(messing around with Falcon 4 AF)
Any of you guys play it ? I do from time to time - loads of fun !

I have it, but I rarely play it, mainly for two reasons, the visuals, way worse than in AH or IL2 (same as in Lock on) and the weight of the manual... I love the accuracy and the work they put in recreating the F-16 avionics, but it's too much, you have to study all thoroughly to enjoy the "game".
Nice video, however, and nice choice of song, I love Joe. ;)

Yeah there's a significant learning curve just to get off the ground... You sorta have to "find" what you really need to know to get started, then just go with it.
One comment: I've found that the AH community doesn''t really seem to realize what "good sticks" they really are - I've noticed, time and time again, when one of our guys - even a mediocre guy - goes to another online flight sim - be it IL-2, Falcon, Warbirds - whatever, I find we always seriously dominate everyone we come across (we beat people at their own game) - but you come back home, and you're just one the regular guys.
With Falcon (online), I find I can kill pretty much anyone out there - they seem to be really good with avionics and missiles, but I seem to always just get in close, go to the gun, and school everyone.
Makes me think that if AH ever folds, there will be this great "Mongol Horde" that will descend on all the other online flight sims out there.

Just think about how many of us take seriously the task of learning air to air combat! :) Most of us will simply go online and fly (and die) a lot, others will have a trainer, other (more fanatical personalities, like me :D) will read everything they can find around about that (finally I have the Bible.. Shaw's book :D). And, then, we're used to fly against hundreds of players, in the boxed games, you usually have only tens of them.
Yep, I guess the average AH fighter pilot has a better knowledge of A2A combat and is a better stick than players of other games. :)

Smoke what? Lock On: Modern Air Combat has easily the best graphics of any aerial combat simulator on the market today.
I was terribly unimpressed with Falcon's flight model. I don't care how good the avionics are, it's the flight model that's at the heart of a flying simulator. I know that the real F-16 has a full-authority fly-by-wire flight computer with an absolute angle-of-attack limiter, but the flight model was lacking in a lot more ways than just stalls. Plus, I greatly suspect that even if you were able to turn off the angle of attack limiter in game (which can be done in the real F-16 for a short time), there still wouldn't be any accelerated stalls. In short, Falcon's flight model was totally arcade.

The song was the best part of the vid. It looked like Zaxxon or something. I expected alot more from it.

Since when "visuals" mean graphic? I was talking about the view system, that is not easy to control with a hat switch and works at its best with head tracking devices....

The Falcon flight model is pretty good... of course it matters what Falcon you tried, since 4.0 was heavily bugged when came out and, in the following years, many mods were released.... we were talking about the last incarnation of the franchise, and it's flight model is pretty accurate... I'm afraid you can't compare a fly-by-wire jet with a WWII prop plane, they fly in different ways....
