the drummer in this video mesmerizing. Really. Watch and simply pay attention to the drummer. He's part creepy, part zombie, obviously VERY high, and almost disturbing to look at.

That is kinda funny/creepy looking.

Ginger Baker.
Was quite a sensation in the UK.
Buddy Rich was touring England where he was always popular when he was subjected to the suggestion that Ginger Baker was the "Buddy Rich of Rock and Roll".
Of course, it would be beneath his dignity to compare himself to a rock and roll drummer so he picked Gene Krupa as the benchmark saying something like "Krupa showed more creativity in Sing, Sing, Sing than Baker in his whole career." If you didn't want Buddy Rich's opinion, you'd better not ask.
I share the Brits admiration of Rich, but not Baker, and this clip is as good as any for showing why.
HONK!

Ok, that guy Buddy Rich is absolutely f&*(^ing ridiculous on the drums! I don't have the faintest idea who he is or was, but holy *****! I've never seen anything like it. While a HUGE fan of the guitar, I've always maintained that the real nuts and bolts of a great band is the drummer. It also has to be the most difficult instrument to play well, but I wouldn't know since I can barely play my guitar =)
A band I have liked for a very long time, moe. , has an amzing drummer named Vinnie Amico. He's really something else to watch. The band consists of some serious talent technically and he really gets down. Go to
http://www.moe.org
and check them out. I can't even begin to describe their music because they are constantly evolving and doing amazing things. The one thing I can say is they are definitely a jam band, with some songs going on for 20 minutes. I've seen them play live set segues of several songs melting into the next and lasting nearly an hour. Nonstop. It's mind blowing.

Lute,
Nice link. Watching it made me think that he was the number one drummer for six decades. His solos were pure alpha male. He would not and could not let the light shine on someone else. He backed up his arrogance with his playing.
When Louis Bellson started playing with two bass drums, Buddy thought it was a silly gimmick. More importantly, he did not want Bellson to get too much attention. So, during a show, he moved to a seat behind two bass drums. Only the two bass drums. When he was finished, the audience stood. And Buddy had served notice that he was still the king.

Ginger Baker......awesome drummer.
Buddy rich is always mentioned in "Greatest Drummer" scenarios. Max Roach was more groundbreaking and better skilled.

Mac- blow it up your hole. Just because I didn't know who someone was, doesn't make me generally ignorant, nor give you the right to throw sophomoric gameboy jokes- albeit funny ones. For the record, I just barely missed the 60's.
Oh- and we nerds dont play gameboys anymore.
