...miss you all! <S>

As always Late to the Party I also flew Allied rides for year and did not find my grove. I was like a kid in the Candy store when the Co of the JG11 accepted me to learn the irons and dam I got say I became a good attack fighter and luft bomber pilot. I can still remember the days that Zud and I would lift off in 110s to find enemy buffs or just cause havic on gvs or a town but either Zud or I always Had Vilkas in our plane and he was comical and serious at the same time during our flights

Soo.. a little catchup gang. Last Aug / Sept I finally got all my gear together and was raring to go. Then life happened. Mom (80) had a lung cancer scare so we dealt with that for a few months. Still drive her to the doc once a month for post treatment checkups, add in she's got macular degeneration in both eyes and is essentially blind and pretty much every week I have to take on more and more around the house. She loves her plants so I did the whole garden from seed in my old MJ tents and got it going until the hail beat the hell out of it and I had to start over. Dad (85) is pretty much demented. It varies as to how bad day to day but it really is like living with a 350 lb spoiled 5 year old. Taking his car keys away was a whole lot of fun but he was a danger to himself and everybody on the road. I moved in with them 5 years ago to be here in their later years because I will be damned if I let them go to a nursing home to live out their final days. If that means putting some stuff I want to do on hold then so be it. They were there for me more times than I can count and I'm honored and privileged to be here for them. But it do take a toll on free time. About two months ago I got all the legal BS handled (power of attorney, will rewrite, competency tests, and so on) so now I'm in total control of their finances etc. (just an aside when I went through the finances I cut $800 of roadkill spending out of their monthly auto bills. 'You're paying $230 for directv and you never watch tv? WHAT? $150 a month to scam charities. Needless to say those went bye bye along with a bunch of other BS spending. Grocery bill per week is how much? Ya no. You throw out half of it anyway. Soo... I've been a little busy. Add in new job (WFH and I'm killing at it to the point I got a 30% raise two weeks ago.. ya I'm just that good at inside sales) so I've been a hair tied up.
But anyhoo a couple of weeks ago I had a Saturday where I had a clear schedule and fired everything up and had a blast offline (VR on Oculus is the bomb by the way) BUT.. I had trouble with my mapping and, screwing around, I totally hosed the program. So it's back to square 1. I tried jumping in with both feet and screwed things up so this round I'm going to get all my stuff together in 2d and 'fly' offline until everything is natural again. THEN transfer the files over to my VR and go from there.
Good news though. That simulator sickness that knocked me out of the game back in the day? Not a single sign of it in 2d or VR so far thank God. So figure 3 or 4 weeks and I'll be knocking on the door for some FSO fly a longs then get back in the game full speed.
One question though. I've got a full on leather bomber jacket coming soon and I really want a JG11 patch on the right shoulder. I was thinking of getting an embroidered one made and hand stitched on by a lady I know who is awesome and I don't even mind paying to have it made etc. I was thinking the red and black Griffon one or is there a better one to go with.
JG11 was and hopefully will be my home again soon and when winter hits I want to rep the gang. 'What's that patch mean?' 'Me and my friends hunt people at night.. you hunt stupid animals' Always a line I love.

Morning all. After 6 or 7 years as CO of this great Squad it is time for me to step down and let someone else lead us. He's been around since day one when Stampf was our first CO "Kommandeur " and a hard squad mate to replace, I hope that I've kept JG11 growing and now that he will be our only 3rd Kommandeur of our 19 years in Aces High .Our squad will still be active in FSO "axis ", Scenarios, MA and Monday Night Madness. Hiya Ron! Well...Top pilot...Top squad...and his first win as a CiC. Now if he stays humble and always gives all the credit to the men...he'll be unbeatable...and the legend of the 11th goes on!
Really good to see you man...lots and lots of great memories...especially those late frame ones...the two of us alone wayyyy back behind the lines...lol...so many great ones...and some not so great ones...but you have to expect that - I mean over the decade (and now 2) alot of watermelon went on...and still...the best gaming experience of my long varied gaming life. What we did was more...just more... Think about you guys all the time and all the ole gang... Happy Holiday season to you and yours and all the guys! Keep Rider on track and he'll find the reds...

Mmmm. Would take a diamond tipped jack hammer to break through my rust. The ole gang is gone...well almost all of them. My time has past. You enjoy your time. Remember as a CO your first and most important action is getting your boys into the fight...with an advantage if possible but either way...everything else is secondary...when in doubt use the old ways...the hell with the sheds...make it up in scalps. Forgive my intrusion gentlemen, but Stampf your comment about breaking through your rust, reminds me of a scene in Forest Gump. The one where he is in his leg braces, and the punk kids are throwing rocks at him, then as he hobbles away, he breaks out of the braces and literally runs off from the boys. That is what would happen to your rust. :salute

:salute
Jimmy,
The old man rarely checks these boards but next time I see him I'll let him know you responded to his post.
:salute
