Title: TEMP Wings Snapping Off after 2.11 install
Post by: Tigeress on August 31, 2007, 06:34:46 AM
After installing 2.11 I took out a TEMP and merged with a bandit, started a hard G (but not black-out level) Emmelmann and promptly lost both wings.

Thinking that perhaps the P51 I merged with had snap HO'ed and shot them off I did it again... same result... both wings snapped off.

I have been flying a TEMP for quite a while and no matter how hard I previously flew it, the TEMP never exhibited, to me, G-force/wing loading related parts falling off prior to 2.11.

Was there an intended change made to the FM for the TEMP in 2.11 or am I just flying harder? ...airspeed was about 430 or so and pulled up hard (near black-out) at the merge after a pre-merge long shallow dive to about 2K alt from about 6K alt when the bandit's icon turned on at 5500D.

BTW, for those of you surprised a woman is into such esoteric things as flight modeling, I am an engineer by profession, although not aeronautical. I have attended two aviation ground schools and have actual cockpit time and know the difference between a thrust vector and a lift vector and a drag vector and know about wing loading and God's E and VNE, lol.

Just don't talk about density altitude :rofl , I had a little trouble getting my head wrapped around that one.

The coolest plane I have ever flown was an ultralight two seater (side-by-side) although flying a glider was the most gratifying. Landing the ultralight having a stall speed of about 20mph on a field with tall grass whipping the airframe prior to wheels touching down was an exciting experience.

I also have logged two parachute jumps.

EDIT: It also happens in 2.111

Welcome aboard.  Check out the 113th Lucky Strikes if you are looking to fly with a squad.  You can check the readme file that is provided with the download it's in one of the HTC folders on your :C drive for information about the patch.

Also on this BBS up top there is the News board that provides information about the patch.  I don't remember anything about a change to the Temp model.

But if that's true, it's good to know.

I consider myself an awesome tempest pilot  and I will test this for you Tigeress.

I have only done what you describe once in the MA before the latest patch and was pretty shocked at the time.

The facts are that any plane will shred its wings if you pull too tight, too quickly at speed.

Hi Traveler    Nice to meet you.

I read the release notes for 2.11 when I installed it and there was no mention of altering the FM of the TEMP. I just re-read it again to verify that to be the case.

Thanks for the heads-up on your squad.

I made a quick visit to the 113Th Lucky Strikes' website and was heartened to see a real maturity level and also the emphasis placed on teamwork.

I am a serious promoter of teamwork and sportsmanship in Aces High and in real life. If you like, feel free to PM me concerning your squad; I would be interested in talking with you further about it.

Thanks again,

TIGERESS

Hi Bruv Nice to meet you too.

Yes, pull enough Gs and any plane may shed it's wings. In this case the G load was < 5G.

I love the TEMP and fly it often but also fly other A/C depending on the mission. It could be I was asking the TEMP to exceed a wing load I had never subjected it to before but the fact that it happened just after installing 2.11 was a red flag.

She had a 1/4 tank of fuel and internal ord only; nothing on the wing points.

Thanks for testing it; looking forward to seeing your test results.

Any change that puts a stop to the mach speed thrust-vectoring Tempest insta-turns is a welcome one IMO. :p

Lol, ahhh... a bandit who has been on the wrong end of a thrust vectoring TEMP before! :rofl  sooo sir, what do you customarily fly??

And yes... having the wings fall off puts a damper on performance. lol

I also like driving a Hurricane Mk. II-C for those authoritative, slow, up close, and personal encounters :rofl :p

FYI, Bruv if you haven't checked this particular site before you might possibly be interested in this:
